Look, I’d love for Parasite to win Best Picture and that would be my personal winner, but is it really realistic that it’s going to win?? The Academy might have become more liberal the last couple of years but there are still many voters who lean towards the conservative, classical Hollywood side. They won’t want to give their top award to an ou…[Read more]
In terms of Succession not having its actors recognized a whole lot, i think that is simply explained by the fact that people in general are still discovering the show. The first season was quietly watched by some, but the 2nd season exploded with viewers, critics and buzz.
SAG has one of the largest voting bodies, so it makes sense that it…[Read more]
I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes however, after seeing the trailer for the rest of the season and realizing that this is going to go in a “sci-fi” direction, I think I will eventually be turned off from the series. Idk… we’ll see.
Seeing as how H.E.R. performed “Hard Place” at last year’s ceremony, this doesn’t seem like much of a credible source.
Also, Billboard wrote in an article (about the lawsuit) that Ariana was expected to perform “7 Rings” next Sunday.
I don’t think 1917 winning the PGA means it’s game over for Best Picture.
Saving Private Ryan won the PGA way back when and then lost the Oscar… just saying.
I do think 1917 has Director on lock though and could still get Picture… however… I’m still leaving towards predicting Hollywood for BP based on a preferential ballot and inevi…[Read more]
Current Week-a-Way Predix:
Billie will take home Best New Artist, Song of the Year and Pop Solo.
Vampire Weekend will take AOTY in a surprise.
Ariana will repeat in Pop Vocal Album.
Lizzo will rack up in R&B only (3 Grammys: R&B Performance, Traditional, Urban Cont. Album)
Lil Nas X will take home 2 Grammys: Record of the Year and music…[Read more]
I don’t think the corruption comes from the voting of the winners, but of the voting of the nominees. The winners are decided by a popular vote of the entire Recording Academy and those votes are tallied by a separate firm.
These anonymous “panels” that vote for the nominees don’t feel too legit anymore.
Without having heard a single note, the following will all be contenders for an Album of the Year nom:
Adele – 2 time AOTY winner. She can’t do wrong. Even if it sucks, it’ll prob be nom’d.
Rihanna – She would really have to disappoint hard not to get in. People are craving her comeback and Dancehall music is a great direction for her!
COMPANY would be really cool to see (and cheap to produce!). It’s songs have already helped Marriage Story to Oscar noms. Whoever gets to sing “Ladies Who Lunch” will probably be an automatic contender for Supporting Actress.
SPAMALOT could be epic and cinematic.
ONCE ON THIS ISLAND could be magical and done on a decent budget.
I’d be down…[Read more]
I’m fairly certain Lil Nas X, Vampire Weekend, Taylor Swift and BTS (highly rumored but I find strange if included) will be announced as performers soon.
Also, Blake Shelton being the only Country performer seems unlikely… shall we assume Scooter got another one of his acts Dan + Shay a spot??
I think Lewis Capaldi could be added too.…[Read more]
There is suppose to be a Nipsey Hussle tribute performance. Who will be part of that? Roddy Richh, DJ Khaled and John Legend?
Also what was up with the rumor Nas was performing. Like… why? Seems random if true… unless he too is part of a tribute.
I need more announcements lol. Hopefully tomorrow after today’s Oscar nominations news dies down.
Jonas Brothers have a new single being released this Friday, so expect them to have their debut performance of that on the telecast.
I agree that Picture isn’t 100% locked down… 1917 could still take it, but I still think with the preferential ballot that Once Upon A Time will take the win.
Director will go to Sam Mendes at this point. His film is too much of a technical directing achievement to be ignored. Tarentino should have a Directing Oscar by now, but I feel like w…[Read more]
The nominations this year make it seem pretty obvious as to who the winners are going to be. With only 3-4 weeks till the show, there isn’t much time for the race to really change course.
Once Upon A Time in Hollywood is taking home the Best Picture Oscar along with 3 other awards (Supporting, Screenplay, Production Design).
1917 will take h…[Read more]
I wonder if some of the Original Song contenders will refuse to perform at the Oscars because of some snubbing.
Elton John might say no because they ignored Taron.
Disney might say no to Idina performing because they snubbed Frozen II in Animated Feature.
I like Cynthia… she is a good actress even if I didn’t particularly like her film. Congrats on her 2 nominations.
I just think a lot of us were given false hope with Lupita’s critics awards and SAG nom. Once again, it was a horror film performance, so I knew it would never happen. As you can see, Willem Dafoe wasn’t nominated either. For the…[Read more]
I hope film critics look back at 2020 and become embarrassed that Joker lead the nominations at the Oscars. Todd Phillips over so many amazing female directors plus Pain & Glory or Jojo Rabbit or Ford v Ferrari. Yikes!
