Tramel Tillman – ditto
Greta Lee – TMS and Russian Doll
Sarah Sherman – standout SNL freshman
James Austin Johnson – Opened the SNL season in the first cold open of the year in his very first episode
Please Don’t Destroy guys – they’re awesome
Oscar Isaac – he became a bona fide star this year with Moon Knight, Dune, Scenes from a Marriage and The Card Counter, hosting SNL and being damn charming (my prediction for Sexiest Man Alive this year), he’s the man of the hour.

And Adam Scott, Oscar Isaac are not breakout stars. They are people who have been around for a long time.

Thanks Officer.
Breakout means different things. Breaking into the mainstream is exactly what Oscar Isaac did. Beforehand he was known in small circles for 1 movie. Just because you had heard of him doesn’t mean anything.
Also, mind your own business. You’re not the king of gold Derby.

April 30, 2022 at 3:08 pm #1204938288Everybody from Station Eleven, but I’m going with Danielle Deadwyler. Her performance is basically a snowball effect, showing up at first as a silent, tough and introvert woman who tries hard to not get affected by whatever the outside throws at her, but then she goes deep down on her emotions throughout the third episode until THAT moment in the presentation where her character just has a complete breakdown. Miranda also wrote the graphic novel that drives the narative so the show is basically all about her. Should be winning every award.

He was literally one of the main characters of the most recent Star Wars trilogy. Ex Machina, Inside Llewyn Davis, A Most Violent Year, Annihilation, Drive. Not a breakout star.

because that’s clearly Sag winner Jung Ho-yeon with her 24 million followers.
ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2022 at 3:31 pm #1204938308Minha Kim. She shines in every second of Pachinko and gave one of the best performances of the year.
ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2022 at 3:43 pm #1204938319Adam Scott broke out from the perception of being a fairly recognizable comedy actor to being a legitimate awards contender in drama. I would have said the same about Bryan Cranston when he went to Breaking Bad.

Her breakout as an actor is even more impressive considering this was her first professional acting job after a few years in reality tv and modelling.
Vogue’s YouTube channel even re-edited the title of a 6 year old makeup tutorial with her to include “Squid Game star” because they know how much public interest there was around her.

Going from Buzzfeed staff writer to ABLSS featured player to now the creative force behind thee breakout comedy of the year (and on a broadcast network no less).

I would say Margaret Qualley has been THE breakout star of this Emmy season. She was previously nominated for Fosse/Verdon but it is this project that really allowed her to showcase her range and become a bona fide leading lady, and took Maid to record viewership numbers. The project gave Qualley her first Critics Choice and SAG Nominations. What she does with the role and how she shows us all sides of her character Alex was truly spectacular.
