He’s pulling an Adam Driver in terms of having an impressive streak of great films and filmmakers already.

Black Mass
Bridge of Spies
Hostiles
American Made
The Post
Game Night
Vice
The Irishman
I’m Thinking of Ending Things
Judas And The Black MessiahAnd the upcoming ones looks promising:

Killers of The Flower MoonThis guy is here to stay and he may end up being one of the best actors of this decade alongside Adam Driver and Daniel Kaluuya.

Looool, that’s pretty laughable considering it’s said by a Joker fan.
Joker is Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy for people who can’t read and want to think themselves as deep.

Anyway i read on IMBD that Portman, Cotillard, and Cruz were all considered until Gaga was cast. Talk about a dip in quality.

All these movies that have been mentioned (1917, etc..) are all accessible, basic, and crowdpleasing. That’s why they won awards at that moment of time, and that’s why now they’re also so forgettable and forgotten compared to more memorable and challenging films of the same year of release.

1. Lindo

2. Boseman
3. Ahmed
4. Hopkins

Exactly, unlike DiCaprio who’s nearly his same age, Cooper is not perceived as someone “overdue”, not even in the least.
That’s because lots of people think he didn’t even deserve some of the nominations he got in for (most notably American Hustle and American Sniper).

LDC instead was always considered as someone who was snubbed and should have been nominated way more times for other films and performances.
So industry folks won’t rush themselves to give Cooper other easy nominations or a win.February 23, 2021 at 1:58 pm #1204057339Actor:
1. Adam Driver (Annette)
2. Christian Bale (Amsterdam)

Actress:
1. Kirsten Dunst (The Power of The Dog)
2. Margot Robbie (Amsterdam)
3. Kristen Stewart (Spencer)

ReplyFebruary 23, 2021 at 3:26 am #1204055997I genuinely think Gucci will move to 2022 despite being ready, not because Scott already has The Last Duel this year, but because MGM has already a full plate for late 2021 with movies from the likes of George Miller and PTA, and also the Aretha biopic.
In other words, they don’t need it now for this year, MGM is already full.

February 22, 2021 at 1:03 pm #1204055001Why are you surprised ? 1917 is an action packed blockbuster. It will obviously have higher scores from the public.
You are right, it’s just a gimmicky and more crowdpleasing action war movie compared to the other auteur stuff.
February 22, 2021 at 10:55 am #1204054710Although loved by the acting branch, Three Billboards missed Director at the Oscar which doesn’t guarantee its runner-up status. Who knows maybe Dunkirk (which had a lot of technical noms) and Get Out (won Original Screenplay) might even be ahead of Three Billboards.
You could say the same thing about 1917 which last year completely lost Director and only won some technicals. Hell, at least Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Jojo Rabbit won respectively something substantial like Supporting Actor and Adapted Screenplay, and OUATIH was very likely the runner-up in Original Screenplay, and would have won if it wasn’t for Parasite.
ReplyFebruary 22, 2021 at 9:59 am #1204054503And fyi (also a proof of how weak this year is), here’s last year’s IMDb rating: 2020: 5/12 above 7.7 2019: 9/12 above 7.7 1. 8.6/ Parasite 2. 8.4/ Joker 3. 8.3/ 1917 4. 8.1/ Ford v Ferrari 5. 7.9/ Jojo Rabbit 5. 7.9/ Marriage Story 5. 7.9/ Irishman 5. 7.9/ Knives Out 9. 7.8/ Little Women 10. 7.6/ Once upon a time in Hollywood 11. 7.6/ The Two Popes
Really?? IMBD ratings don’t mean shit, even something like Endgame has 8,4.
Plus something like 1917 having an insanely high score like 8,3 and better and more memorable films such as Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, The Irishman and Marriage Story being lower is really all you need to know about that site and their users.February 22, 2021 at 9:48 am #1204054476Nobody really knows if Three Billboards was the runner-up that year.
I don’t like the movie, but it won Picture at the Globes and BAFTA, sadly it was the runner up.
ReplyFebruary 22, 2021 at 9:35 am #1204054446The Shape of Water and its runner-up in the Oscar race Three Billboards aged pretty badly compared to the other films of that same year, which are now more regarded and memorable, like Get Out, Lady Bird, Dunkirk, Phantom Thread, Call Me By Your Name, The Florida Project, even I, Tonya, etc…
