Exactly, imagine doing a album about feminism, Racism and Something so personal as a broked marriage but most of the Songs were made by White dudes
One cannot but only feels that there’s Something very wrong there
If you actually look at Lemonade’s writers, you would see that a large majority of the white men are from samples. More than half of the actual writers on the album are POC.August 24, 2019 at 7:30 pm #1203038388
I don’t know if she still does it, but back then yea… She was like Ariana is now with her claiming that she writes her songs lmao
That article reeks of ignorance:
He’s the go-to guy when you need to sample something obscure because you can’t write your own music.
What a joke.August 24, 2019 at 4:06 pm #1203038168
Well but Beyoncé’s defeats also made sense (talking about your coment on being overdue back there) Beck was always a very respect artist with an extremely strong name and he released an album where he did everything by himself, his victory was not unfair or can be called meaningless, the same with Adele and 25, we know it is a 21 2.0 but it was an extremely successful album that year, not to mention it is Adele, and I think the controversies over plagiarism and Beyoncé crediting herself with writing on songs that are the same as the original demos were a big drawback for the Lemonade
Lemonade didn’t have that plagiarism controversy though. I Am… Sasha Fierce is her album with the most “suspect” writing credits (see “Smash Into You”) but it won her her most Grammys, and ironically a SOTY award.
Lady Gaga unarguably deserved AOTY for The Fame. Not only was it the best album, out of all the nominees, but it made the biggest impact and shaped the early 10s pop music scene. Its loss can easily be explained though.August 23, 2019 at 9:29 pm #1203037064
I honestly didn’t know what I expected coming into the album. “ME!” and “You Need To Calm Down” were the definition of lacklustre, but I loved “Lover” and it’s creeping to be one of my all-time faves by her. On my first listen of the album I found it pretty boring and plagued with fillers, but I must say, it’s a grower. There are some obvious fillers, but also many standout tracks. The length of the album is a problem though. It could’ve been cut to 15 songs.
My main issue with the album is that Taylor took the major critics and music listeners opinion that ‘reputation’ was too dark and plain bad, then tried to re-create her “old” sound. Many songs were uninspired, formulaic and off as forced.
Overall, it’s a decent album. I’d give it a 7.3/10. Unlike seemingly everyone here, I actually find ‘reputation’ her best album, so ‘Lover’ is a decline to me.August 21, 2019 at 2:00 pm #1203033796
I read somewhere JayZ is gonna perform at the Superbowl.
No. Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation will be co-producing the Halftime show, and picking the performer. It’s obvious it will be a Roc Nation artist. Rihanna is likely as she will probably have a new era and album out by February.August 20, 2019 at 5:43 pm #1203032534
Not sure what metric you are using to quantify this statement when the soundtrack and its songs are still selling and streaming well.
Also not sure why you’re acting like the movie was released 5 years ago.
The album performed exceptionally well at the start of the year, but its currently #47. That’s below last year’s AOTY nominees of Scorpion, beerbongs & bentley’s, and Invasion of Privacy.
The hype I am talking about is during last year’s voting period ASIB was still playing in theatres, still getting major acclaim, still had constant media promotion, and still had an ongoing word of mouth. There’s none of that now.
That is hype being gone.August 20, 2019 at 4:54 pm #1203032461
What voters made clear last year, is there are artists they like a lot more than Ariana, Camila, Shawn Mendes etc… and they would rather see those artists win over them, however weak the submission may be.
I don’t agree with this at all. Voters could have simply preferred Joanne over the other nominated hits.
You’re acting like Gaga is now all of a sudden a Grammy darling due to her unexpected win in Pop Solo. Doing well at the Grammys for 1 year is not automatic Grammy darling status. Or we would have to consider Childish Gambino as a Grammy darling now for his wins last year.
I agree with Boz, ASIB had so much hype last year, that hype is gone.
I think the album might be able to be nominated in AOTY, if the committee wants it to, and if it is, it’s my frontrunner to win. However, that will not translate to the album tracks, which were simply not big hits in addition to the momentum being lost, being shown that undeniable love as you claim.August 20, 2019 at 12:41 pm #1203032090
Current Trap/Rap domination>> Early 2010s Bubblegum/Dance Pop dominationAugust 19, 2019 at 4:20 pm #1203030728
Señorita is hiting #1 eventually Its definetly going to be a contender on pop duo, the song is smashing, people Love it and have 2 of this year Grammy nominated artists It’s going to be the GLY from this year
It’s performing exceptionally well on radio callouts. All demographics are loving the song. I think it’s not only going to be a contender for a win in Pop Duo, but also in ROTY. It’s far more appealing (and about to be more successful) than Bad Guy.August 19, 2019 at 1:27 pm #1203030447
Well, that was unexpected.
Bad Guy has been one of my favourite songs of the year, so it’s totally deserved. I’m a bit mad that the longest weeks at #2 without reaching #1 record won’t be broken though, lol.August 19, 2019 at 8:03 am #1203029947
Red getting a 9.0? The highs are really high, but those lows are just terrible. Reputation deserved.
Also, extremely petty of them to have Reputation be her lowest album by just 0.2, so they can have a narrative of her having a strong decline.August 18, 2019 at 9:30 am #1203028811
Bad Guy won’t go #1 this week. I don’t mind as that means it will tie, and potentially beat the record for most weeks at #2 without reaching #1. I’ve always wanted someone to break it.
Señorita is definitely going to go #1 for the next tracking week. It just passed Bad Guy and Truth Hurts on radio, and its still gaining. Love that for them!August 18, 2019 at 8:09 am #1203028709
It’s complex to determine the “bigger” album for Billie vs. Ariana. If we are talking units moved after the album was released (which is what Billboard tracks on Year-End lists) then Billie’s is bigger.
However, if we are talking the album’s total units (which is what RIAA tracks on certifications) then Ariana’s wins due to pre-album success of “thank u, next” and “7 rings”.
