Pretty much everybody will agree that Maisel’s three supporting actresses are locks to be nominated. Meanwhile in the male side of the show’s supporting players, everyone knows Tony Shalhoub is getting back in as well, but there’s no clear consensus about the other three supporting men who have been submitted. I wanted to see if I could get a clearer idea of this by having people say who they’d vote for first.
Personally, I’d go with Michael Zegen. Originally, I’d have said Leroy McClain, but after thinking about, I’d rather see Zegen get his due, as I’m really impressed with how he’s played the redemption of his character. Despite his initial faults (which aren’t entirely gone), I couldn’t help finding him endearing and lovable this past year. Also, since it’s a comedy series, Zegen’s role is more overtly comedic than McClain and Brown, so that’s an extra boost.
But I will say, I’d be ecstatic to see McClain make the cut, as he’s so effortless charming, and he really breaks your heart in his big episode. I’ve said before about Brown, he’d be a good guest nominee, but not a supporting one.
I also thought there’s not much point to make a “who would you vote for” between the women because everyone would end up picking Borstein. Including Shalhoub in this poll would’ve yielded the same results.

There’s always the option of just not voting in that regard.

Yeah but then you don’t get to see the poll result

Pollak’s great, but I didn’t include him because he’s not being submitted, and as far as I know, he’s not submitting himself.

Aww, that’s what I was afraid of. He deserves to be pushed by the show much more than Brown.
I went with Zegen by just a little bit. I think the fact that he’s been on the show for 3 seasons now and you can see the progression of his character really helps. Plus, his scenes with Stephanie Hsu were wonderful.
McClain was very good but they didn’t give Shy Baldwin as many great scenes, but when they did, he was excellent.

He is in the prediction center so I assume he is being submitted.
ReplyCopy URLA Negroni. Sbagliato. With Prosecco in it.

He is in the prediction center, but that came out before Amazon’s official submissions, which did not include Pollak.

If there is a “none” option though, there should also be a “multiple” one, so I think that you are suggesting a poll with an altogether different objective. I am also not voting though because I have not seen the season yet, so I would not mind if someone wanted to summarize the results so far.
ReplyCopy URLMay 29, 2020 at 8:14 am #1203507266Well, I originally thought Gold Derby would go for McClain, but Zegen won this quite handily with more than 60% of the votes.
Since I believe the combination of the empty category and actors’ love for Maisel with result in at least one extra supporting actor making the cut, this poll has made me much more sure of Zegen’s chances, and simultaneously made me feel that taking Brown out of my predictions was the right choice, given his measly three votes.
