Neither of them are missing. The consensus 6 are practically locked with a maybe from Shira Haas (and if any of the 6 were to miss, it’d be Dever). Hang it up.

Honestly, I don’t even think she’ll be nominated at all for Best Actress. Colman, Linney, and Aniston are locks. Comer won last year, so she is also very safe. Moss, Kidman, Davis, Oh, and Wood were all nominated the last time they were eligible, so they will probably round out the field. I don’t see a near-future in which Witherspoon receives two Drama Actress bids.
No, I’m just playing. All wishful thinking on my part. I think she deserves it though, she’s an incredible actor and if someone were to achieve dual nominations for the first time in that category, it should be her.
That said, she has two costars who are pretty safe guarantees. Voters checking off Kidman and Aniston likely won’t think twice about checking off Witherspoon too.

Witherspoon’s character actually changed while Washington’s stayed the same pretty much all season long. That might be more of an issue with the script than with Washington’s work, but it’s what tipped the scale for me. If I were a voter, I’d easily check off both though. I wonder if Washington siphons votes from herself for “American Son,” given how much she’s been promoting that as of late. If she misses altogether, those optics will not be pretty.

ReplyCopy URLJune 10, 2020 at 1:17 am #1203524985That said, she is a four-time Emmy nominee. She’s been nominated three times for acting, so it’s not like they have completely overlooked her. Scandal’s “Run” should have earned her an additional nom, but Viola became the priority then. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Kerry because she was just so great in Little Fires.

This in itself, whilst completely true, annoys me still to this day because there was absolutely no reason three black actresses couldn’t have been nominated at the same time but Henson and Davis’ presence was almost definitely the factor that kept Washington‘s series work from recognition. If not for the current BLM surge, I could have seen Washington missing under similar circumstances with voters this year feeling that they didn’t need to check her off because they were already recognising a black character facing discrimination with Regina King.
ReplyCopy URLJune 10, 2020 at 3:49 am #1203525061What I meant with Davis becoming the priority was rather in regards to Shondaland. Recognizing two actresses from Shondaland might have been too much for them – which accentuates a big problem with the TV academy IMO. They punish soapy/melodramatic shows for being what they are. I think that’s rather the problem.
ReplyCopy URLJune 10, 2020 at 5:10 am #1203525114Oh I agree with that as well but sadly I do also think there was a race issue as well
ReplyCopy URLJune 10, 2020 at 5:28 am #1203525132You’re right. And it’s so frustrating that it’s difficult to believe. Imagine not voting for someone because of the color of their skin… Ugh.

I felt Washington was overacting to the point of it being distracting at times. I wouldn’t be upset if she is nominated, but I consider all of the other women not only nomination worthy but win worthy (Haas included) and I don’t think the same of Washington.
