Because they got the ensemble nomination, they weren’t elegible for the individual acting categories.

The rules is having enough creative or production elements from the US. Unorthodox was *created* by an american and it’s a show co-set in America. How’s that confusing in any way?

You have to be careful here. Netflix is an international company, which means not everything they produce is american. In Unorthodox’s case, Netflix did not produced it, they only distributed it. The two companies that produced the show were Studio Airlift and Real Film Berlin, both german companies. What, however, made Unorthodox elegible was the amount of american talent behind it, as you said, the creator of the series in american and the show is largely set in the US.

Here’s one of the eligibility criterias:

“Significant creative and/or production elements from the United States.”

It’s eligible for Britsh Film at the BAFTAs, so there’s a possibility it wasn’t 100% eligible. So we don’t know. AFI isn’t reliable 100% anyway.

It’s elegible for British Film cuz its director and main star are british, they have different rules.

The film itself is not british since it was completely produced in America. Again, it was 100% elegible here.

Alright. Let me fix that quickly.

Also fix I May Destroy You.

By the way, I wonder if I May Destroy You can get the Special Award over Schitt’s Creek. Or maybe both get honored.

Both Chernobyl and The Crown are British-American co-productions. I May Destroy You is only a british production. I don’t think it’s elegible here.

Isabelle Huppert didn’t win with a foreign film? They changed the rules?

The writer of Elle is american. They have some rules which indicate what’s foreign and what’s not, it’s on their website. If the movie has an american writer or director they consider it to be american as well.

Only in the Best International Feature category. Only american movies are elegible in the other categories.

Dalenogare did a video about Malcolm & Marie and I’d love to watch it and hear his two cents since he seems rather credible, but I cannot speak nor understand Portuguese; could I be so forward as to ask any Portuguese-speaking users on here to watch the video and come back with his thoughts? I’m really interested to hear what he thinks, as it’s one of my most anticipated films of the awards season and it seems to be rather divisive if today’s reviews are indicative of anything.

Open the video, click in subtitles/CC, then “Portuguese”, then it’s gonna appear to you the option “Translate automatically”, click in it and chose the language you want the subtitles to be translated to.
