I think he’s a good actor who is good at picking projects, but I do find him very overrated.
I saw him on Broadway and he was great, but I feel his acting style is kind of always the same. He’s good at having explosive moments that seem quite baity, but to me he’s always kind of playing a bit of himself. To me, he doesn’t seem to have the range o…[Read more]

As someone who has personally met her many times, she is truly just a shy person who doesn’t want to be in the limelight. It irks me that people (not you!) don’t seem to care for her because she’s not on social media and likes the quiet life, aka “seems boring.”
I guess I am a bit biased because of my experience with her, but it really makes me…[Read more]

As someone who is a huge Gaga fan and was rooting for her, I did think her being OTT in interviews was a bit cringey even for me and feel it could have hurt her in the end.
The difference is that Kristen **seems** to be more “down to earth,” even if at the end of the day she is campaigning.
Regardless I love both of their performances, but I…[Read more]

Sometimes over campaigning can be a bit damaging, though. One could say Gaga was snubbed because people thought she was the biggest lock and they chose their passion picks, or maybe her constant campaigning rubbed people the wrong way. I am a huge Gaga fan (music and acting), and thought she was deserving of a nomination for House of Gucci, but…[Read more]

I would support any of these! I am excited for next season. And it will be a nice Certain Woman reunion for Lily and Michelle. 🙂

Has anyone really heard any details about William’s role in The Fabelmans? I feel like as this would be her 5th nomination, and coming off of her Fosse/Verdon clean sweep, I could see such a clear narrative for her if the role is meaty enough. She is really good at picking projects, and I can’t imagine Spielberg not giving her much to do if the…[Read more]

After listening to a podcast interview with Troy, and watching his acceptance speech, I really would love for him to win. He has already expressed that he doesn’t think he will ever have a role like this again, and I think it would help boost his career a bit more. Even with this “narrative,” he really does have the performance and it is a perfect…[Read more]

It’s a combination of her being beloved/a veteran which they love in this category, her being an AMPAS Governor/Trustee ie visibility, early festival buzz (she got standing ovations after her “scene” which got all of the pundits talking), it being an obvious place to award Marriage Story which was a BP contender, etc. Not to mention she was r…[Read more]

I really love Gaga and thought she would be a deserving nominee, but coming for Cruz makes no sense. Just because Parallel Mothers wasn’t Spain’s submission does not make it obscure, it’s still an Almodovar film starring an Oscar winner. We all know Sony knows how to run a late campaign (The Father), so it shouldn’t be that big of a surprise. I…[Read more]

DeBose was great, very worthy of a nomination, but something about it doesn’t feel win-worthy to me. Not that all wins are necessarily worthy, especially in this category, but I would love to see Negga win.

LADY GAGA
NICOLE KIDMAN
OLIVIA COLMAN
ALANA HAIM
JESSICA CHASTAINThis feels like the most secure top 5. Any number of these could easily be snubbed for the likes of Stewart, Cruz, Zegler, Hudson, Thompson, but as there sometimes seem to be an obvious answer of 1) who is to be snubbed and 2) who will take her place, I am locking in this top 5.…[Read more]

I don’t think predicting Faist is as out there as people are making it out to be. He is my personal favorite in this category, but even that aside this category is still very much up in the air. The only “locks” seem to be Smit-McPhee, Kotsur, and Hinds. Faist might have not hit any major precursor before BAFTA, but he does seem to have a lot o…[Read more]

Really hoping for Negga. Passing performed well with BAFTA, fingers crossed it helps give them momentum. Balfe was the standout from Belfast, but Negga is much more deserving in my opinion.

I just rewatched Passing last night and I’m still so surprised Negga isn’t sweeping. I think her biggest hurdle could be the nomination, but could maybe see her surprising. Her performance seems to have a lot of passion.

I finally got around to watching Belfast, to be honest it wasn’t one I was particularly excited to watch. I enjoyed it enough, but really don’t think Hinds or especially Dornan are deserving of a nomination. Hinds was really great but still somewhat forgettable due to such limited screentime. Dornan, while extremely hot, was just fine. Another act…[Read more]
