The Israeli-born actress made her big screen debut at the age of 12 in Luc Besson’s thriller, “Leon: The Professional.” Since then, she has appeared in more than 40 films ranging from independent movies like “Garden State” to big-budget blockbusters such as the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy and the “Thor” franchise from Marvel Studios. ‘Jackie’ (2016)

Portman has already won a Critics’ Choice Award and is nominated for a SAG Award for playing former first lady Jackie Kennedy in the aftermath of her husband’s assassination in 1963.

‘Thor’ (2011) & ‘Thor: The Dark World’ (2013)

Portman plays Dr. Jane Foster, an astrophysicist and love interest to the Norse god (Chris Hemsworth) in these adaptations of the Marvel comic, which grossed a combined $1 billion at the box office. 

‘Black Swan’ (2010)

For her role as a ballet dancer who loses her identity and her sanity as she prepares for a starring role, Portman won the Oscar for Best Actress, as well as similar honors from the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild.

‘Brothers’ (2009)

In this family drama directed by Jim Sheridan, Portman stars as a military wife whose husband (Tobey Maguire) returns from a traumatic tour of duty, and believes that she has developed a relationship with his brother.

‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ (2008)

In this film Portman takes on the role of Anne Boleyn, the ill-fated second wife of King Henry VIII. The movie plays loose with historical facts, depicting Anne as a manipulative woman who has more influence over the king of England than was historically accurate.

‘V for Vendetta’ (2006)

In this adaptation of the comic series, Portman plays Evey, a working-class British woman who teams up with a vigilante to combat a neo-Fascist regime.

‘Star Wars’ Prequel Trilogy (1999, 2002, 2005)

In the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy, which grossed a combined $2.5 billion worldwide, Portman plays Padme Amidala, Queen of Naboo and future mother of Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.

‘Closer’ (2004)

Portman received an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe for her portrayal of an American stripper in a complicated relationship with two British men in this Mike Nichols-directed adaptation of Patrick Marber’s play.

‘Garden State’ (2004)

In this critically acclaimed independent film written and directed by Zach Braff, who also stars, Portman played an epileptic who has a problem with compulsive lying.

‘Leon: The Professional’ (1994)

Portman was only 12 years old when she made her film debut as an orphan who befriends a hitman (Jean Reno) in this thriller from director Luc Besson.
