Is “Bacurau” eligible to be submitted this year by Brazil? I have heard a lot of buzz about that film.
Also if “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” was submitted this year it would have a chance at not only International film but some above the line nominations.August 11, 2020 at 8:42 pm #1203641068

I don’t know about the diversity issue but no one who has watched the past two seasons of Killing Eve can say these are the best writers for the job.May 31, 2020 at 7:36 pm #1203510850
I agree with previous posters that this season has been underwhelming. There has also been very little story development. The Kenny death storyline in particular has been extremely disappointing.
But something I noticed is that the writers are trying to include lgbt characters in a very forced way. Felix mentioned a “boyfriend” and Paul mentioned a “husband” and the reveal is done in such a way where the only reason is to tell the audience “hey this character is gay.” Both characters were underdeveloped and ultimately killed off.
I am sure the writers are praising themselves thinking they did a good job having diversity but ultimately I think this was a rather poor effort to do so.
Infact it almost comes across as “bury your gays” stereotype as the characters’ sexuality were revealed in very hamfisted ways, we learned nothing about them aside from that and then the characters were simply killed off.
I might be nitpicking but it was just something that stood out to me this season.
