One of the sad facts of this Emmy season is that Strahovski will be overlooked by her best THT season to date (IMO even better than her performance in season 2).

April 27, 2023 at 6:48 pm #1205413388Bringing this Better Call Saul information here, Vince Gilligan is the only one that directed two BCS episodes for the eligible season. I don’t know if the directors are going to submit for other show instead of BCS, but if I call it right BCS used to submit a lot of episodes for directing and writing, and I’m not going to be surprised if they submit 5/6 in directing and 6/6 in writing.
The question is, which episode do you think Vince Gilligan is going to submit? “Point and Shoot” or “Waterworks”? IMO he should submit the first.
April 27, 2023 at 6:48 am #1205412495That is actually so interesting! I wonder if they do a season on Abby? I just can’t imagine how they’ll do that considering how much hate there is for the second game. Wonder if they’ll change some things so that Abby is more liked.
Also makes me interested in its future awards presence since Ramsey and whoever plays Abby would probably be leads(though ofc this depends on how they play it out). Can’t wait for vote splitting talk if that does happen!
TBH, I think it’s impossible that they won’t kill Joel in the adaptation, specially if they want to explore events that would happen after the second game.
April 27, 2023 at 6:44 am #1205412490Haven’t started the second season yet, but this is the perfectly definition of category fraud.
April 25, 2023 at 10:04 am #1205409945I’ve finally watched Happening this weekend and Anna Mouglalis was amazing and should’ve been nominated at Cesars.
(IMO it should’ve been nominated at the Oscars, but we know that acting branch voters don’t read subtitles, so she would never had a chance there)
ReplyApril 25, 2023 at 9:51 am #1205409920Sharpe was the best male performer on Sicily, but I don’t think he deserves the nomination (and yes, he’s the hottest guy in TWL). I think the only male performer that was really bad was Woodall, the others just played what their characters should be (which is good).
In my opinion. Jennifer Coolidge is great in TWL, but nowhere near Sarah Snook and Rhea Seehorn. Sorry to say it.
After watching half of this current season, I think it’s safe to say that Snook, Strong and Culkin should be submitted in lead. IMO, if I could pick only one lead for this season so far, it should be Snook.
April 25, 2023 at 7:01 am #1205409656That is such a good point. Who even was the last coattail lead nom we saw at the Emmys? I can’t think of anyone immediately
#1: I’d say Zach Galifianakis for Baskets could be applied for this situation, one year after the Anderson win.
#2: I think she was more of a namecheck rather than a coattail situation, but maybe Niecy Nash helped Metcalf on her nomination for Getting On?
#3: Jane Fonda for Grace and Frankie and maybe Linda Cardellini for Dead to Me
April 25, 2023 at 6:51 am #1205409636Under the restricted ballot, passion and namechecking are the answer for the nominees this year. Abraham is in the top of half of the ballots, but I don’t now if he has enough passion to nominate him (will they namecheck him? maybe). Sure, he was nominated in guest for drama in the past, however guest categories are always a mess under any system.
I do really see a lot of passion for Braun* – I think hating him is more a GD thing. IMO, only Macfadyen is the only lock this year for supporting actor.
My NGNG pick this year is Whitford. I’m not predicting Moss this year and I don’t believe THT will go from 10 acting nominations in 2021 to zero this year, so I’m picking him. And I’m asking myself if we’re underestimating Samira Wiley again this year. I mean, even with the unlimited ballot the acting branch voted to nominate her over Dowd and Strahovski.
* sometimes I think that Braun would’ve been an Emmy winner by now had Succession been submitted in comedy instead of drama.
March 23, 2023 at 1:07 pm #1205361531Oh my god, Clayton Davis is predicting F. Murray Abraham to win supporting actor…
to be fair, I think he would win under the tape system.
March 21, 2023 at 11:41 am #1205358801My personal lineup for that year:
– Sienna Miller, The Loudest Voice
– T’Nia Miller, Years and Years
– Sarah Paulson, Mrs. America
– Jean Smart, Watchmen
– Emma Thompson, Years and Years
– Tracey Ullman, Mrs. AmericaAnd yet that just doesn’t even begin to convey how many deserving performances there were that went unrecognised that year. Ari Graynor! Hong Chau! Winona Ryder! Rose Byrne! Helen McRory! Aduba and Collette were very good and I’m glad they got recognised but it will never not disappoint me how many performances slipped under the radar that year in that category. Any of these 11 women could probably have been gunning for the win in my personal awards in any other year.
1. Hong Chau, “Watchmen”
2. Jean Smart, “Watchmen”
3. Toni Collette, “Unbelievable”
4. Emma Thompson, “Years and Years”
5. Sarah Paulson, “Mrs America”

ReplyMarch 8, 2023 at 4:49 am #1205337871Just to be sure, I’ve checked here and this is the first time since BAFTA started airing before the Oscars that BAFTA acting winners didn’t match at all with SAG winners.
