It’s crazy how Ma Rainey has a chance of winning more Oscars than the eventual Best Picture winner.
Nomadland has the potential to win 4 though: BP, Director, Adapted Screenplay and Cinematography, and even has a chance for Actress and Film Editing. I am not as convinced as others that MRBB will win both Makeup/Hairstyling and Costume Design, although it is competitive for both awards – so they could potentially both get 4 Oscars each…April 16, 2021 at 12:26 pm #1204204201
I was hoping for an exciting cliffhanger today but Alexis’s scene in prison didn’t deliver anything much imo. They also didn’t give us any new information about how Chase is doing ):
As for Nina: it seems to me she would be better off having let Michael know where his “father” (sic) is since she wants to be in his good graces where Wiley is concerned. It’s clear that “Mike” and Nina will fall in love – and in a hurry, since they aren’t going to drag this out for too long.
Oh no: I have the feeling Cyrus is going to become obsessed with Anna ): Haven’t we been down this road before???
O.K., off topic – they are going to erase old threads on here – does anyone know how we can go about saving at least the Goldies threads and honestly I would love to save as many of the daytime Emmys threads too??? I have no idea how to save them or archive them???April 16, 2021 at 12:19 pm #1204204192
There are definitely several threads in the daytime TV section I would want to save – the ones with the history of the Goldies awards in particular – but I have no idea how to go about it??? Is there an archive option???April 16, 2021 at 12:14 pm #1204204181
Is Sundance doing their annual Close-Up (The Hollywood Reporter) roundtable discussions with actors, actresses, directors, writers and producers this year? Or has the pandemic put a kibosh on it??? I would love a roundtable with as many of the 10 actresses nominated this year as possible!!!April 16, 2021 at 12:08 pm #1204204165
If Bakalova, Close or Seyfried wins I will be so disappointed – my hopes are up for a Youn victory. But I personally would vote for Colman! So if Youn loses let it be to OC!!! I’m guessing this category will be fairly early, maybe even first of the night, and it would be a great way to start if all goes the way most of us think it will!!!!April 16, 2021 at 12:05 pm #1204204157
I really liked the scenes between Tripp and Allie today and that Allie is thinking about her future but factoring in Henry. Nice chemistry between Lucas and Lindsay too – but what was up with that look of disdain on Roman’s face???
O.K., someone on a chat board had speculated they thought that Jan had slipped out of the hospital (before it was official that she was out of her coma) and killed Charlie. I had a feeling that what John would see when hypnotized is Belle at Charlie’s but as we only see the coat we don’t know who is wearing it – someone had mentioned that Nicole has a similar coat too. I think there is more to it; we were told that one suspect would be eliminated each week and I think next week will be Belle’s turn…April 16, 2021 at 9:19 am #1204203771
Maybe it was Rafe and not Raul? It was 10 years ago or so! I was friends at the time with Thom Bierdz, who played Philip, and he was hoping he would have a romantic storyline with the gay lawyer (Rafe or Raul?). You are right: David Lago’s character was named Raul but I guess there could have been two characters with the same name as Lago was gone by then for 6 years…April 16, 2021 at 7:30 am #1204203609
^His name was Raul. It was when Michael Muhney came on to the show – the actor who had played Adam briefly (the blond Adam) before that got fired because he had refused to play the gay scenes and btw there was an “afterglow” scene with them in bed together – but then they dropped it immediately.April 16, 2021 at 7:28 am #1204203605
^Yes, I agree. and on nominations day my disappointment in particular performers not being nominated is tempered by the fact that I do not know if they submitted or not. I could see why certain actors who have done Emmy worthy work and haven’t been nominated for it when other performers practically get an automatic nomination no matter what they do would be discouraging and they would decide not to submit for consideration – and then others simply don’t believe in the competition aspect of it. It’s also the case that there are for more than just one performer who deserves to win, which is why I get upset when inferior nominees happen (at least they are inferior imo).
I am glad that the old system where name recognition got a certain actress 21 nominations is gone though. I liked when they would submit 2 or 3 performers from each category from each show but I do recognize that jealousy happened (correct me if I am wrong, but wasn’t that Victoria Rowell’s issue? She was being bypassed in favor of Michelle Stafford???), but it seemed sensible for an in-house vote to happen based on the whole year’s work rather than just submitting a strong Emmy reel regardless if that was your only worthwhile work during the calendar year (Drew Tyler Bell won imo due to one strong episode in this fashion).April 16, 2021 at 7:12 am #1204203586
I feel much more comfortable predicting Hopkins for the Oscar now. The BAFTA win is huge for Hopkins. Boseman was declared the frontrunner before any voters even saw Hopkins’ performance and stayed there until BAFTA. In other words, the voters are being told to vote for Boseman. Hopkins and the Father are gaining momentum at the right time when the voters actually saw the performance. His performance is gonna age like wine because dementia is an timeless issue and many people get a parent or two with dementia (like Jodie Foster said to Hopkins in interview). Voters will connect with his performance more than Boseman’s. And we don’t need to mention about the Father’s overall strength in Oscar nomination anymore. All Best Actor winning performance comes from a BP nominee since the expansion of BP category.
Hopkins is no longer a NGNG prediction. He is very likely the Olivia Colman and the Marion Cotillard.
I so want you to be right about this! But I am still predicting Boseman – the narrative is too strong and there is a herd mentality among a majority of academy members – they do as they are told and they have been told they must vote for the dead guy. I would cast my vote for Riz Ahmed but Anthony Hopkins would be a superb choice too!!!!
I wonder if an ordinals system were used in the voting if the results would be really different? I think voters would be more honest by simply doing a 1-5 vote and a more accurate winner would happen (and very different winners I strongly suspect!)April 15, 2021 at 2:22 pm #1204202797

Melissa Clare Egan has announced her real life pregnancy and that she will be leaving for maternity leave eventually – it will be interesting to see how that plays out story-wise.
Generally I liked today’s episode. I am glad that Rey is saying he’s leaving – he clearly doesn’t trust Sharon and the relationship simply isn’t working. But he said he would stay for a bit for Faith, which is interesting. Meanwhile Adam is saying he’s leaving to hide out at a farm and has a plan (and also is planning on taking Connor with him!) – I wonder if Sharon will join him??? I doubt it because she can’t really leave Faith at the moment but it is what went through my mind.
I am glad that Rey is at least thinking that Adam and Sharon’s theory about Chelsea could be true. and also that Chloe has left Chelsea to go home!!!! I feel bad for Chloe, since attempted murder wasn’t the plan as far as she was concerned!April 15, 2021 at 12:35 pm #1204202598
