Burstyn is one of my two all-time favorite actors (the other is Anne Bancroft). One small correction, the notes with DYING YOUNG state Burstyn played the dying man’s mother when she actually played the Julia Roberts character’s mother. I don’t recall if Campbell Scott’s real life mother Colleen Dewhurst played his mother in the film or not but she was in the film too.
In my opinion, Burstyn should have two Oscars under her belt. One for Requiem and the other for The Exorcist. Absolutely NO WAY should Glenda Jackson defeat not only Burstyn but Striesand (The Way We Were) in 1973. And the overdue Julia Roberts in 2000 was simply no match for Burstyn’s turn in Requiem. Faye Dunaway (Chinatown) and Valerie Perrine (Lenny) both were more deserving than Burstyn in 1974. I believe Burstyn has a lot left in the tank, and for that, THANK YOU !
I watched Ellen in the movie version of Same Time, Next Year with Alan Alda. I have seen her in other movies as well. I like her as an actress.
