24fanatic replied to the topic 2021 Grammy predictions: Album of the Year (Part 8) in the forum Music 6 hours, 24 minutes ago
Anyone we are all underestimating? I feel like I should be predicting someone like Megan Thee Stallion in Album of the Year after last year’s nom for Lil Nas X’s EP.
Lil Baby’s My Turn is still the #1 bestselling album of 2020 (as of this past week)… but most (including myself) are not predicting him.
After getting nonstop nominations/wins in…[Read more]

Run the Jewels isn’t happening.
Bad Bunny isn’t happening.
This isn’t the Music Critic’s Choice Awards. It’s the Grammys.

For sure. It all honestly depends on who scores the nomination.
Someone like Brittany Howard could definitely win if nominated. She ticks off a lot of boxes for voters this year. She’s respected within the Recording Academy as a previous Grammy winner, would have support from both the Rock and R&B genre voters and is a previous AOTY nominee…[Read more]

Top 20 Predicted Albums to be Voted on by Recording Academy for consideration for AOTY:
(alternate: Justin Bieber, Halsey or BTS)
Megan Thee Stallion
They are predictions. Honestly, both songs can fall off in downloads/streams after this weekend. We’ll have to wait and see how they play out.
There are other predictors on Twitter claiming “Positions” will easily get #1 with over 420 chart points, which I’m not buying.
If “Positions” and Luke Comb’s songs are really that close, I coul…[Read more]

I think H.E.R. has a big opportunity tonight to impress the Blue Ribbon Panel. I think if she performs “I Can’t Breathe” as one of her 2 songs on SNL, it will make for a powerful television moment and might make H.E.R. the frontrunner for Song of the Year and competitive for Record of the Year.
1) One Night in Miami – “Speak Now” (this song is really powerful!)
2) The Life Ahead – “lo si” (Diane Warren. Enough said)
3) Pixar’s Soul – “Parting Ways”
Pretty sure about those 3 standing an excellent shot at a nomination.
4) Eurovision Song Contest – “Husavik”
Based on the performances I have seen so far, I would rank:
1) Leslie Odom, Jr. – One Night in Miami
2) Bill Murray – On the Rocks
3) Yahya Abdul-Mateen II – The Trial of the Chicago 7
4) Mark Rylance – The Trial of the Chicago 7
5) Frank Langella – The Trial of the Chicago 7
6) Eli Goree – One Night in Miami
7) Chadwick Boseman – Da 5…[Read more]
24fanatic replied to the topic Should Best Original Song contenders be judged by Oscar telecast performances? in the forum Movies 6 days, 10 hours ago
No, lol. Life’s not fair. Most voters don’t even watch all the nominated films, let alone listen to all the nominated Original Songs. They vote based on their friends or buzz sometimes. It is what it is.
At least the music branch has a system of narrowing down the songs eligible and nominating ones they deem worthy.
Bill Murray was definitely good in On the Rocks and the highlight of the film. LOL at anyone saying otherwise. Voters will eat up his character (especially the older ones!). Personally, I would have loved just one more emotional scene to lock in a nom/win, but it is what it is.
The movie overall is just okay/decent/enjoyable enough, so that…[Read more]
Personally, I think it would be really cool if Luke Combs could take the #1 spot over Ari. It’s been a minute since we’ve had a Country #1 hit.
Ari will definitely have radio on her side with at least 20 mill+.
I don’t necessarily think she will have sales though… all her store is selling are $5 CD singles (which is expensive… compa…[Read more]
Agreed. The song sounds nice, but you can’t really understand what she’s singing. Hard to imagine the average listener being able to sing along to it, so it’s not as commercial as it could have been like “Thank U, Next.” I don’t see this single performing as well as her previous ones.

I’d argue that most Grammy voters don’t even know who Lil Baby is.
Just watched Minari. Steven Yeun’s role might be too limited to be competitive for a nomination in Lead Actor. I do think this would be the appropriate category for him to be placed in personally, but if he wants a better shot at scoring a nom, his people might want to campaign him for Supporting Actor. Minari is more of an ensemble film.

I just finished watching Minari via the Aspen Film Festival. Loved it, but I will be very surprised if the Academy embraces this type of film. It’s strange in that it very much feels like a small independent foreign language film, but it is produced by some major Hollywood players, like Brad Pitt. I’m conflicted. I can’t think of another film like…[Read more]
I wouldn’t sleep on the international icon Sophia Loren! That trailer today looked good. She is both a competitive and honorary Academy Award winner and this is very much a final opportunity to nominate a screen legend.
