I just finished The Righteous Gemstones, and I have to say it was fucking phenomenal. I was so pleasantly surprised by not only the hilarity, but also the great depth of character and heart at work. I don’t know if it could end up a player in the race or not, but I think it would definitely deserve consideration for these categories:
-Lead Actor: Danny McBride
-Supporting Actor: Walton Goggins
-Supporting Actor: John Goodman
-Supporting Actress: Cassidy Freeman
-Supporting Actress: Edi Patterson
-Guest Actor: Dermot Mulroney
-Guest Actress: Mary Hollis Inboden
-Guest Actress: Jennifer Nettles
I’d even support wins for Goggins, Patterson, and Nettles.
The show could have easily been a one-and-done, but I am definitely looking forward to spending time in the surprisingly affecting world McBride and Co. have built and where they decide to take it in season 2. Definitely did not expect to like it this much.
Here’s hoping it can catch on and surprise, I guess.June 19, 2019 at 10:17 am #1202944366
I can’t remember from past years, are the writing and directing categories going to be added soon? Or not until after nominations?May 20, 2019 at 9:23 am #1202901383
I just caught up with The Other Two and definitely like it a lot. But why did they put Wanda Sykes and Richard Kind in supporting?? They’re definitely eligible for guest; IMDb has them both credited in 4/10 episodes.May 2, 2019 at 11:34 am #1202877233

Actually I read her comment as her implying that Tyrion has feelings for Dany? Missendei obviously read it differently but Tyrion’s reaction and the fact that they were specifically talking about a romantic relationship prior to Sansa mentioning Dany framed it as a romantic rather than a political issue. The show has hinted at Tyrion’s feelings before so I thought this was Sansa picking up on it.
I’m rewatching the ep right now, and just watched that scene. This is exactly how I interpreted it both times I’ve seen it.April 25, 2019 at 10:40 am #1202866381
And no Jeremy Allen White, which is ridiculous.April 24, 2019 at 10:57 am #1202864969
I just started rewatching from the beginning for the first time…and the amount of foreshadowing for the entire series is insane! My brain is short-circuiting. Every other minute I’m like “oh my god, that connects to something 5 years later!”April 19, 2019 at 11:52 pm #1202859610
I haven’t watched Succession yet. How is it? Who do you think is the best in the cast? There doesn’t seem to be a clear consensus. That’s why I’m struggling with predicting it for acting, other than James Cromwell in guest.April 19, 2019 at 11:08 pm #1202859592
She’s being submitted in lead, not supporting. She’s in lead in the predictions center.March 24, 2019 at 11:52 am #1202827867
I also just watched the first 2 eps of The Act. I think it’s pretty good so far, definitely soap opera-y, but the surprising highlight for me is definitely Joey King’s performance. I have generally not been a fan of her in the past, but I think she is phenomenal in this. I think I’m gonna have to change my predictions to add her. I have a hard time believing that she’ll be overlooked by voters that at least make it through the second episode. She blew me away in that bathroom scene especially. It’s obviously a super baity and showy role, but I still fully buy in to the performance choices she makes. She is definitely the main reason why I’m interested in watching the rest of the series now.March 22, 2019 at 9:35 am #1202825752
If you read the plot synopsis for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, it sounds like it revolves around Matthew Rhys’ journalist character profiling Tom Hanks’ Fred Rogers. Hence, why it seems Hanks will end up supporting and Rhys in lead. But it obviously remains to be seen.March 19, 2019 at 11:12 pm #1202822615
Yeah, their FYC site definitely has problems. I was just scrolling through it and it lists Sarah Bolger and Carla Baratta for Supporting ACTOR for Mayans MC lol.March 19, 2019 at 1:21 am #1202821529
The drama categories are a complete shit-show this year. We’ve spent lots of time fretting over Drama Actress and Supporting Actress, but the one I’m having the hardest time with right now is Supporting Actor. I feel confident that Dinklage, Coster-Waldau, and Banks are in. I think one of the two Homecoming men will get in, but not both if the lack of broad support for the show continues to the Emmys. Cannavale is the safer bet, as a past winner with the showier role.
For the last two slots, I have no clue. I really can’t envision Culkin or Macfadyen getting in. I haven’t seen Succession yet, admittedly, but I still can’t see any performances getting in. Also, something I have been thinking about lately: HBO has so much on their plate to campaign, including in this category, whereas Homecoming is really Amazon’s only contender here. Maybe they end up making a good push. I don’t know.
Back to the category though, I think that Robin Wright is the only hope for House of Cards, so no Michael Kelly. While I have Chrissy Metz sneaking back into her category, I don’t think Hartley makes it in.
I have no clue who to put. Part of me wants HBO to submit Liam Cunningham for Game of Thrones, in hopes that he actually has stuff to do. I can’t say why he’s the third GoT actor for me, but I have enjoyed his performance over the years. Pretty underrated.
