Clarkson. She never directly faced any of the 2019 Emmy nominees during the 2018-2019 winter awards season so that distorts the amount of support she had in this particularly group of 6. WTSU has the support of the actors so MSB & Farmiga are safe. Qualley was in the breakout year, a legacy and in the likely series runner up. Arquette always had the win on lock & Watson was in the Series winner. Add Sharp Objects lack of overall Emmy love and the fact it just barely made series by the hair then Clarkson bumped is the most realistic scenario.

Not all of the When They See Us fans were insane enough to vote Marsha Stephanie Blake.  It was either her or Margaret Qualley.

Probably Blake. She only got in because voters were looking to fill out their ballots and she was right at the top of half of them in a show they liked.

In fact, no one can really prove that Sharp Objects was weak among voters (you just assume). Yes, Scanlen didn’t happen, but that’s not so surprising, I would have been much more confident in Elizabeth Perkins’ nomination, for example, if she had been submitted. There are times when younger talents are not supported by the voters, and there are times when they are (Joey King). It’s absolutely random.

Clarkson won two big televised awards and probably didn’t win just because The Act was fresher in the minds of voters, and due to Michelle Williams, as Patricia could not be rewarded in lead. This was the consolation prize for her. I think Clarkson was a very close runner-up.

It’s enough to get a nomination if your show is strong, but if you don’t have an individual buzz to win, it doesn’t matter. Of the nominees, only Clarkson and Watson had a strong personal buzz. There is no way in hell that Farmiga, Blake or Qualley got more votes for the win than Clarkson.

    FYC 2022 Emmys:

Best Actress in a Drama Series: Sandra Oh in "Killing Eve"

Best Actress in a Comedy Series: Sandra Oh in "The Chair"

Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Kim Joo-ryoung in "Squid Game"

Felicity was better than both her nominated costar.
    And better than Qualley.
Probably would have been nominated over Blake.
I don’t know if she will act again anytime soon but she’s really one of the best out there.

Perhaps the bigger question is: would Huffman still have been nominated had she been on the ballot even with the scandal having happened?

How about the fact it missed out on writing and directing nominations whilst Escape at Dannemora and Fosse/Verdon got them? Also no one was ever saying any of those actresses were ahead of Clarkson for the win. We were talking about the nomination. Clarkson was probably second for the win in 2019 or third.

I wouldn’t say level of writing/directing support is indicative of levels of support from the acting branch (or vice versa).

I would understand them not wanting to campaign for her during the media storm surrounding the admissions scandal, but I thought it was a little pathetic for Huffman not be submitted. She made a mistake (some people think what she did is catastrophic- I personally could not care less but that’s not the point) and owned up and accepted her punishment. She would have been locked for a nomination. I loved Arquette and think she may still have prevailed in the end, especially since Williams seemed destined to take the Lead Emmy that Arquette was previously locked to win before Fosse/Verdon aired.

So yeah, Huffman would have nominated. No question. She has done the right thing in light of what happened and I think she will be back to work when the world gets back to a sense of normality.

No, they dropped William H. Macy.

Whoever said she would have bumped Arquette is deranged.

No, they dropped William H. Macy.

But Macy had arguably been clinging on for years so probably only needed the slightest hit to knock him out. Huffman would have need a much bigger knock as she’d have been the most acclaimed name in the supporting cast of a new show people were so crying out to support that they nominated Marsha Stephanie Blake of all people. Not saying it would have happened but still think she would have been close.

I guess that I should have just left it then at “No.  The scandal was way too big a scandal for Huffman specifically.

The irony is spot-on as a contender has won the category whose series has received a total of two acting nominations.

if you’ve talked about nominations, it’s even more unbelievable that you think Marsha Stephanie Blake or Margaret Qualley, even Vera Farmiga finished ahead of Clarkson.

I said in terms of the nomination repeatedly and not in terms of the win. I believe Clarkson was probably second for the win once she was nominated.

And Chernobyl got nominated for three Emmys and like Fosse/Verdon only missed out for one member of their key cast (who had Chernobyl aired now probably would have been nominated considering her star has risen).

I find it ironic that someone thinks that Elizabeth Perkins would have been nominated for Sharp Objects when the show was so weak (and I’m saying this as someone who loved Sharp Objects and Fosse/Verdon).

Clarkson was obviously first or second in nominations. You don’t just go from winning the Globe and CC, with an individual SAG nomination for a Supporting role to last in nominations when you’re the frontrunner throughout the season. Farmiga, Qualley, and Blake couldn’t muster up anything past CC, they were obviously at the bottom of the lineup in both nominations and wins.
