Billboard Music Awards

Billboard Music Awards 2015

Billboard Music Awards 2015

Taylor Swift leads with 14 nominations across 13 categories at the Billboard Awards, which will air live on ABC on May 17. Hot on her heels are three newcomers: Sam Smith with 13 bids, Iggy Azalea with 12, and Meghan Trainor with nine. These kudos are doled out based on radio play and record sales over the past year plus streaming, touring, and social media interactions. The eligibility period ran from March 10, 2014, through March 8, 2015. Swift, who won the Top Artist Award in 2013, contends in that category against recent Grammy darling Smith as well as Ariana Grande, One Direction and Katy Perry. Smith, who won Best New Artist at the Grammys, is up for that same award here as are Azalea and Trainor as well as 5 Seconds of Summer and Hozier. For Top Male Artist, Smith faces off against last year's big winner, Justin Timberlake, as well as Drake, Pharrell Williams and Ed Sheeran.  Perry defends her Top Female Artist title against Azalea, Grande, Swift and Trainor.  Last year, Imagine Dragons pulled off an upset in Top Duo/Group. This year, they were snubbed with boybands One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer contending against veterans Florida Georgia Line and Maroon 5 and newcomers MAGIC!.  We are predicting the outcomes of all of these five races, plus the top artists in country, rap, rock and R&B as well as the Top 200 album and the Hot 100 song. And we will be predicting who will prevail for the Milestone Award when those nominees are announced later this month.  Get the most races right and you could win a $100 Amazon gift certificate and a place of honor on our leaderboards. You also have to use your three big bets (500 points and two of 200 points) strategically to score the most game points. If you bet on a longshot who pulls off an upset, you can really rack up the points. As we use those point totals to break ties when more than one user tops our leaderboard with the same number of correct answers, don't take them for granted. Last year, our editors outpaced our users with an average accuracy score of 75% versus 50% for these 12 categories. The two dozen users who earned the highest scores last year form our Top 24 Users this time around.

Daytime Emmys 2015

Daytime Emmys 2015

"General Hospital" is one step closer to Daytime Emmys redemption. It picked up 28 nominations this year, more than any other program, including Best Drama Series. "GH" suffered some of last year's biggest snubs, failing to earn nominations for writing, directing, or Drama Series, and winning just two awards, fewer than any other soap. But it's represented in all three top dramatic races this time around. It also picked up 13 acting nominations, including two (Donna Mills and Linda Elena Tovar) in the new Special Guest Performer category. Following with 25 nominations is "The Young and the Restless," which won a whopping nine awards last year, including Best Drama. It had led this year's acting pre-nominations with 22, and 11 of its actors made the final cut, including three (Meredith Baxter, Sally Kellerman and Ray Wise) in the Special Guest Performer race. "The Bold and the Beautiful" was next with 19 bids, but that includes only four acting nominations, and none for five-time Emmy winner Heather Tom, who had contended for the last four years for the CBS soap. But Fred Willard did make the cut for Special Guest Performer for his role as John Forrester. "Days of Our Lives" earned the fewest nominations among soap operas with 16, but that includes Best Actress for Alison Sweeney, her first nomination after 21 years on the series. However, all four remaining soap operas were nominated for Drama Series, Writing Team, and Directing Team, so there wasn't a single snub in those races. Following the four soaps, "Sesame Street" led all children's programs with 13 bids, while "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" is the top talk show with 10 bids and "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" is the most nominated animated program with seven. The nominations were announced on CBS's "The Talk," which picked up seven nominations of its own, including Best Entertainment Talk Show and Best Entertainment Talk Show Host. ABC's once formidable talker "The View" only picked up two nominations this year, for Best Hairstyling and Best Multiple Camera Editing. There were a few major snubs in the drama acting categories. Best Supporting Actor frontrunner Blake Berris ("Days") was left out entirely, as was his co-star, last year's winner Eric Martsolf. Younger Actress favorite Camryn Grimes ("Y&R") was also overlooked. Peter Bergman ("Y&R") wasn't able to extend his record for the most Best Actor nominations: this would have been his 20th career bid.
