Jesse replied to the topic Rank your favourite tv performances – 2019/20 Season in the forum Television 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I have very little confidence in this ranking but alas:
1. Annie Murphy, Schitt’s Creek
2. Catherine O’Hara, Schitt’s Creek
3. Matthew McFayden, Succession
4. Daisy Edgar-Jones, Normal People
5. Angelica Ross, Pose
6. Jeremy Strong, Succession
7. Regina King, Watchmen
8. Reese Witherspoon, Little Fires Everywhere
9. Pamela Adlon, Better Thing…[Read more]
I think Eugene Levy has the weakest competition of the four SC actors, but had the least passion for his individual performance, so it’ll be very interesting to see if he does actually win. Whilst I wouldn’t vote for him over Danson or Youssef, I do think Season 6 was a very sentimental season for him, with his scenes in Moira Rosé, Rebound and…[Read more]
So people are predicting that voters didn’t watch season 6 of Schitt’s bc it’s not on Netflix, and gave it 15 votes based on their love for the first five seasons. If they live the show that much, then why wouldn’t they utilize the FYC streamers and catch up online. There’s definitely a percentage that isn’t caught up with any given show and is…[Read more]

Jesse replied to the topic If Succession could only win one award at this year's Emmys, who should win it? in the forum Television 2 months ago
I’d say Jeremy Strong, simply because Jesse Armstrong has been awarded already for the first season.

Barry. But shoutout to Marielle who has such a human touch to her directing that might not be as flashy as Chezelle, but is so great and consistent.

Drama Series: Succession
Lead Actress: Zendaya, Euphoria
Lead Actor: Billy Porter, Pose
Supporting Actress: Laura Dern, Big Little Lies
Supporting Actor: Billy Crudup, The Morning Show
Guest Actress: Phylicia Rashad, This Is Us
Guest Actor: Giancarlo Esposito, The Mandolorian
Directing: Aberfan, The Crown
Writing: Bagman, Better Call Saul
The combination of Limited Series and movies complicates submissions, as some contenders are episodic while others aren’t. Thus, Lead Actors submit the entire project to engage with the fact that TV Movie contenders cannot submit an episode. Thus comparing this category to drama/comedic which are inherently episodic doesn’t work.
Because Lim…[Read more]
Jesse replied to the topic What are your top 3 series of the past decade? (2010-2020) in the forum Television 2 months, 1 week ago
1. The Leftovers
2. Please Like Me
3. The Americans
HM: Fleabag, Schitt’s Creek, Broad City
THIS!!! I love both these shows as well as John Oliver’s, but these two managed to remain consistent and relevant in a way Oliver didn’t. As a South African I’m watching mainly through YouTube, and hope Trevor pulls through.
Not surprised by this choice, but glad he picked it. Johnny is obviously my least favourite of the main characters, but this is a great showcase and his speech is the culmination of six seasons of familial bonding and failed business attempts. I’ve watched the season three times already and that moment touched me every time in a way the c…[Read more]
I think it’s interesting that there’s been multiple posts (mainly about Whitford and Colman) that heavily criticize a submission because there’s limited focus/screen time yet acknowledging that the submission does in fact have the actor’s best moments. Ideally, an actor’a single best moment of a season would come in an episode where they’re t…[Read more]
I’m Gagged by this choice. Not a terrible choice, she definitely owns the episode, I just thought she’d Choi’s one with a segment where she acts, such as “Maid of Honour”, Sunrise Sunset or “Rebound” or evening just “The Premiere”. Very interesting.
I recognize that you gave multiple reasons, however just wanted to point out how you posts showed a pattern of arguing race for the sake of race.
I never expected someone to brag about voting for white shows in this forum lol, but I think the disconnect between your advocating for black actors predominantly due to the political climate But…[Read more]
Look, I’m glad every time someone acknowledges the need for diversity in winners, but at a certain point it feels like you’re only crediting Issa Rae for her ‘diversity’ and tokenizing her isn’t helpful either. Champion her, but just be wary of how your constant highlighting of the lack of historic diversity reduces her to her race. Just an o…[Read more]
I think Tern Haven is a better choice for Culkin than DC, because he is superior to McFayden and Braun in Tern Haven. DC is a great showcase for Culkin, but McFayden is great in it as well.
The same goes for Braun and Safe Room, in which he is better than the finale, but definitely outdone by McFayden in the same scenes.
I wish Strong had gone…[Read more]
