Oscar predictions slugfest: Can ‘Parasite’ or ‘Jojo Rabbit’ win Best Picture? [EXCLUSIVE VIDEO & AUDIO PODCAST]

Hey, Oscar fans: It’s time for you to follow a frisky bunny and a harsh-sounding Korean-language film that were just released to theaters, if you’re seriously tracking the Oscar derby. It’s clear from early, positive film-industry reactions and strong preliminary box-office receipts that “Jojo Rabbit” and “Parasite” will be nominated for Best Picture and even are real contenders to win, according to Gold Derby’s fearless, battling editors Daniel Montgomery, Susan Wloszczyna, Joyce Eng and me.

“‘Parasite’ is amazing,” Susan asserts, “but it’s also South Korea’s contender” in the race for Best International Feature Film. “It might just win that. It could be something like ‘Roma’ where voters feel that it’s already rewarded.”  Last year most Gold Derby prognosticators predicted “Roma” would win Best Picture, but its loss to “Green Book” was no doubt in part due to its separate victory as best foreign film.
