Finally finished- just going to kind of word dump my general thoughts, but I kind of wish I would have commented by episode. Overall I think this is my favorite season so far, partially due to the more recent subject matter and the faster pacing. I think Olivia was much better this season and really settled into the role. It’s really unfortunate…[Read more]

Agreed not overdue- I was going to say maybe a “comeback” narrative instead of “overdue,” because she hasn’t fully been in the awards conversation for some time, but she has been delivering consistent and impressive work since The X-Files so not sure if that narrative works either. Regardless, I really do hope she’s fully in the conversation for…[Read more]

Agreed, but I also think this was one of those instances where she almost had the Oscar from the moment festival buzz started and even once the movie came out and people saw the performance the narrative was already there. There was all those articles “she has a scene-stealing monologue” and “she got a standing ovation,” etc.
I don’t think she…[Read more]

DrewN92 replied to the topic Rank the Supporting Actress Nominees Who Didn't Win (2010s) in the forum Movies 3 months, 3 weeks ago
I choose Laurie Metcalf. I’ve seen her on stage multiple times where she is “home” and in her element and it was transcendental, but her in Lady Bird is something I’ve never really seen from her before. She really made you feel for a character that easily could be unlikeable, and I also thought her performance was really relatable- as someone who…[Read more]

I truthfully don’t see Hudson winning her 2nd Oscar out of 2 nominations for playing a role that doesn’t seem very much a stretch for her, ie her heavily relying on her vocal chops again. She’s an amazing vocalist but I don’t think her Oscar win has aged super well, at least among pundits, and maybe this is too niche but I do feel like her missing…[Read more]

I’ve rewatched Lady Bird twice since this Oscar season and I completely agree. It’s the definition of what a supporting role and performance should be. Definitely one of my all time favorites.

DrewN92 replied to the topic “Ammonite” (Lesbian Drama/Kate Winslet/Saoirse Ronan) in the forum Movies 4 months, 1 week ago
While I’m excited for this movie, I can’t help but be bothered by Winslet’s timely apology. It comes across as disingenuous. And I love Ronan but I agree she shouldn’t win until she is undeniable and I’ll be surprised if this movie is that vehicle for her.

DrewN92 replied to the topic Re-do : Which Recent Emmy Winning Actress is the Most Likely to Win S. Actress? in the forum Movies 4 months, 1 week ago
From this poll I would say Elisabeth Moss. Not included in this is Michelle Williams (likely because she doesn’t have a confirmed upcoming movie putting her in serious contention), but I think her clean sweep for Fosse/Verdon and her “overdue narrative” will put her in serious conversations next time she has the right role.

DrewN92 replied to the topic Who Would You Vote For To Win Drama S. Actress 2020? in the forum Television 6 months, 1 week ago
I would personally vote Dern. She stole every scene she was in- from over the top hilarious moments to her quiet moment with Amabella. But I’d also love Bonham Carter to (deservedly) win.

Really disappointed at Unorthodox’s shut out at TCA. I think Haas is just as deserving as most of the locks in this category, but I am going with Dever and Witherspoon to round out my 5 (assuming Blanchett, King, and Wever are locks). I think Unbelievable will have a strong showing and while I originally thought Dever could miss, her TCA…[Read more]

While Haas carries the show without a doubt, the only other person I would nominate would be Rahav. I know it’s easy to get carried away with Twitter world vs reality, but Twitter seemed to really fall for Rahav so maybe not on GD, but there does seem to be a consensus somewhere that he was amazing. I think he could easily be one of those surprise…[Read more]

DrewN92 replied to the topic Emmys 2020: ceremony or no ceremony? in the forum Television 7 months, 1 week ago
I think it will go virtual. As hopeful as we are all trying to be right now, cases are spiking in 21+ states that reopened a few weeks ago and experts are already predicting a second shutdown that could be worse than the first. Whether this happens or not I don’t see there being anything other than either a virtual ceremony or simply an announcing…[Read more]
