The thing about Condon’s performance is that it’s the only “serious” role among the nominees to a lot of voters. Chau is in a disliked film while Hsu, Curtis and Angela will split votes from those who don’t mind voting for action/comedy films. Those who do mind, which I believe is a significant proportion, will all vote for Condon.
The vote-splitting will work the opposite way for Yeoh and Quan. Yeoh is the only performance in an action/comedy while Cate, Andrea, Ana and Michelle are in more similar films and will split votes.

She brought so much life to the character. The audience hated her, then feared her, then laughed at her and yet she still managed to to make the character human at the end. If not Hsu, then a Jaime win would be very deserving!</p>
February 20, 2023 at 5:45 pm #1205311573EEAAO and Michelle’s performance is film history being made right in front of our eyes – the most innovative film in years that defines this very age in history. It’s the kind of film that will inspire a whole new generation of young film makers and breathe new life into this industry. It’s a shame the Oscars will decide to give a third Oscar to a role that is well-played but in the grand scheme of things will be forgotten as soon as this awards season is over. Nothing against Cate, but it is not the most exciting choice.
February 8, 2023 at 5:42 pm #1205297678I finally got to watch Banshees, and I gotta say I was severely underwhelmed. It wasn’t very funny, it wasn’t very moving. Can someone explain what has made so many people love this film, especially the actual story of it? It felt like two hours of people walking in and out of doors and discussing the same thing over and over again. The script tried so hard to be funny but was just really on the nose and straightforward. The characters and their motivations for doing anything felt very unnatural and too thought out to provoke any emotional reaction in me. I guess you’d only enjoy this film if you’re really into observing acting performances. I expected highly of it and will be surprised if it wins anything.
February 5, 2023 at 8:48 pm #1205292788Completely soulless album that almost sounds AI’ed. Worst AOTY winner in ages.
February 5, 2023 at 7:18 pm #1205291226Harry, Bey, Brandi and Kendrick could all win AOTY. Adele is next in line.

January 14, 2023 at 2:05 am #1205242282Oh, we handled it. It’s just not that WOW factor y’all really think it is without the Asian cast. That’s the truth.
”The movie would be less great without the entire cast and one of the main themes”
Well, obviously.
ReplyJanuary 13, 2023 at 4:12 pm #1205241821Is Kendrick competitive? With the Grammys diversifying their voters as of last year (which I believe made it possible for Batiste to win), and Kendrick being the only rap album in the category, I feel like he is likely to get a lot of #1 votes.

December 5, 2022 at 11:56 am #1205179106NME Songs of the Year #1 Cuff It #3 As It Was #17 Anti Hero Harry Styles – ‘As It Was’ It’s hard not to tumble into the vast emotional depths of ‘As It Was’ and look beyond everything else that made this song such a triumph. Change is a constant beneath the track’s heart-raising BPM and twinkling melodies: here, Harry Styles’ empathetic songwriting saw him fight for stability amid breakups and personal upheavals, finding strength in a renewed relationship with himself. It’s a quietly beautiful thing, then, that it became his biggest hit to date, proving that opening yourself up to the world doesn’t always have to be a risk. SW Best bit: So much of the feeling is in the instrumental: some peppy guitar lines, and the crescendo of tubular bells, less of a breakdown than the sound of a heart skipping a beat. (All Too Well nowhere in sight)
All Too Well was released in 2021
ReplyNovember 28, 2022 at 11:14 am #1205169206Anti-Hero has a great chance in SOTY and ROTY in my opinion. It’s a big smash, it has lyrics with vocabulary and substance (in the verses) and a timeless melody. Oh, and it starts with an “A”.
April 19, 2022 at 7:40 am #1204923554Thank you for this thorough analysis! Still hoping for it’s chances, but we’ll see
