Midnights is musically underwhelming to say the least just like Lover, Antihero could be a “hit”, but the song will be such a filler in everything it gets nominated. I’m really glad the grammys seem to have moved on from awarding the same people over and over again, I would prefer overlooked veterans or popular artists that don’t make music for awards getting recognize in the GF instead of hacks.
February 6, 2023 at 4:14 pm #1205294897Beyonce’s nom in Best Dance/Electronic Album felt so out of place among the other nominees when they were being announced on the main telecast. That album belongs in Best Progressive R&B Album, what was exactly the point of moving it to another field?
February 6, 2023 at 4:05 pm #1205294885Bonnie owns the Americana categories, she has already beaten AOTY and ROTY nominees there. The fact is Americana voters don’t care that much for Brandi if Bonnie is there. Ms Raitt has been in the game for decades, a legend.
ReplyFebruary 6, 2023 at 3:43 pm #1205294847Yeah, 10 nominees spread the votes way too much when there is not a clear frontrunner. Harry won mainly with the support of engineers and mixers who really liked his album, because it’s rare for a pop album to be nominated, let alone win in Best Enginereed Album, you can add the votes he could get for himself and then you have it.
MJB nominations were mainly due to the people credited, a lot of R&B well-connected people, just check the list for AOTY. Also, as I said, we should not underestimate the members that are engineers, probably behind one artist there are five engineers voting members.

Robert Glasper’s album was nominated in Engineered Album too, which I guess it helped in Best R&B album, it’s a better produced record.
This remains me of the year Thundercat beat AOTY nominee Jhené Aiko and Ungodly Hour in Best Progressive R&B Album. The album for itself gave Flying Lotus a Producer of The Year nom.February 6, 2023 at 9:48 am #1205294249Ruben Blades has so much power on the latin categories at the Grammys.

Is there a way to change the title of this thread from 24rd to 24th. It’s distracting.February 6, 2023 at 9:45 am #1205294233The 33% limit definitely upset a lot of people in the industry, because engineers and mixers were being left out, even though they worked on the album. Imagine you colaborated 20% or 25% which could be three or four songs on an album and they don’t consider you as nominee. Everyone wants to be nominated, but the problem I think is the people like featured artists or other professionals who collaborated the less getting in for just one song in the album for example.
I think they will leave it just the way it is now, without the 33%, it shows how many people collaborated. For example, why is there the need of hiding that Beyoncé needed an army to make Renaissance?
February 5, 2023 at 10:24 pm #1205293411Record of The Year remains the most respected grammy category, like all the winners have been decent at minimum, the less controversial, the less racist, some really great winners, that reflect the respective year in most cases.
ReplyFebruary 5, 2023 at 10:10 pm #120529337930 is just her fourth album, she will have many tries to sweep again, which makes me think if she even cares that the grammys move on from her. I guess this was a lesson for her lazy ass to better her music next time or release more often.
ReplyFebruary 5, 2023 at 9:33 pm #1205293257I mean, an R&B album won Album of the Year last year and an R&B song won Song of the Year the year before,
Those works are better influenced in funk, jazz and other traditional genres, also they’re mostly original pieces of works. I think the recording academy despises the heavily use of samples.
ReplyFebruary 5, 2023 at 9:30 pm #1205293243Well, this year, just like last year happened without the BRP. Taylor’s and Adele’s wins in AOTY were under that committee that decided the nominees. Perhaps, they’re not that much of grammy darlings if it wasn’t for the BRP.
ReplyFebruary 5, 2023 at 9:23 pm #1205293206The Recording Academy has a truly deep dislike for R&B/Hip Hop artists. I guess those rumours of most of them thinking those genres are not music are pretty much true.
ReplyFebruary 5, 2023 at 9:19 pm #1205293178Well, the Best Engineered Album nom and win is definitely important, which makes you think how near was “Love on Sale” from “We Are” last year.
