From what I’ve observed these shows and Apple TV+ were hyped a lot and were seen as big awards players prior to their debuts but didn’t quite live up to those expectations. I’m curious which show dissapointed you the most.

I feel every other thing had some doubts about their quality beforehand except Run which was at least expected to be good. So many people were predicting it in the beginning, even in the top three but then it just tanked in ratings, reviews, audience reception and most likely the coming award season as well.

The Vinyl of HBO “comedy” shows.

Voted for Apple TV+. I’m sure many here who follow tv closely have watched their shows and maybe enjoyed some, but the general public at large are not watching their programming. Rather, not watching their programming enough to justify the $1 billion-ballooning-to-$6 billion dollar price tag commitment for their original content. Reports of $15 million per ep. for shows like TMS and See are apparently well above where other ‘prestige’ shows like The Crown are at. A Spike Jonze directed Beastie Boys doc premiering to a whimper. Add on top of that a whole host of other problems (branding, lack of licensed content, etc.) being contributors to their dismal performance. We shall see how they perform at the Emmys since they’re throwing a lot of money into their campaign (which if the Democratic primary race has shown us anything, billionaires throwing money into their campaigns doesn’t buy votes). We’re talking about a streaming provider touted as the next coming of Netflix compared to singular shows, hence why it was an easy decision for me to make.

I keep reading articles laughing about the flopping of the big flop of the season and it is not a poll option.

Run, for me, because I was so ready for Wever to have her big lead showcase in her own HBO show, but it just wasn’t good lol (even though she was).

I half expected Space Force to be messy, and after the first trailer, I lowered my expectations. I still haven’t even watched it and I don’t plan on it unless there’s a season 2 and it’s a giant improvement.

I think we should cut some slack to Apple TV+. It would have been great if they jumped out of the gate with an abundance of quality content, but I also think that would have been wishful thinking. I’m still one of TMS’s bigger fans so at least it gave us that. Plus, they have some very interesting shows in the works, with great talent behind them.

The Politician and Hollywood I expected to be watchable/good at best so wasn’t surprised I didn’t like them and Avenue 5 was never something I was really anticipating.

Why did I think this thread was about the drama series contenders?💀

You’re right about Quibi, but I’ve never seen that hyped or talked in here so that’s why I didn’t include it.

Wouldnt this thread be more relevant after the noms. If Apple TV+ ends up getting multiple noms it would be quite idiotic to see it winning this.

I didn’t watch through all of these shows, so I can’t say. But for me, the most disappointing thing I watched this year was Westworld. During the season I kept going back and forth on whether or not I hated it, but now that the dust has settled, I’m pretty sure I did.

And they just won a Peabody, some other awards for their shows and the audience reception has been fairly good for most of their content as well. It also feels somewhat weird to compare a streaming service with shows.

I think what the user who created this thread probably intended to talk about in terms of flopping was the quality of the shows and the hype of the quality of the shows rather than the awards chances.

But space force is an audience hit so it’s invalid too

Why I think Apple TV+ is a flop is that, before the release it was marketed as the new HBO considering the talent involved. Even though people like the shows they lack the prestige and the passion of the critics. The Morning Show is a good show but it’s no where near the first seasons of The Crown, The Handmaid’s Tale, Westworld, and Succession etc… and its absence at PGA, DGA and WGA proves that. IMO the only show on Apple that should be considered prestige and artistic is Servant. I know most people on this forum like Defending Jacob, but I’m 100% certain sure that if they had to rank it with other mystery shows like BLL S1, Sharp Objects, True Detective or The Night Of, it would be at the bottom of the list.

It has a very low MC score and will probably recieve zero major noms so yeah it’s a flop.

Am I the only person who absolutely loves Quibi’s mandate? Less than 10 minute bursts of high quality Hollywood content for when you’re on the go?

Once the pandemic is over and businesses, public transport, workplace runnings etc are all back up, we are going to find ourselves waiting in queues for a lot longer than we’re used to. I’d be the first to watch a quick episode of something while I wait.

I’ve watched Most Dangerous Game, The Stranger, When the Streetlights Go On and Fierce Queens (not my go to show but Reese presents it). Very recognisable stars, cool ideas, great production values and an easy homepage to navigate.

I think it’s debut has been massively stifled by covid. I had no idea half of the shows existed till last week. I think it would be in Quibi’s best interest to make the entire service free for 6 months to everyone. Roll out as much content as possible and make it hard for people to leave. I also was confused why Apple didn’t make their streaming service free for at least a year. Money isn’t an issue for them and they have the visibility to make it impossible to ignore their product.

Anyway…Quibi is being unfairly trashed. I’m excited to see their full slate of programming and hope this format of storytelling gets to continue.
