November 19, 2019 at 2:43 pm #1203188506No one responded to my Luigi’s Mansion 3 post. Oh well.
I’m guessing that we’ll get 2 Nintendo nominees this year for GOTY, since they pretty much carried 2019 on their shoulders with their late-year lineup. My predictions are Super Smash Bros Ultimate, which is still super relevant thanks to DLC and will probably get another character reveal at the ceremony, and Super Mario Maker 2, since the first Mario Maker was nominated and there’s been a Mario nominee every 2 years since 2013.

But seriously, no Mario Maker 2 for GOTY? I’m pretty shocked tbh. At least Smash Ultimate made it in.</p>
Tbh this year’s lineup of games was so underwhelming that I’m not really rooting for any of these games except for Smash Ultimate and Kingdom Hearts 3 for score/RPG.ReplyCopy URLJohn's Best of 2020

Best Screenplay: Judas and the Black MessiahDecember 12, 2019 at 8:58 pm #1203234374Well that was one of the most random series of awards I’ve ever seen. There was no rhyme or reason to anything that was given tonight. The GOTY only won 1 other award, Death Stranding won Game Direction but not GOTY, Fresh Indie Game is an award that exists for no real reason at all and it was presented over Best Indie Game, Apex wins Best Multiplayer but not ongoing, Ultimate is nominated for GOTY but doesn’t win Family game, fan favorite Resi 2 is shut out entirely, and the most wins went to a game that wasn’t even nominated for GOTY and that literally no one had ever heard of or cared about. It was like they threw a bunch of darts at a dartboard to see who won. I feel sorry for anyone who tried to predict this.
The non-awards stuff was cool though. Lots of game announcements, including a huge one with the new Xbox reveal (though I have no idea what Microsoft is doing with that thing). That’s a big deal to have a console reveal in your show. Lots of new IP’s as well, even if the fantasy themes did get a little samey. Great music and cameos as well. The orchestra continue to be the unsung heroes of this show, and Vin Diesel + Michelle Rodriguez really caught me off guard. No Smash DLC announcement was a bummer, but maybe we all gave our hopes up too much for that. Overall I’m glad that they leaned less into the baffling awards side of things and more into the announcements and theatrics. Game Awards knows what we like more, and they seem to be shifting their focus appropriately.

Best Screenplay: Judas and the Black MessiahDecember 13, 2019 at 4:26 am #1203234620Wow. Didn’t expect Sekiro to win. I thought the difficulty would have turned many of the voters off. But glad it won. One of my favorite games of the year.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 22, 2021 at 9:31 am #1204054433It’s been an amazing year with a lot of good games created, but I would like to see another good game on this list that has helped me rethink a lot in this life and helped me have a great time. This game is directly related to the fact that I often checked on different sites available Rl prices, it is worth it to have a place in this list. I am sure that soon gamers will really appreciate this game and it will be a real salvation for many, as well as for me. I am absolutely sure of this and I will wait for those times
