Today is March 20, so it is the first day of Daytime Emmy voting! If some judges are luking on this site, happy voting!
I wish Daytime did more FYC like the Primetime Emmys do, so we would have some sort idea who entered in the competition! Or even having precursors, like films/primetime tv, have the Golden Globes, Critics Choice, and SAG Awards, so we have a perspective who critics/people in the industry are eye-ing for.
I love the element of surprise, but there are sometime too many surprises on Emmy nominations announcement day! 🤣
ReplyMarch 16, 2023 at 7:46 pm #1205354886does anyone know who is eligible for younger actor/actress?
The category is gender-neutral so it is called Younger Performer, and this year, I believe the rule for eligibility is 18 and younger. I believe you mentioned Nicholas Chavez, in your post, and thus, he definitely aged out and had to either submit in Supporting or Lead.
ReplyMarch 16, 2023 at 7:20 pm #1205354841I would like to concur everyone above who are stating that Tanner Novlan is completely deserving of a nod. I believe he should and will recevie a nomination. He has given one of the best performances this past calendar year (2022) on Bold and Beautiful as well, as daytime in general, particularly his scenes, when Sheila was holding Finn hostage were noteworthy. Those scenes were phenomenal, and compelling and gravitating to watch. There were so many excellent acting choices, and he excelled in providing range of emotions; heartbreak, desperation, sadness, determination, and anger. He made everything thrown at him, work and he executed it all beautifully and powerfully. He more than deserves the nomination, and since, he was given much reel material to fill in the 15 minutes max., there is no doubt to me, that he will be receiving a nomination.
It would be interesting to see if Tanner submitted in Lead or Supporting. The material is lead, and he is paired with a leading lady in the form of Steffy/JMW, a nomination in that category would have merit. At the same time, due to Finn still being a two year character (Tanner joined the cast in 2020), and thus he still rather newer to the daytime world, I believe there are politics involved, where they encourage actors in that circumstance to submit in Supporting, while, the leading categories are more reserved for the veterans. It is the idea that you have to earned your stripes before you enter in lead. Nevertheless, I really hope he submitted, and gets his well-earned first Emmy nomination this upcoming April!
ReplyMarch 10, 2023 at 5:12 am #1205341274That Academy member was being blatantly racist and sexist in his rant about Viola and Danielle being shutout….
He also referred to Gina Prince-Bythewood as “the lady director”…..It is disgusting.
March 6, 2023 at 10:34 am #1205334833What so now it isn’t enough to have potentially 2 POC acting winners (Quan and Yeoh) and a primarily Asian film winning, we now have to have a black winner as well?
Why should we not have a black winner as well alongside two Asians? Why does it have to be either/or? Truly I don’t understand. We do not blink when there are four white acting winners (which has been a majority of the cases in the 95 year history of the Oscars), but suddenly, the desire for 3 POC acting winners is too much?
March 6, 2023 at 10:28 am #1205334817I didn’t know that was a requirement
I did not say it was requirement, but it is definitely nice to see POC being honored and celebrated, especially that is very rare for it to happen and they are not always given the opportunity due to this oppressive system. So it is disappointing that a Black woman who was originally thought as the frontrunner is now losing that status, and battling two white women (a system that always benefits them) for the win.
March 5, 2023 at 10:46 am #1205333144The fact that Angela Bassett did not take SAG is deeply upsetting. She should be running away with this award. It would have solidified her as the front runner in the race. She started so well with the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice, it was given that she would lose the BAFTA, but SAG was supposed to be a shoe-in!
If Bassett loses, there will be no Black winner in the acting quartet, (since Brian Tyree Henry is going to lose to Quan). It is ridiculous that there are only two Black nominees in all of the acting categories, and Bassett is hanging on by a thread in the winning discussion.
March 5, 2023 at 9:40 am #1205333077Early Predictions: 1. Fantasia Barrino, The Color Purple 2. Annette Bening, Nyad 3. Natalie Portman, May December 4. Saoirse Ronan, Blitz 5. Olivia Colman, Wicked Little Letters 6. Greta Lee, Past Lives 7. Emma Stone, Poor Things 8. Amy Adams, Nightbitch 9. Margot Robbie, Barbie 10. Kate Winslet, Lee Assuming Mulligan (Maestro), Gladstone and Pike are all supporting.
We can perhaps add Halle Bailey for The Little Mermaid? Rob Marshall is directing this one, and he was the one who directed Chicago, Nine, and Into the Woods which all received a bunch of Academy Awards love.
March 4, 2023 at 12:07 am #1205331406In case someone cares, Deadwyler won Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama at Satellite Awards. Yoeh won in Comedy.
So happy for Danielle Deadwyler! Glad she is getting some wins in spite of the way the award season treated her this year!
March 3, 2023 at 12:10 pm #1205330660Now that I’ve calm down and gathered myself, I am looking forward to seeing Andrea Riseborough in To Leslie. As a lover of performances, I hope she knocks it out of the park. My heart will always break for Deadwyler but I hope she gets more opportunities to showcase her talents.
The missing presence of Danielle Deadwyler in this category will ALWAYS leave a bad taste in my mouth this year.
Because if this was up to me? Deadwyler would be sweeping. She would have garnered the Golden Globe, SAG, BAFTA, and the Oscar.
March 1, 2023 at 2:01 am #1205327247We all know Michelle Williams is the weakest here. Which is unfortunate since her last nominations are astounding ( Manchester, Blue Valentine, Brokeback )
And it is category fraud. Williams would have probably swept up Supporting Actress if she had campaign there, and finally gotten her first Oscar win.
March 1, 2023 at 12:34 am #1205327198Can we all agree that Ana de Armas is such a weak link in these lineup of actresses, it was so embarrasing for the academy to snub Danielle Deadwyler. Even Riseborough was phenomenal, aside the weird campaign, i can admit it
Danielle Deadwyler losing the Oscar nomination, when this category should have been a three person race with Yeoh, Blanchett, and Deadwyler battling it out….I will never stop being aggravated.
February 28, 2023 at 3:56 pm #1205324781People arguing between Yeoh and Blanchett, and watch the Academy gagged all of us, and have neither take it and they go ahead and have either de Armas, Riseborough, or Williams take it 😭
And before the stans come at me, I am only joking (well half-joking, the Academy can pull a stunt like this).
February 27, 2023 at 3:19 pm #1205323292Can we talk about the palpable cheers and screams Danielle Deadwyler received when they got her clip? There is clearly so much love for her in the room. Her and Michelle got the loudest screams in this category😭
It makes me sad that Danielle did not get a single televised speech viewed by millions. I wish she had gotten Critics’ Choice, or even a Golden Glove nom/win or something. She would have gotten an immediate standing ovation, and gives the most thought provoking, and well articulated speeches. To go empty handed when she arguable gave one of the best lead performances this award season? Ugh. Will never stop being upset over her Oscar snub.
February 27, 2023 at 3:59 am #1205321817Do we think the Academy is finally ready to give another WOC the Oscar for Best Actress? I hope so, it has been over 20 years!
Michelle deserves this, and I hope she takes! There is clearly passion for her, but the way the Academy snubbed easily two Black Actresses who were predicted nominees in the form of Viola and Danielle. I do worry they will resort to Cate, rather than Michelle.
