*Spoilers. Don’t read on unless you’ve seen the episode.*
Um, wow. Oh my god. Perhaps it’s terribly presumptuous of me to say this considering it’s January, but this might have just been my favorite episode of television so far this year. Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett were utterly brilliant. Excellent direction and score, and I don’t think I’ve seen such a tender, humanistic portrait of an older queer relationship on television since Severance (which I also quite enjoyed). I love how their relationship is displayed throughout periodic vignettes as time passes, but through the performances and writing, you can read between the lines and understand that their love was real and complex and even deeper than what we as the audience have been allowed to see. Their love grows and ages, just as they do. I don’t know, I’m rambling, but this was just a beautiful and remarkably well-produced episode and is not only already my favorite of the show (and I’m doubtful it’ll be topped), but one of my favorites of the year. Really a splendid watch.

January 24, 2023 at 6:45 am #1205262050BRIAN TYREE HENRY! Really lost hope at the eleventh hour of the awards season for him, so I’m pleasantly and overwhelmingly happy and surprised that we can call him an Oscar nominee.
Also, um, so…I guess it turns out that Hirsch/Dano was the Dench/Balfe this year instead (or at least the closest) lol?

January 19, 2023 at 3:26 pm #1205254291Tyler James Williams is mine so far. But I’m woefully bias because I grew up watching him in just about everything. But I just love his comedic beats and how much I see myself in his performance and characterization as an awkward and reserved Black man with niche interests (awards predicting being one of mine haha!). And his facial expressions to the camera are just consistently killer. Perfetti and Walter have also caught my eye way more in the best ways this season, especially since they’ve been given more to do and chew on. God this ensemble is just utterly flawless.

January 14, 2023 at 3:56 pm #1205243209Well, wait, as someone who’s not predicting Condon to win the Oscar anymore and probably won’t unless Bassett is snubbed, I do think Condon has a path, in fairness — if she wins the BAFTA. That said, I’d probably still predict Bassett even if she loses BAFTA.
