It’s so hard to say as you really need to go back in time for that moment but I think Friends would have gotten more acting nominations if not wins.

Considering Drew won every single award they were nominated for together, except for the Emmys, which used different voting system.
Kevin Spacey in 2013 instead of Jeff Daniels?
And I think Julianna Margulies probably wins for season 1 of The Good Wife, I feel like Sedgwick’s victory is mostly attributed to the tape system.

No.

ReplyCopy URLJune 6, 2022 at 10:19 am #1204974167I think Julianna Margulies definitely would’ve won for season 1 of The Good Wife over Kyra Sedgwick.
ReplyCopy URLJune 6, 2022 at 10:26 am #1204974180I think the first example that really comes to mind whenever this question comes up on these forums for me is Jon Hamm with the first season of Mad Men. Those early seasons of the show (and in particular the first one) had Succession levels of success back then and with him having already won the Globe for the show, the show being the eventual drama series winner that year and the second season of Mad Men (one in which Hamm arguably had “baitier” material to chew with than in the first) airing in the Summer of that year he just feels like someone who would have done very well under a popular voting system that is built on momentum.

June 6, 2022 at 10:30 am #1204974183I actually think Kerry Washington would’ve won in 2014 tbh.

Agreed. She got a SAG nomination that year (something neither Margulies nor Wright did) and in spite of Scandal being an awards vehicle largely centred around her performance the show managed to get other acting nominations (for Kate Burton and Joe Morton) so there does seem to have been quite a bit of love towards it within the branch. The show was quite popular at the time overall.

Agreed. She was still a fresh enough contender, very traditionally baity in an extremely popular show around its peak (even the Peabodys awarded it that year). Also, the only nominee that was coming off of SAG and Globe noms..
Claire Underwood has become a go-to example for the type of female characters the voters don’t respond to so hard for me to take Wright seriously as a potential winner.
ReplyCopy URLA Negroni. Sbagliato. With Prosecco in it.
June 6, 2022 at 11:47 am #1204974268Jon Hamm would have won his Emmy for “Mad Men” far sooner than when he did, and maybe won multiple times. Steve Carell would also be an Emmy winner for “The Office” at least once over Jim Parsons for “The Big Bang Theory.”
