ReplyApril 11, 2022 at 8:13 am #1204912431In terms of solid and reliable if not groundbreaking:
Kenan did the People’s Choice and I thought he was a really solid host. We may not cover them but that’s not a small event so having that practice is great.
I have never seen the Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dog show, but I think Kelly’s relatively informed on TV and TV culture on her talk show – I frequently find her to be the most engaged host on a press circuit so I think that works too. (I don’t know what the “broad opinion” is of Snoop, but I find him more of a small-doses guy).
(maybe just put Kenan and Kelly together)
I also think neither of them is particularly prone to saying dumb shit that becomes the story.
April 11, 2022 at 8:48 am #1204912454Maybe not this year because The White Lotus would be a “conflict of interest” or whatever but Natasha Rothwell was the first name to come to mind.
Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally would be a great duo.

Non-NBC: Natasia and Jamie Demetriou (which would be far more likely for BAFTA)

April 11, 2022 at 11:16 am #1204912616Given that it is on NBC almost certainly going to be someone from their network, there are not a lot a great choices (and their sister networks don’t have options either). Probably going to be someones from SNL (Kenan best bet), Kelley Clarkson or one of the late night guys. Of them, Kelley would be my pick as she’d genuinely look thrilled to be hosting but her style would probably just be fangirling the whole time.
ReplyCopy URLApril 11, 2022 at 10:42 pm #1204913834Kelly Clarkson is such a no brainier.
She’s already reliably hosted the BBMAs for NBC since 2017; has two current hits for them (her talk show and The Voice), is a classic variety perfoming showman for the inevitable skits they’ll do; cross-demo appeal (nobody dislikes her) and knows television and pop culture.
Kenan is the only current solo SNL player I could see being a good choice.
Miley Cyrus and Pete Davidson did well enough with their NYE special, I wouldn’t be opposed if they did it together again.
Amber Ruffin would be fantastic as well, and they did have Jost/Che last time so they aren’t that opposed to newer choices.
If they desperately want another late night show, go for Meyers. Not Fallon.
My absolute dream choice is the four members of girls5eva. Bareilles was great hosting the Tonys: Pell & Goldsberry have live audience experience and Phillips was excellent in her cancelled-too-soon talk show.
If NBC really want to get tongues moving, the producer behind Peacock’s biggest hit is right there if they want him.

I actually disagree, I think some of these choices are much better than other networks. I’ve already said it about something else on here today but I don’t think you need to reinvent the wheel, people that have already hosted awards and can think on their feet (Kelly, Kenan, Sara Bareilles I’d forgotten but is a great choice) are entirely solid choices.
