The title of this show sounds kind of… horrible? It’s not very catchy.

It’s a nod to Magic. He referred the closing minutes of a game to be ‘winning time’.

No, I don’t think so, that’s McKay’s tone. It’s been referred to as drama.

I thought so too. It’s actually the least stylised of the lot, which I think maybe helps me for some reason.

ReplyCopy URLMarch 6, 2022 at 7:36 pm #1204834133It has Adam McKay’s footprints all over it, for better and for worse. I like the visual style and the chaotic editing fits the tone, the cast is great (Gaby Hoffmann had great moments, I hope she has as much as screentime as she had in this episode, and Quincy Isaiah, who is very clear a co lead, is delightful).
The humor is just the classic Adam McKay dudebros humor. Didn’t make me laugh a single time and that’s why I now can understand why this is going Drama.
Need to wait more before taking any conclusions about its awards chance. The show is not as “broader” as I thought it was.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 6, 2022 at 9:17 pm #1204834269I enjoyed the first episode. I like the stylized nature of it. I was skeptical of the talking to the camera bits at first but that worked for the most part for me. The cast is uniformly strong so far. The show does a great job of really putting us in the time period. I’ll be curious to see what future episodes directed by someone other than Adam McKay look like.
