I am now convinced that there’s an undeniable buzz and passion for Shira Haas which will result in a nomination. Obviously Cate Blanchett, Regina King and Merritt Wever are locked. Unbelievable is locked for series, therefore I think it will carry Kaitlyn Dever as well. Little Fires Everywhere stars Washington and Witherspoon may break in as well but Haas prevents one of them to join. You could say both may be snubbed but I don’t know who would be the alternative or maybe Haas does not make the cut at all.

That said, if Haas really gets in, it’d probably be at Washington’s expense.

Also I am not seeing any of this buzz for Haas as undeniable (although admittedly I am in the UK at the mo so that could be why). From what I’ve seen people like Unorthodox a lot but no one seems to be gagging for it to get recognised across the board. It could happen but to suggest it’s a sure thing is a stretch.
In fact, if I had to bet right now on a spoiler I’d bet on Daisy Edgar Jones.

I think Dever gave a better performance than Washington, but Unbelievable released so long ago I could somehow see her missing. But for now I am sticking with taking out Washington, and while Haas might be wishful thinking I would really love for that to happen so I will keep her in.
ReplyCopy URLMay 14, 2020 at 6:17 am #1203480942Neither. Both are producers and are equal co-leads. I say they both make it in and Haas doesn’t make the cut.
ReplyCopy URLMay 14, 2020 at 6:21 am #1203480948Neither. Not only they are both co leads, co producers and multiple emmy nominees but their names are incredibly close to each other on the ballot, literally on the same page most likely. I think it’s way more probable that they both end up getting snubbed rather than one of them missing.
ReplyCopy URLMay 14, 2020 at 6:24 am #1203480955I hope I can say this without the Shira Haas and Unorthodox fans coming at me: I was shocked to find out yesterday that Unorthodox premiered way back in March – the end of March, to be exact. Yet I hadn’t heard of it until about a week ago. Maybe I just wasn’t paying attention, but considering how obsessed I am with awards, I can’t imagine that being the case. I don’t see anyone talking about other than people here in these forums. Its 8.1 IMDb rating with 33k voters is very good, yet its highest rated individual episode is just 8.4 (still not bad, and frankly, it doesn’t matter all that much). Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon are two very well-respected actors who are giving two very showy performances in a show that could sneak into limited series. Kaitlyn Dever stars in one of the top 3 limited series, gives a showy, heartrending performance and has been working in the industry for over a decade now. She isn’t some complete unknown. Hence, I don’t see how Haas gets in.
ReplyCopy URLMay 14, 2020 at 6:33 am #1203480969It might be a very unpopular opinion but I found Regina King’s performance in Watchmen to be weakest among the top 7 contenders. If I were a voter I wouldn’t vote for her.

It’s called word-of-mouth.

(Honestly, this.)

That you think Daisy Edgar-Jones is more of a viable spoiler is also because you’re currently in the UK. It’s pretty obvious to me that if someone was to break into the category, it would be Haas (although I personally prefer the performances of Edgar-Jones and especially Kazan).
