So how are the Globes actually working this year? Do you actually have to submit in order to get nominated? In which case no netflix films will get nominated (as they are strongly boycotting) and many others will choose to avoid them? Or will they just nominate who they want regardless. I know they are still going ahead with their own version of the awards but I just don’t know how it is going to work…

The other question with this is how it will work with screenings/ screeners. Will most members get into screenings regardless as members of the press or is there a chance they will miss late breaking films because they don’t get screeners/ screenings?

I guess the studio thing makes sense and I get that Pixar almost always gets a film in if they have one so I am not really arguing that Luca won’t get in… I guess I was just shocked to see it leading the odds when I thought it was generally agreed to be one of Pixar’s weaker original films (probably if you asked a large enough group of people to rank all of pixar’s original, non sequel films it would as a whole end up third from the bottom ahead of the good dinosaur and cars)… But yeah I get the point of Encanto and Raya competing for the same spot, that does make sense.

Can someone explain to me – since I genuinely don’t understand – why everyone thinks Luca is a sure bet and going all the way (even leading the odds right now) where Raya is a flop that probably won’t get in? They were both released on Disney+ during peak pandemic so box office isn’t important. Raya had better reviews (better Metacritic and RT scores), had an A cinemascore and by all indications both seemed to do well on Disney+

I just don’t understand the reasoning that seems implied everywhere that Raya was a flop that people don’t like and Luca wasn’t? Is it just because Raya was released in a few theatres and people chose to watch on Disney+ instead (even then it topped the box office and outperformed expectations but did badly because many cinemas weren’t open at that time) or is there something else going on here?

When those reviews dropped my immediate reaction was “okay I know actors can come back from bad reviews but these are so bad that surely she can’t win” … But now I still have her in my number 1 spot because if she doesn’t win who does? I’m sure Seyfried, Coleman and probably Burstyn will be nominated but they are very much mentioned in the second or third sentence when someone is praising their films. People won’t go out of their way to give them trophies for those performances… Especially since 2 of them already have Oscars and Seyfried will feel like a winner just for getting her first nomination… Ronan’s film sounds like it is too cold for the academy, everyone else – Yuh-Jung Youn, Bakalova, I guess Toni Collette etc are really going to be on the bubnle for the nomination so I don’t see any of them winning.

So until I’m proven otherwise I’m going to keep Close in number 1. If nothing else, with lack of competition voters may push her to the win simply because they love her and want her to have an Oscar… Despite this it must be said that even though academy members will undoubtedly like it more than critics, the reviews are so bad that it isn’t getting picture and it won’t be as easy for her as it would’ve been if the film was received at a level of say Jojo Rabbit or Bohemian Rhapsody (which were at the level Hillbilly would likely be at if the bad reviews were just because of politics as many people claim)

I mean apart from Mank (and maybe Promising Young Woman’s although that one looks like it could have been done on Canva) are there any posters on the level of these from last year yet?

I may be alone on this hill but my favourite poster this year is the Nomadland one. I love that is simple and uncluttered – it is clean, unique, interesting and unpretentious while getting the idea across which I like. But then I’m weird, I look at the list you included and I don’t love the OUATIH poster because it is a bit cluttered and generic to me. Even if it is a very well made versions of a generic cluttered poster. I’ve always thought the same thing about the LOTR posters even though people love them (and I do love the movies themselves). The Marriage Story ones I love. Even the Parasite poster, as clever and well designed as it is, has a bit much going on for my liking – though at least it has a single, obvious focal point.

The fact that both Supernova and The World to Come both have been acquired by the worst distributor possible for them 🙁

Oh damn! I didn’t realise it was Bleecker Street… Maybe that is it has been so out of the conversation despite the talent involved and early word that at least the acting is very awards worthy!

There have been over 280 posts in this topic so sorry if this has been discussed already but is there a reason why the actors from Supernova aren’t in the predictions centre (alternatively it could be that I’m being blind and just not seeing them). The movie has just screened at, I believe, the London Film Festival to very good reviews and in particular excellent reviews for the two actors (Tucci and Firth). I don’t know who is lead yet but I am wondering whether they could sneak their way in there when the film gets more widely seen. At the very least they seem like they should be in the top 40 so should be options to predict. It definitely has the feel if something that could connect with Oscars. It could definitely get a BAFTA push too.

Okay my final rundown! Firstly gotta say I love the outcome, I think Yvie is so deserving – she’s been my favourite since week 2 so you could say there is some bias but it made me happy to see her win.

I so much appreciated Yvie’s final lip sync, especially to that song she wasn’t overdoing the performance, instead she was just focusing on poise and relying on how beautifully that dress flows which is not her regular style. Showing that elegance within her weird style. Plus that head piece was just amazing! I love the blood and mirrors concept it was just stunning. She felt like more of a winner than Brooke who was pulling out too many moves and changes without actually focusing on a conherent performance (which is also what Silky did in the first lip sync). Not to take away too much from Brooke though – she is amazing but her first performance was better than her second.

I’m honestly sick of Queens needlessly going through outfit after outfit and wig after wig like Silky’s performance. It’s just been done too much! In saying that I did love Shuga’s runway look – the tearaway totally worked and told a great story there.

Also Aquaria looked AMAZING, I don’t always love her personality but she really can turn a look (Monet was pretty disappointing on the other hand). Nina was such an obvious choice for miss congeniality but that’s great for her, I do love how far she got in the show and that we really got the opportunity to see the whole package of Nina!

    Looks of the night:
Yvie’s finale lip sync, Shuga, Plastique, Scarlet, Aquaria.

So for interest I went through and computed a score for each finale Queen for the season computed by the sum of every week where bottom 2 = 0pts, other bottom = 1pt, safe = 2 pts, top = 3 pts, win = 4pts.

In the last episode Ru ordered the Queens but didn’t explicitly put them in top or bottom. I decided none were safe so Yvie wo
n, A’keria top, Silky low and obviously bottom 2. That is the order they were in so it was really just about deciding who is where – Yvie and the bottom 2 are obvious but the other 2 could’ve both been safe but I figured it’s best just not to categorise anyone as safe this last episode.

    Anyway with that in mind:
In first place is Brooke with 31
    Second Yvie with 30
    Third is A’keria with 27
Finally we have Silky in 26

If I were to say Silky, A’keria and Yvie were all safe this episode not much changed order wise it’s just a swap in the bottom 2:
    Brooke 31
    Yvie 28
    Silky 27
    A’keria 26

Looking at recent seasons this is pretty accurate – Tyra, Needles and Jinkx, Aquaria, Bianca and Violet were best on their tables.

Out of 10 seasons this missed 4 times and all of them the winner was in second place and there was only 1 point in it every time: Sasha was second after Shea, Bob was second to Kim Chi, Raja was second to Manila and Bebe was second to Nina.

I think this will hold true again and Brooke will win but Yvie has a small outside chance. She is within 1 pt so the rule that they have all been top 2 and that if 2nd wins they are within 1 pt of first holds if she wins. Let’s see how it goes!

Okay I’m a bit late here but better late than never I guess. Okay here goes.

I’m still #teamYvie so this made me so happy and after her struggles recently reminded me why I love her so much. She’s weird and brimming with personality but she can also absolutely turn a look. Ru didn’t declare a winner this episode but it’s kinda obvious that if she had it would’ve been Yvie so in the tables I’m gonna leave her with 2 wins = with A’keria and Silky and behind Brooke’s 3. Her lyrics were by far the best as was her look and her performance was super fun and polished!

As for the rest, well, I’ll start with looks. Category is best drag… Or whatever you still have in your closet drag judging by the runways. Vanjie’s look was good and it made sense but it wasn’t best drag it was a pretty dress and not much else. Brooke’s was decent but one of her lesser looks this season – she always looks great so just being pretty good means it’s not best drag. And it wasn’t very unique. Silky, okay, yeah this was great for her, which isn’t a big compliment
because really all I’m saying it was a finished, polished look. A very low bar to meet but that’s where Silky is at. A’keria looked like her regular pagent girl self, it’s not screaming “best” but it’s fine. It is very polished and pretty. Yvie was the only look that I was really amazed by.

In the challenge Vanjie deserved her bottom spot, you could tell she was in her head and it sucks because I love Vanjie but she didn’t turn it. Brooke on the other hand shows just how shitty the producers are sometimes – she turned it and had the most impressive choreography of all of them. Her lyrics weren’t very rappy but they were fun and made me laugh. I would’ve given her the win performance wise (second overall because of her look and lyrics) but she had to be in the bottom because of the narrative. Something I really hate about this show sometimes. A’keria was fine, kinda basic and she didn’t really have to do any moves and her lyrics were pretty forgettable but fine. Silky had all the same problems with polish she’s had the last few weeks in the challenge but the judges only kinda briefly mentioned it because they wanted a Brooke – Vanjie lip sync.

This week’s rankings: Yvie, Brooke, A’keria, Silky, Vanjie.

Well onto the finale. Honestly only Yvie and Brooke are, I believe, at the level of a finale. A’keria has kinda drifted by on pagenty good enough this entire time and Silky is not polished enough. But I don’t know who I would replace them with, Nina maybe? But her lip sync performance was really bad… I’d love to say Vanjie and she’d kill a finale lip sync but she’s just had too many chances. Anyway because the producers are so fond of themselves we will get an Yvie v Silky lipsync in the finale then the final lipsync will be Yvie v Brooke where they both survived in their last lipsync now there has to be a winner. I really do wish this show wasn’t so overproduced sometimes! Maybe this won’t be what happens and I’ll be surprised but I doubt it. I still think Brooke is most likely to win and I’d be happy with that, I really like both Brooke and Yvie, but I remain team Yvie. Let’s go.

Okay I have some things to say: If there ever was a reason for a double elimination this was it. Ru kept Silky because Ru likess Silky but shit if you can’t lip sync what sort of a drag queen are you? That’s the T

Everyone called those 2 in the bottom before the episode and it wasn’t close between them and the rest of the pack. Also why are we only now talking about Silky’s padding these last couple of weeks? It’s been off this whole season!

Okay Yvie was better than the critiques, Brooke was amazing, Vanjie should’ve won.

Let’s talk A’keria the looks were kinda basic but fine. However. Why did Ru say Honey’s makeup was good? She looked like she was in fucking blackface. The contouring and the eyeshadow made her look like they had painted her face black but that she had missed some patches and you could see her natural white skin beneath it all.

Rankings for this episode: Vanjie, Brooke Lynn, Yvie, A’keria, Nina, Silky. With actually a large gap between every one of them.

Yvie and Brooke are still my personal top 2, Vanjie 3 and A’keria 4. At this stage Brooke has won this easily, I don’t think anybody else can. If my top 4 are the top 4 that will be very strong! Silky shouldn’t have made it this far and honestly should’ve been eliminated this episode. I just don’t know what sure has to offer at this stage.

Next to go is Silky or Vanjie. Being realistic, they have been setting up an Yvie/Silky face off all season and if it happens Yvie can’t lose – she can actually lip sync, Silky can’t judging by this episode.

Let’s bring on the final 2 episodes! Or 3 or whatever it is.

I actually think Evie and Silky will go head to head next week in that lipsync …. they have been forshadwoing it all season and i cant imagine either one is going to get someone else into drag that well … They both do their style really well but im worried about how that trasnlates.

I’m actually excited to see Yvie put someone in drag. This is what she is good at and creating family resemblance should be easy for her because she has a really distinctive look – she hasn’t let is down with a single look so far (her misfires have all been because of improv skills) so I think she will be fine… Silky I do think will struggle (and Nina). I think Nina goes home, she just had her big moment so she’ll go home on a really good note that she can be proud of and it makes sense from a showrunner’s perspective because nobody expected her to win so it makes sense to remove her. I would kinda love to see her make the final but she won’t.

I’m actually fully prepared for Vanjie to win this challenge. She has the necessary skills to do so but I guess we shall see!

I don’t know what they’re doing with the top 5 episode, they probably won’t repeat the evil twin thing but another ball feels redundant.

I think they made the decision as of season 10 to move the ball earlier in the show so top 5 no longer has to be a ball. It could be anything at this stage, it would be a bit weird being another design challenge but I’d say it’ll be a looks type episode but with something more to it like in season 10. I guess we will find out next week!
