The only thing comforting about these nominations is that I know the writers branch of the television Academy -arguably the only branch that hasn’t fallen to the trap of namechecks and lazy sweep- will not nominate the morning show.  We all know they are the superior branch that actually tries to watch a lot of shows in contention

There is too much unnecessary hate for The Morning Show on this forum.

Agreed. But there is always is when shows that are actually fun get nominated so buckle up.

Succession is such an easy win for drama 🤣

First of all I think The Morning Show took a big risk (bigger than shows like Grey’s Anatomy or This Is Us) setting the entire season between January and March 2020…it was not comfortable to watch but I found it accurate and realistic…we were living that way in those days, not caring too much until the very last day..

That said, writng is the weakest part of the show, in comparison to acting (SAG noms fully earned) and directing (I would totally support a nomination for “Confirmations” or “Testimony”, the two best episodes of season 2).

About “La Amara Vita”, I liked it, didn’t love it, but considering what happens in the episode, and the fact that is written by Ehrin and directed by Leder, I thought from the beginning it would get a big push from Apple, at the Emmys too (it might be their only submission like the season finale for season 1, when they scored a directing nod).

Yeah, I found this season all over the place and it wouldn’t be on my list for program for that reason (it would be for Crudup, and after being very pro-Aniston early I ended up being won over by Reese in later eps and was about even) but I think you have to admire them going for the big swings.

They didn’t just touch on it, they really leaned in to it, along with a lot of other pandemic-era issues. I’ll be honest and say I don’t love pandemic content but that has a LOT to do with my personal life and that’s projecting – it may not be indicative of industry.

La Amara Vita was not a favourite of mine. I’d actually have gone for Confirmations the next week, however, as a standalone, pseudo-bottle episode, La Amara Vita worked and distilled a lot in to a single episode to come to a conclusion it needed to come to, and it is the episode I remember the best from this season, which I think means it was effective, though I may not have thought so at the time.

Delighted by the nomination for 1883! Taylor Sheridan is such an incredibly gifted and underrated writer (and director!). He truly deserves all the awards!

I know it gets kind of boring for the fans when everyone is saying how the second season of The Morning Show was really bad, but when there are way too many people with same opinion maybe it’s because it’s… true? I’m not a hater of the show and I actually was even glad for Witherspoon getting in at SAG because she has been overlooked at awards way too much in these last few years.

However, writing? I can accept name-checking in Drama Series, but Episodic for one of the worst episodes I’ve watched last year? I cringed through that entire hour. The writers couldn’t decide if they wanted us to sympathize with a harasser or not and WGA just chose to recognize that.

I suppose my counter for it is that it isn’t necessarily up to the show to have to have a moral position on certain things, maybe it is up to the viewer to decide (which I can also respect as a position)?

I don’t really want to see the show get an overall drama series nomination this year because I think it is inconsistent in a way that most shows without the budget or profile or star power do not have, or will never have, the luxury to be. If it ultimately brings it together in later seasons then I think that’s fine.

The triple nominations for Ozark, WWDITS and WandaVision at the expense of Mindhunter, Insecure, TUR etc would paint another picture. And that’s only shows that are Emmy series/WGA nominees. The rest don’t even stand a chance. They are still very much picking from the crop of top Emmy contenders and a PEN15 is few and far between. They are the branch that aligns with these forums’ collective tastes more than others so I can understand the fondness but they are given too much credit. Laziness and namechecks are still very much prevalent here, even if they do snub TMS in the end like you say.

Happy This Is Us scored another nomination for another great episode!

Every season they produce a couple of episodes really whorthy of writing and directing nominations..I can’t believe they can’t break into those categories at the Emmys.

Fingers crossed for the series finale!

All those triple noms were deserved. And he Academy as clearly did not cared for Mindhunter, Insecure, TUR as a whole. We just refuse to listen, especially for Insecure.

That is your opinion. For me La Amara Vita was one of the best episodes of the year, the ambivalence around Mitch was delightful and though provoking. Also, very realistic. Some characters still loved him regardless of everything he did and this is real life. Also the critics towards the objectively realistic portrayal of the behavior of people pre 13 of March 2020 was very funny, people tends to forget very quickly… Very Don’t Look Up worthy storyline, which makes that movie even better.

Does anyone else feel like Yellowjackets could upset in new series? It feels like it’s peaking at the right time and considering Succession is already taking the drama series award here and Hacks is probably taking the comedy series award, I can see the guild giving it the award like with Watchmen a few years ago.

    FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.

That would be so well deserved and such a breath of fresh air.
