The revival of “American Idol” on ABC follows the same format that worked so well for 15 seasons on FOX. The Season 19 Top 24 were chosen from those who survived Hollywood Week. Each of these contestants had to sing in the Showstopper round to convince the three judges — Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie — that they deserved a place in the “American Idol” Top 24.
In turn, each of these “American Idol” season 19 finalists performed both solo and as part of a duet. Only two-thirds of them made it to the Top 16. In turn, those were cut by a quarter with the “American Idol” season 19 Top 12 competing for viewers’ votes on the live shows.
