2020 Emmy Predictions: Best Drama Series

This year’s Emmy Awards are guaranteed to crown a new winner for Best Drama Series with reigning four-time champ “Game of Thrones” no longer on the air. Of its unlucky seven rivals last year, six of them –“Better Call Saul,” “Killing Eve,” “Ozark,” “Pose,” “Succession” and “This Is Us” — are back on the ballot. The seventh, “Bodyguard,” did not air any new episodes during the eligibility period from June 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020. Among those returning shows that did not air last awards season is 2017 winner “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which is back with season 3. Also returning to contention with their third seasons are “The Crown,” “Stranger Things” and “Westworld.”

The red-hot “Succession” was snubbed last year but is a strong contender for its sophomore season. While “Big Little Lies” contended as a limited series for its first installment, the TV academy rule that it is a drama for season 2 Among the newcomers looking for their first bids are “Euphoria,” “Hunters,” “The Mandalorian” “The Morning Show,” and “The Outsider.”
