I saw Ford v Ferrari last night. I’m not a sports or car person and the movie won me over. Definitely a contender for BP, Director, Writing… maybe Tracy Letts in Supporting. Bale has an outside shot at scoring a Lead nom (but that category is just so competitive!).
I have yet to see A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, but with every day that p…[Read more]

Umm… She did a whole TV special about the making of the soundtrack for The Lion King. I haven’t seen any other contender have that to their credit so far this Oscar season. Plus not all original songs get music videos released, let alone a big-budgeted one… “Spirit” did.

“Spirit” will likely not be nominated. It’s not very good or original. Despite a huge campaign it failed to gain any fans outside of the BeeHive.
After my initial listen to “Beautiful Ghosts” I think I like it, I was just thrown off a bit by Taylor’s vocal performance. No offense to her, but I would have liked for someone with better vocal chops…[Read more]
Unfortunately without a campaign and without the movie being released yet she doesn’t stand much of a chance at this point. Even if all the critics start backing her… there’s no buzz right now (or little compared to other contenders). If someone like Ethan Hawke couldn’t get in last year (with so many critics standing behind him) with a film…[Read more]

I felt the same way watching Jojo Rabbit. Taika was fine, but my eyes were on Sam. His character was hilarious and heartwarming and I thought to myself that voters would eat this performance up!

I have not seen Luce, but the film just seems too small to score an Oscar nomination. It didn’t do anything at Box Office and no one is talking about it (outside these forums). I’m sure Octavia Spencer is worthy, but she has missed out on a nom before for an independent film: Fruitville Station …and that film had a much bigger presence in its…[Read more]
The amount of people underestimating Awkwafina’s chances at scoring a nom is crazy to me. I think The Farewell is going to play big with Oscar voters… and already has with screenings.
I think she’s in and Renee (in the lead to win) is in.
2 out of these 3 (Charlize, Saoirse, Scarlet) will be nom’d and one will be snubbed.
Either Alfre Wooda…[Read more]
Trying to say Lizzo’s album doesn’t have commercial appeal is just plain false.
HitsDailyDouble just released a list of the Top Selling Albums (YTD) of 2019 and Lizzo came in at #15. 5 albums that placed above her are not eligible for this year’s Grammys, which means she has one of the Top 10 best selling eligible albums of the “Grammy year”.…[Read more]

I agree that Dafoe isn’t winning for this role. It’s too weird. However, voters do love him. I would have never imagined he would end up being nominated for Lead Actor last year for At Eternity’s Gate. I could barely get through that screener.
I think this category is wide open for most anyone to prevail. Brad’s in the lead for now, but one…[Read more]

For me, the line-up seems to solidly be:
I wouldn’t mind a shake-up, but these 5 all have a lot going for them to secure nominations. Its hard for me to see Cynthia Erivo breaking in now that I’ve seen Harriet.
Also, I’m sorry but Lupita is NOT getting in. There will be…[Read more]
Just came back from seeing Harriet…
I love Cynthia Erivo, but personally, I wouldn’t give her an Oscar nomination for this performance or film. She delivered a fine performance… there wasn’t anything wrong with it, but it didn’t go above and beyond. I don’t necessarily think it was her fault. The basic script didn’t give her enough “moments”.…[Read more]
Ariana’s hype has died down. Her Charlie’s Angel project seems to be a bust and isn’t keeping her heat in the race alive. She doesn’t stand a chance in any of the General Field categories.
Having said that, I think she is still competitive for wins in the Pop Solo and Pop Vocal Album categories. Personally, I don’t think she’s going to win eith…[Read more]

“Talk” (Khalid) seems like a solid frontrunner to win for R&B Song. Not sure about the performance category though… nor the album one.
Yes, the song will go to #1 this year. The power of streaming took it to a #3 peak last year (when it was projected to only go to #6 or #7). Streaming and it’s subscribers have only increased significantly within the past year.
Streaming plus the promotion of the song’s 25th anniversary by the label (including single sales merchandise) will car…[Read more]
In terms of being nominated, this looks spot-on to me. I do feel like it’s Alfre vs Saoirse vs Cynthia for the 5th nominee slot. I think Alfre Woodard will get the nomination if her film truly delivers (I’ll have to see it first to decide!).
I think Eddie Murphy’s chances of getting nominated have increased. The buzz is there and it’s the type of performance that will garner him #1 votes in the balloting… which should secure him a nom. I feel like Adam Driver and Joaquin Phoenix are in a similar position in terms of potentially getting #1 votes.
I can’t say the same for Rober…[Read more]
In terms of the winner for Best Picture, I would say the rankings (right now) would be:
1) Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
2) The Irishman
3) Marriage Story
4) Jojo Rabbit
I think Once Upon… still has the most going for it as of now to take BP. It’s a film by a respected director who has never won Best Picture or Director before (but has a s…[Read more]
Joaquin Phoenix will either win everything or nothing at all. He’ll have to sweep the critics, Globes and SAG to win the Oscar in my opinion. He might… but I have a feeling that even with the praise for his performance and all the money it has made, voters aren’t going to respond well. Voters don’t often go for villain roles and Joker is DEFIN…[Read more]
