Timothy Dalton’s licence to thrill Crown audiences as Princess Margaret’s former lover

Timothy Dalton is to join the cast of The Crown as Group Captain Peter Townsend, as the drama stages a poignant reunion scene with Princess Margaret.

The former James Bond actor will play Townsend in the final years of his life.

In the forthcoming fifth season of the Netflix drama, he and Princess Margaret, played by Lesley Manville, will meet when they are both guests at an Armed Forces reception in the early 1990s.

Guest Actor contender perhaps? This storyline will form the Margaret centric episode then.

There’s also some leaked set footage, possibly of Princess Anne’s romance with her bodyguard, Peter Cross.

Knowing Netflix they might not even bother to submit him -_- .

Oh wow. I never knew that level of stupidity does exist.

Netflix would probably have excused it due to Brooke’s lack of name recognition but honestly I think had he been submitted he would have gotten in and maybe even won. He was the eponymous character of his episode so it’s not like voters won’t have known who he played.

He’s probably the most egregious non-submission sub this year. I’d say he should have self submitted but I get the politicking around that potentially as a guest star like that.

(Meanwhile The Crown submits five supporting actressses..)

I really think that when voters would see this written on the ballot:

    Tom Brooke as Michael Fagan
    The Crown – “Fagan”

All the name recognition worries would be put to rest cause anyone can just remember in an instance his charachter from just the name. Frankly speaking,I think he would have won and The Crown would have gone 6/6.

Honestly I feel this category has proved over the last few years that you should just submit anyone whose performances are good and the voters will figure it out.

They never actually used to until now. In 2020 they only submitted HBC and Doherty and in 2017 they only submitted Kirby.

I suspect submission and FYC may be written in to certain contracts but I also think that 2019 Supporting Actress situation might have to do with some of the oversubmissions. Christie might not have won, but she was competitive enough it probably changed the outcome of the category.

I think you can guess who voters might like but you’re not always right. I would never have guessed Jeremy Swift and Brendan Hunt would have gotten Supporting Actor noms but here we are.

    Just curious about this…..

If you were a SAG voter, how would you rank to vote the three main ladies of Crown S4- Gillian Anderson, Emma Corrin and Olivia Colman?
