Everything Is Love was #2 for 2019 ÷ was #2 for 2018 Lazaretto was #2 for 2015 The 20/20 Experience was #1 for 2014 All missed
If any one of those was going to make it, it should’ve been Lazaretto. Still can’t believe that underwhelming Pharrell album made it in over Jack White’s masterpiece.October 4, 2020 at 12:53 pm #1203759247
Absolutely. She was riveting in that film. I believed her every step of the way.September 24, 2020 at 4:49 pm #1203732700
I can tell there’s a lot of recency bias looking at this list.September 24, 2020 at 4:42 pm #1203732680
Pet Sounds should’ve been #1. What’s Going On(the album and the song) is a masterpiece, but Pet Sounds is more deserving of that spot. It’s just a legendary album.September 19, 2020 at 6:33 pm #1203718827

Nothing was stopping My Heart Will Go On for Record of the Year in 1999, but I suspect that Madonna’s Ray of Light was second.
Believe it or not, I read some analysis of the awards that year and Madonna was actually the frontrunner. Her song was a big hit and highly acclaimed, plus the fact that she had recently been in a hit movie and was already pretty much a music legend by that point. Too bad she didn’t win, the song is great and far better than the sappy, overly trite “My Heart Will Go On”.September 15, 2020 at 11:08 am #1203708232
I’m sorry, but “Ray Of Light” and “Iris” both would’ve made better ROTY winners in 1999 than “My Heart Will Go On”.September 15, 2020 at 10:18 am #1203708130
Pacino. Dude was simply brilliant.
