Think twice before hitting the red carpet!

Winning an Oscar is a historic moment and those photographs will last forever. The last thing anyone wants to be remembered for is wearing a bad ensemble or with one’s hair a mess (talking to you, Casey Affleck!).

Before showing up the nominees really should think about the “just in case I win scenario” regardless of their odds. For example, Marcia Gay Harden (“Pollock,” 2000): few were expecting her to win Best Supporting Actress that year, but she showed up dressed to win, looked stunning, and thus does not make this list.

Take a look at those Oscar winners who should’ve thought through their outfits a little more because many haven’t had a second chance to redeem themselves yet.

There is a silver lining, though. At least they didn’t make our gallery of the Best Dressed Oscar Losers. Regardless of your ensemble, the best look always includes an Oscar in hand.

Alicia Vikander

Won Best Supporting Actress for “The Danish Girl” (2015).

Maybe showing up dressed as Belle from “Beauty and the Beast” wasn’t a good idea.

Anne Hathaway

Won Best Supporting Actress for “Les Miserables” (2012).

We all know why Hathaway’s on the list there staring us in the face.

Jennifer Lawrence

Won Best Actress for “Silver Linings Playbook” (2012).

While the dress was beautiful she’s best remembered for the trip it caused on her way to the stage.

Tilda Swinton

Won Best Supporting Actress for “Michael Clayton” (2007).

It was a topsy-turvy race that year. But another case of show up dressed to win since you really never know.

Jennifer Hudson

Won Best Supporting Actress for “Dreamgirls” (2006).

Everyone was rooting for this overnight sensation, but that jacket made it hard and even though she took it off inside it was hard to forget. Hudson herself was not a fan of the ensemble as she changed before going to the press room.

Cate Blanchett

Won Best Supporting Actress for “The Aviator” (2004).

The dress itself is beautiful, but the color washes her out and the broach is a little old ladyish.

Charlize Theron

Won Best Actress for “Monster” (2003).

It’s not the dress that landed her on this list. Theron is one of the most beautiful and talented women in Hollywood, but she was the victim of overzealous tanning.

Jennifer Connelly

Won Best Supporting Actress for “A Beautiful Mind” (2001).

Just completely washed her out and ill fitting. Also, the scarf is not helping.

Angelina Jolie

Won Best Supporting Actress for “Girl, Interrupted” (1999).

Probably wasn’t the best idea showing up dressed as Morticia from “The Addams Family.”

Gwyneth Paltrow

Won Best Actress for “Shakespeare in Love” (1998).

Two words: Prom Dress. But at least her parents (Bruce Paltrow and Blythe Danner) purchased her jewelry for her.

Juliette Binoche

Won Best Supporting Actress for “The English Patient” (1996).

In fairness, everyone thought Lauren Bacall (“The Mirror Has Two Faces”) was going to win including Binoche herself. A lesson in coming dressed to win no matter what!

Susan Sarandon

Won Best Actress for “Dead Man Walking” (1995).

Sarandon finally won an Oscar on her fifth try! Maybe she thought she was going to lose again — that’s the only way to explain this. Maybe picking a dress the same color as her hair wasn’t the best idea. But that doesn’t forgive the ill fit.

Jodie Foster

Won Best Actress for “The Silence of the Lambs” (1991).

A sparkly pant suit with satin gloves is never a good idea. Foster really should’ve known better as this was her second win.

Cher

Won Best Actress for “Moonstruck” (1987).

No one has ever forgotten this look from the notorious fashion renegade.

Barbra Streisand

Won Best Actress for “Funny Girl” — tied with Katharine Hepburn for “The Lion in Winter” (1969).

See-through. Probably shoud’ve held this up to a light before wearing it.
