Their problem is not some actress missing out on nomination, its the well backed studio actress denied a spot.this doesn’t bode well with the power dynamics between studio system and actor branch.if an actor got in without the studio backing .it changes a lot rules.thats why they are unsettled.
Bingo. This is why they’re investigating, not because of “fairness”.

The title should have been “It’s not right but it’s okay (Thunderpuss remix)”.

And Scarjo being a double nominated icon.

March 19, 2022 at 7:59 am #1204859202Huns what a gimmick this is. Strange categories like Best Time Capsule (like seriously?). Best Buddy Picture? And what is it with just one broad TV Actor and TV Actress category? They gave Series the wins to Ted Lasso and Mare Of Easttown but didn’t even nominate Jason Sudeikis and Kate Winslet. And what is Tragedy Of Macbeth doing in Best Grownup Love Story lmao? And they gave the Supporting Actor win to Jared Leto for House Of Gucci but didn’t even nominate Lady Gaga.
P.S: (1) was nice to see DAME JUDI DENCH
(2) forgive my rant. I know these awards are for fun but still it was weird.I think the nominees are supposed to be over 50?

1.) Nicole Kidman – 23:30 (20.5%)
I didn’t realize it was THAT short.

March 15, 2022 at 9:16 am #1204851660For Nicole Kidman case
Kidman prosthetic look really affected her “emotional” moment, although still we can see how great she was just watching her gesture in this movie, sign of great acting skill..
If you get over the inconsistent makeup, this is one of her best performances. She’s playing against type and she’s doing good accent work (which hasn’t been the case for her in the last year, let’s be honest). I think only Nicole Kidman fans can appreciate this performance to its full extent since they are able to see how hard she’s working here. It’s also important to note that the performance is pretty subtle despite this being a transformative role.

March 14, 2022 at 9:16 am #1204849690This is what happens when you award people other than the ones you’ve been hyping up all season, you lose credibility even in the eyes of the critics themselves
The thing is we all knew they’d do that. We all knew these people were going to be pundits in the end. This is an award that only confirms your frontrunner status. It does nothing else.
I’m betting on J.C. because she has proved she can win with a big voting body like SAG, not because she won Critics Choice.Pantheon of acting: Uta / Elizabeth / Richard / Sandy (Virginia Woolf), Bibi / Liv (Persona), Sandrine (La Ceremonie), Brie (Short Term 12), Jodie (Silence of the Lambs), Jodie (Killing Eve), Nicole (The Others), Eva (Penny Dreadful), Timothée (CMBYN), Lupita (Us)
March 10, 2022 at 10:44 pm #1204840687I think her dress was a resemblance of the latest events in Ukraine, she was wearing a black dress with a white knot (representing a glimpse of peace), and low key on accessories and hair because of the turmoil at the other side of the world.
I think it was an old Lucille dress.

Such disservice to talent of Kidman and story of Lucille Ball. The film was boring but the screenplay did nothing to make me feel either for Lucille or Desi. I am not familiar with the personality but was she so stoic and cold in really life as well? I understand it was set in professional setup but her whole personality in film was ‘girl boss.’ You can’t just have that as a character trait. She deserves the nomination and Kidman did the best with what she had but I felt nothing for her performance (especially since she has delivered stellar pieces in past and her caliber as an actor is well known) I also do wonder if her performance would have been 10x more applaud-worthy if she wasn’t subjected to stifling prosthetic. I wonder why Javier Bardem wasn’t subjected to the same?!
The performance shone through in the end for me but mostly in the moments with decent makeup. It can make a world of difference. Nicole is a very subtle actress and you can’t send her our there in elaborate or busted makeup.
I thought the Oscar nominations for BtR were accurate since the acting was its strongest point. Maybe I would have put Nina Arianda in instead of Javier. The script was good enough because it’s still Sorkin but not nomination worthy. The makeup and BP snubs were appropriate.

February 28, 2022 at 6:49 am #1204823788I’m kinda at peace if Nicole doesn’t win because it’s better off that she doesn’t get dragged from left to right. It’s ok to not like her performance but it’s uncalled for that you have to attack her looks personally. This guy just did it but deleted his comments. Well off to work.
I agree. I’m fine with the nomination considering the casting debacle. She did way better than I was expecting. Admittedly, the movie isn’t perfect and that might have turned some people off. But I legitimately think this is probably her most challenging role. She’s playing against type and she does it successfully in the end. There’s a mix of different qualities and dimensions to this performance and I actually bought it.
I was skeptical. I saw this as a step back in her career. But it opens a whole new slew of possibilities role-wise.

February 28, 2022 at 3:13 am #1204823518I feel like the makeup nom really helps Jessica while snub kinda hurts Nicole. The makeup was a sore spot in BtR for me to the point that it detracted from the performance. Which is a shame since I really vibed with the actual performance, especially in the second part of the movie.

February 27, 2022 at 11:12 pm #1204823143I feel like the media narrative going forward will be Chastain v. Stewart. I can see the reasoning, but I don’t buy it yet.
Nicole could pull of an upset at the Oscars, but I don’t see that either. It was always her v. Chastain at SAG because they were the actors’ favorites. Now it seems like Chastain will receive more votes from the acting branch. It remains to be seen whether the other branches will support her but I think her core support will be enough for the win. Maybe…

February 26, 2022 at 3:45 pm #1204818882I’m watching Being the Ricardos. I don’t want to hear anyone saying anything about Nicole in this role. She’s luminous here. She nails it hard most of the time. I had doubts about this being an Oscar winning part considering the whole pundit discourse but I can see it now. She can definitely win for this.
That said, I stand by my opinion that the makeup is inconsistent. It’s great at times but in some other particular scenes… Girl. I can see why the makeup got snubbed at the Oscars. It’s very questionable in the final scene which should be the most important one. Or it might be the lighting. I don’t know.
