Is it possible for this forum to have a system of notifications when somebody has commented on or responded to your post?

Also is it possible to attach a poll to a thread?

I’m a noob so if these are already options apologies in advance..

Basic gamesmanship.  If you’re going to award points, then for fuck’s sake program the odds in a parimutuel format.  Isn’t that obvious?  It’s so easy to game the system and receive better odds on Gold Derby.  Figure it out and fix it.

    Wow, it’s true.

Greeting Tom, One of the things I noticed that changed this year was the way the odds work. Well, work in the sense that two years ago, when you picked a category to win the oscar you could lock something in at the those odds, and if you ever changed them the odds would switch to the current odds. Paul even made reference to this in a recent podcast when he mentioned that the winner two years ago picked spotlight and left it out from just so she could keep those odds. It seems like the way it works now, you can pull over the best odds at any point. For instance I would check the odds once a week or so and if there were longer odds on the left, I simply pull them over which would sure me I have the longest odds to work with for my final picks. The odds seem to hold puling them over from the left rather that making a prediction. (once odds are pulled over to the right, they stay that way, two years ago they would change if you moved anything up and down.)

Or if you are truly trying to use “racetrack” odds (horses)…you should have the odds change for everyone all the time. When you bet on a horse at the track, you might bet a horse at 8 to 1 and if that horse goes to 1 to 1, then you get the odds 1 to 1. That would make things a level playing field rather than a lot depending on when you pulled odds over.

    Just my thoughts.

That’s so crazy. I feel like I’ve been “playing” this site wrong all these years. Don’t know why odds wouldn’t always be updated for everyone in real time, seems for some categories it would be more advantageous to go with your gut if you’ve placed something when it was unpopular, than what you actually think will win/get nominated.

On another note, I’ve always thought it’d be cool to have certain award shows, namely the ones where you can pool for nominations, available for picking choices earlier in the year. It just seems like I really use this website around award season, and then for the rest of the year I use it much less frequently. I’d definitely update my nominations year-round if the option was given, which I think would be fun. I don’t want to bring up a competing site, but there used to be a website that allowed Oscar nomination predictions to be made from the start of the year, but about halfway through 2017 they removed the prediction function of the site entirely.
I also would think it’d be useful to have all award categories available at once. I know a lot of film frontrunners specifically are reliant on what is and isn’t weeded out over the course of the year, but when the Oscar nominations are announced and I can only vote for the main 8 or so categories until X number of publications decide to release their predictions for other areas a month later, it’s a bummer.

I really like using Gold Derby and hope to continue using it in the future. This ended up being a much longer post then I expected, lol. These are just the things that have stuck with me where I could see improvements being made.

I like seeing the odds of each nominee, but it would be really beneficial to ask users to essentially submit their own Oscar ballot, this way people can speak their mind instead of feeding off of other people’s opinions.

I like the whole idea behind it! It’s fun and something new, at least I haven’t used anything like it before. The only thing that I don’t like is that somehow my predictions don’t appear in my profile, which is a bit annoying, but I think I am doing something wrong! 🙁

Maybe it doesn’t really fit here, but I think in the predictions there should be an additional option, something like Super Bet I guess, at least for the Emmys, where we’ll be able to add one more nominee in 2 or 3 categories in our predictions, the Emmys do it a few times and it’d be nice to get the chance to predict 7 nominees for a category and who knows? someone might get right not only the nominees but also the fact that the category got 7 slots as well. Idk, just a thought.

I think I accidentally ignored someone and can’t see the person’s posts anymore. Is there anyway this can be undone?

I miss the write-ups and interviews with the Gold Derby contest winners explaining how they arrived at their decisions that helped them win the pool. It gave you a glimpse into other people’s minds and the different methods people use for making their predictions.

Granted, I am biased as I had a write-up done about me 2 years ago when I won the DGA contest and it was something kind of cool to share with friends and family. Reading the article over months later I couldn’t help but laugh at myself as I said “The Revenant” was the clear Best Picture frontrunner after its DGA win and I completely discounted “Spotlight” pointing out it likely would only win 1 other Oscar that night and therefore would not reach the “minimum of 3 Oscars” rule for Best Picture winners. How wrong I was! LOL!

I hope everyone is doing well.

I’m hoping to hear contest winner Riley’s thought process for doing the best predicting the Emmy nominees.
