Can anyone figure out how Schitt’s Creek managed nominations in Comedy Series, Actor and Actress, but NOT writing????
Did they submit too many scripts? I can’t remember. I’d love to see the show win a surprise Emmy this year, but it doesn’t seem likely. I do think it could take contemporary costumes though. Maybe actress if Rachel, Julia and Pho…[Read more]
Lizzo is going to be a big deal at the Grammys this year. The girl sings, raps, dances and plays the damn flute!!! She kills all of her performances and her single “Truth Hurts” continues to rise while her album comfortably sits in the Top 10 after 17 weeks on the chart.
I mean the fact that there have already been discussions/meetings to rul…[Read more]
The Morning Show trailer looked boring to me. It didn’t seem like a whole lot was going on, so I worry about the writing. The actors seemed fine, but of course, bc they are all great.
The Politician looked different from what I thought it was going to be. I thought it was going to go a more serious route, but it looks super campy… very Ryan M…[Read more]
I do hope that Taylor is snubbed in Country if she chooses to submit anything in this field. She hasn’t been Country in a hot minute. All of her music is very clearly pop and I think the Recording Academy will recognize that.
Who I do want to see nom’d this year:
Dan + Shay

All this Rashad vs Van Houten talk… watch Cicely Tyson come from behind and take the win! lol.
To be fair (and play Devil’s Advocate) Tyson is probably the most respected actress in the line-up along with Lange (true Hollywood icon and legend), the only other Academy Award nominee of the bunch, is on her 4th Guest Actress nomination for her s…[Read more]
I think this year’s Rap winners (as always) will be mainstream / Top40-crossover hip-hop artists. The rappers that are only dominating at streaming will not win, bc most of the Recording Academy will not have heard of them.
The winners will more than likely be chosen out of this lot depending on who scores a nom (for better or for worse): J. C…[Read more]
I need The 1975 to FINALLY breakthrough with some noms please and thank you!
Best Rock Performance: “Love It If We Made It”
Best Rock Song: “Love It If We Made It”
Best Alternative Album
…and then Album of the Year.
My only fear is that none of the songs on this album are super “rock” …they are more pop, electronic, jazz, alternative…[Read more]
I wouldn’t consider the TCA an indicator of who will win the Emmy. Critics and Emmy voters are two different groups of people.
I know there’s passion for both leading contenders, but I have a feeling there is slightly more for When They See Us, given the Actor love (when some arguably didn’t deserve noms). I do see Chernobyl winning more Emmys…[Read more]
I think some people are underestimating The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. It’s the defending champ and Season 2 was considered either consistent or better than Season 1.
Fun fact… Maisel is treating voters and Los Angeles residents to 1959 prices today at various establishments like 30 cent gas per gallon, $1 food, $2 manicures, $1 movie theatre t…[Read more]
I have to agree. She needed to follow up “Without Me” with a successful single or album, but didn’t. Given her Grammy past, I feel like it will be more of a surprise if somehow “without me” gets a nomination rather than a snub if it doesn’t.
Starting to think she may have a better shot at getting a nom with BTS for “Boy With Luv” …but i…[Read more]
1) Renee Zellweger – Judy (Comeback narrative + her trailer looked good)
2) Saoirse Ronan – Little Women (Oscar’s new sweetheart)
3) Cynthia Erivo – Harriet (Could win with importance of role, but that trailer looked bad)
4) Scarlett Johansson – Marriage Story (overdue to be nom’d)
5) Awkwafina – The Farewell (Great performance in…[Read more]
I love how mysterious this category is now. We literally have zero clue what direction the judging panel will go in, where as back in the day when the nominees were determined by popular vote, we’d pretty much know who was getting nom’d.
Beyoncé, Khalid, Solange, Chris Brown, Lizzo and Ella Mai (and maybe even H.E.R.) would have all been clos…[Read more]
I just watched Kathy Griffin: A Hell of A Story and was wondering if a comedy special-type film has ever been considered for the Best Documentary Award. The film is part doc/part comedy special, but is super political and has some powerful moments in it. I’m assuming its not eligible, but I was curious if by some chance it could be?? Or are there…[Read more]
The entertainment industry is in love with this artist and yes, because of her “it-girl” status, she is extremely likely to be nominated for all the top awards and has a fair chance at winning a couple.
You can choose to ignore the hype if you want to, but with big name industry artists like Paul McCartney, Thom Yorke and Dave Grohl as her…[Read more]
Voters might not go for Sandra Oh after all if they keep in mind the fact that she has a total of 4 nominations this year alone and can be honored elsewhere.
I still think she’s the frontrunner though and I don’t see how the thought of making her the first Asian-American actress to win wouldn’t cross voters’ minds. If she doesn’t win, I think L…[Read more]
Even if this is a “teen drama”, I think it’s important to remember that it is on HBO and will be campaigned heavily.
I’m confident HBO will be able to get Zendaya in Lead Actress, Directing, Cinematography, Editing and Music noms. Probably not Series given that they have Big Little Lies, Succession and Westworld to promote as well.
Jason Bateman is a movie star who has been in 7+ films that have each made over $100 million at the Box Office. That definitely makes him the most well-known in the line-up for Lead Actor in a Drama Series this year. If we’re going to compare “Oscar moments”, Jason Bateman was in a Best Picture nominee (Juno), where as Billy Porter just atten…[Read more]
I have to agree that there are ZERO locks this year for Album of the Year. It has been a relatively weak year dominated by music that has gone as fast as it has come.
Billie Eilish – critical and commercial success, but new artist.
Ariana Grande – snubbed last year, making it harder to be snubbed again this year, but you never…[Read more]
