Wish it were Coel but don’t think the Globes are cool enough.
I’m very curious how industry will respond to Coel. I know they are two very different shows but I May Destroy You deserves the same awards trajectory as Fleabag had. If I May Destroy You is snubbed everywhere except BAFTA then…October 27, 2020 at 1:09 pm #1203805947
Genius: Aretha is written by a new writer, not the writer from the first two seasons. This might result the show to be more critically acclaimed.
I liked the first episode of The Undoing way more than LFE. I think the level of critical acclaim it received is mostly due to not having social commentary or topicality. I’m not expecting many shows to air this upcoming spring. That level of competition might be enough for The Undoing to sneak in.October 27, 2020 at 7:53 am #1203805070
In other news the DailyMail says Hollywood s2 is currently being shot. Wouldn’t be the first time netflix starts shooting a show without officially announcing it https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-8883337/Laura-Harrier-takes-break-filming-Hollywoods-second-season.html

This conversation reminded me when so many people were convinced Unorthodox and Normal People were non-starters at Emmys. TV critics twitter is flooding with TQG praise tweets.October 27, 2020 at 5:50 am #1203804894

It’s literally only the first episode lmao. Riley and some reviewers have already said he is more Lead in later episodes.
My review is based only on the first episode. I will write my thoughts again when I get to see more of his performance. Also this show consolidated my opinion that Defending Jacob is the worst suburban mystery.October 26, 2020 at 1:47 pm #1203803886
This was a fast paced murder mystery. To be honest I felt like I was watching Big Little Lies: New York for most of the episode. Kidman’s character is again the nice rich mom with seemingly cool husband. Lily Rabe’s character is basically Madeline and Elena is another version of Shaleine Woodley’s character. It wasn’t bad but I wasn’t amazed by it. It lacks the nuance and depth BLL had even though it was engaging to watch. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad show just because it lacks social commentary, it’s still a solid mystery. Acting was fine but nothing outstanding. For now I wouldn’t call any performances awards worthy. This is definitely not Hugh Grant’s career best performance, that would be an insult to his legacy. He also didn’t feel lead to me. Donald Sutherland, Lily Rabe and especially Edgar Ramirez were severely underused. I really liked the directing.October 25, 2020 at 12:18 pm #1203801738

I also think Scenes From A Marriage will be for next year. They may even save Mare of Easton for summer or fall.October 25, 2020 at 7:42 am #1203801344
The first two seasons of Succession have been better than the first two seasons of Mad Men as well.
I haven’t watched Mad Men but even if Succession is better, Mad Men has a cult status and has a legacy of starting golden age of TV. It’s too early to compare Succession to Mad Men.October 25, 2020 at 12:07 am #1203801060
@ mods Can we add I Hate Suzie and Billie Piper to the predictions centre? It’s set to premiere on HBO Max this November and it generated a lot of buzz and raves in the UK when it premiered. https://pressroom.warnermedia.com/us/media-release/hbo-max-highlights-november-2020
HBO Max has acquired plenty of UK shows but I think they are not competing at Emmys since HBO Max wasn’t a co-producer. It’s A Sin is HBO Max’s first British co-production.October 24, 2020 at 12:50 pm #1203800375
There’s been so many Emmy nominated shows with terrible ratings. Majority of voters rely on screeners anyway. We know that IMDY is popular among industry. Ratings are not an issue.October 24, 2020 at 12:41 pm #1203800365
Finished the show. Easily one of the best shows of the year. Such an elegantly crafted show. Everything about it is simply amazing. I just can’t see this missing any awards. Netflix really blessed us by releasing this and Bly Manor at the same month.October 24, 2020 at 12:31 pm #1203800350
So far the following are only a few of many who have praised I May Destroy You online: – Adele – Jodie Comer – Cynthia Erivo – Jane Fonda – Janelle Monae – Seth Rogen – Sarah Snook – Darren Star Surely Michaela Coel is at the very least getting nominated here?
Jenni Konner (Girls), Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot), Jesse Armstrong (Succession), Gabrielle Union and Kerry Ehrin (The Morning Show) also praised the show. Also she is in this year’s TIME most influential people list and her praise is written by Lena Waithe.
