Interesting thoughts, Michael! Tx for this valuable input! I’ll noodle this with our tech teamNovember 23, 2017 at 5:14 am #1202419015
It seems that if I edit my post more than twice it goes into some sort of strange state when an administrator needs to approve a very minor edit.
I suspect that it means the post is invisible to the other users while this happens?
If this admin approval is really needed, it would be good to get some warning on the second edit, or perhaps be given the option to revert the third edit. I’d rather have a slightly imperfect post than an invisible one.November 26, 2017 at 3:17 pm #1202421421
I had this post I made about the Grammys in the music forum flagged as “awaiting moderator approval,” but that was over a month ago. I assume it got flagged because I kept trying to make too many edits to it at once when I first posted it, but I don’t see how why it should be flagged as there’s nothing at all offensive in the post. If whoever moderates the forums can please approve this before the Grammy nominations come out on Tuesday, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks! http://www.goldderby.com/forum/music/2018-grammys-visual-media-predictions-for-best-score-soundtrack-song/December 10, 2017 at 10:13 am #1202435142
Is it really not possible to make it so posters that have more than say 50 or 100 posts don’t have to go through the roulette of maybe having your post removed if you have to edit it? (I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve never got a post back from moderator approval.)
And automatically have moderators check a brand new poster that starts a new thread (or multiple new threads) especially ones that contain non-latin characters. Or automatically remove threads that multiple posters report as spam.
Other things that could be improved:
Smiley go giant within quotes.
The forum chatter sidebar would be more useful if it didn’t contain posts from the games forum. People are going to go to the games forum anyway if they want to play, but they aren’t part of a conversation in the way other forums are.December 18, 2017 at 5:43 pm #1202443740
Sorry! We just made a tech change that, hopefully, should solve this problem. If you experience the problem again, please alert us here … Tell me what the post is aboutDecember 24, 2017 at 3:46 am #1202447713
What I like and much appreciate is that this website gives me access to many of the movie ”experts” and their informed opinions, and it’s all without charge !
Many thanks to Mr Tom O’Neil and the other Editors here at G D ..and best wishes for the holidays and the coming year !
THANK YOU TOM !January 9, 2018 at 7:50 am #1202461808
The experts should be a lot more. what about 100?January 9, 2018 at 11:05 am #1202461979
Thank you for this website! Without it I’d be so disorganized trying to follow everything.
The one question I have, though, is why certain critics groups are counted in your score card tallies and some are not (such as Columbus, Austin).
Just curious!January 11, 2018 at 12:32 am #1202463921
Stop closing the predictions center early. Critics Choice TV is already closed even though it says it’s supposed to close at 2 PM PST today.January 11, 2018 at 9:40 am #1202464212
Sorry about closing down the prediction center early, but we have reason to believe that news of Critics’ Choice winners, SAG nominees, etc., are leaking out early. We’re investigating.
As for those other critics’ awards groups like Austin and Columbus, we have no plans to predict them currently, but that may change. Behind the scenes, Gold Derby is going through a major tech upgrade, which should give us expanded capacity in the future. Stay tuned. TXJanuary 12, 2018 at 1:22 pm #1202465845
As both Alex00g2 and Alex Meyer mentioned above, minor typo corrections can lead to “awaiting moderator approval” and sometimes I post things that never get approved after making a small fix. (It happened just now in the “Lady Bird Shutout” thread.)
Also, with the Gold Derby awards, people are making requests for nominations and I don’t see them added to the Prediction Center for people to vote on. I know the rule was no more than 5 requests. For example, I really want to vote for Kedi for Best Documentary if possible.
I know it’s the busiest time of year. So it’s understandable if it takes awhile, I just wanted to reiterate these two situations since others were mentioning it here and other parts of the forum.
Otherwise, this is still the most fun place to spend award season! The fact that we can have a vote in the Gold Derby awards at all is such a treat. My other favorite thing about Gold Derby is the slugfests, the YouTube videos and podcasts. Excellent work by you and your team!January 13, 2018 at 7:16 pm #1202466674
Starting a couple weeks ago, whenever I click on http://www.goldderby.com/members/joef123/forums/replies/ it shows the most recent posts by EVERYONE on GD instead of just me

There’s a blank space between the Reply and Ignore buttons, where it should be the number of upvotes. It can only be seen if the comment doesn’t have any upvotes.
UPDATE: Now you can see the number of upvotes, but when you point to see who upvoted your comment, it doesn’t show the names.
