This fifth slot is causing a lot of hell.
February 8, 2021 at 10:56 am #1204031072Zendaya is over lol. This critics choice nom makes no difference. She’s not the kind of contender who gets a nomination with only the critics choice. Sidney Flannigan is ahead of her.
Respectfully because I actually am genuinely curious and want to make sure I’m predicting as accurately and intelligently as possible; how is Sidney Flanigan ahead of her when Zendaya made both the BAFTA and AACTA lists while Flanigan only received the latter? I also feel as though Zendaya might have more industry support and goodwill from Euphoria, as well? I’m interested to hear your thoughts.
February 7, 2021 at 3:46 pm #1204029161I don’t think Zendaya was limited here at all, I think she did amazing with the script she had. And I think she deserved the Emmy, as well. I don’t frankly fancy Jennifer Aniston much as an actor.

February 5, 2021 at 3:10 am #1204024433Malcolm & Marie is finally out, so I watched it. I quite liked it! Much more than I thought I would because of the reviews. I thought the screenplay was a little iffy and felt a lot like a play, but I loved the cinematography and the direction, and my favorite aspect was the performances. Zendaya really shines here and really amazes as Marie. She perfectly displays every emotion and you can feel the rage intensifying as you watch and how upset and betrayed she feels. I loved it. JDW overacts at times to me and has odd deliveries here and there, but I loved his chemistry with Zendaya. He has some great moments and I liked his performance a lot overall.
Again, due to these Globes and SAG snubs, their chances are pretty much dead. Which sucks because I personally believe they are nomination worthy. As for Zendaya specifically, like it was stated before on this forum, a BAFTA and CC nom could really help (the latter more likely), but I’m really losing confidence.
A precedent I can think of off the top of my head for making it to the Oscars without a SAG or Globe nomination is Florence Pugh last season, but that was for Supporting Actress while this is Lead and Florence Pugh was in a BP nominee that has a 95 on Rotten Tomatoes and a 91 on Metacritic, and received 6 nominations at the Oscars (while M&M will probably not receive any). Also, Pugh had more critic noms and was a BAFTA nominee beforehand. I’m sure Midsommar brought her partial goodwill, as well.
This year is like no other and I believe that it’s not completely impossible for Zendaya to gather the support needed to get that 5th slot, so I will keep her in mind as the season progresses, but I will not be putting her in my predictions for now.
February 4, 2021 at 10:16 pm #1204024152Genuine question because I am changing my predictions again for the Oscars and would love some second opinions;
Is it delusional to put Yeun in the 5th slot? I find that since the SAG Awards are peer-nominated and the Globe picks are identical (save for Rahim), I feel that Yeun has a better shot than Rahim. I’m still waiting for the CC noms and the BAFTA noms (where Rahim could definitely show up), but I’m really leaning towards Yeun since SAG is the somewhat better barometer for this race. I feel like the Minari snub at the Globes could perhaps influence voters? And I’m kind of optimistic that the AMPAS will be open to nominating more Asian actors this year.
I would say Lindo could sneak in, too, but my faith is wavering due to his SAG and Globe snub, along with the complete D5B snub at the Globes. Of course, this doesn’t mean he can’t show up on nomination morning, but I’m becoming increasingly less confident.
SAG has been so good to Minari and I hope the love continues; I’m interested in hearing everyone’s thoughts!

I thought Carey Mulligan was nothing really special in this awful “Promising Young Woman” movie… I think Vanessa Kirby gave the best performance out of all the nominees, I would love to see her win. I don’t mind Frances taking another Oscar home, Miss Viola Davis I simply find annoying, and would not particularly like to see her win again.

Joined February 5th; couldn’t even wait one hour to troll.February 4, 2021 at 6:21 pm #1204023746I guess Zendaya’s last prayer is a CC nom and anything could happen for the 5th slot with a year like this at the Oscars, but she’s looking DOA.
She’ll get her due this decade though, probably with the Ronnie Spector pic.
February 4, 2021 at 10:46 am #1204022199I got 107th and got all leading actresses correct again! So so happy.
ReplyFebruary 4, 2021 at 9:23 am #1204021645What did they rectify when they snubbed Lindo, Raci, Ellen and nominated Leto, Boseman and Adams haha.
They rectified the Minari and I May Destroy You snubs for me! I’m not denying that some of the choices they made here are horrible and tasteless, but SAG definitely satisfied my wishes more than the Globes yesterday is all!
ReplyFebruary 4, 2021 at 8:27 am #1204020850Thank goodness SAG rectified the nonsense from yesterday. So happy for Steven Yeun and Youn Yuh-jung!

February 3, 2021 at 10:41 am #1204018159I got 301st! I’m not sure if that’s good, but for my first year of predicting, I’m kinda proud! I’m also happy that I got all the Drama actresses correct!
