I have a theory (?) about why is Mirrorball SO underrated among fans. Its always placed in folkore’s bottom 5 among fans. I think the problem is the song placement in the album.
See, at the point Mirrorball appears (track 6) you come from an increscendo of emotional ballads. While the 1 is nostalgic and chill, you get an emotion packed feeling with Cardigan, then storytelling fun of TLGAD, and then comes the gut punch that is exile. By that point, the album has established itself as an emotional, sad, nostalgic album. You get the epic back and forth of exile and then, after its over and you still have your jaw on the floor, you get My tears ricochet, arguably a MORE emotional ballad, with a bigger gutpunch, an increscendo of intensity, anger and sadness.
And after that you get a dream pop song?? No, get it out of here! I need release! Not escapism! Release!
My theory is that probably August (nostalgia, catharsis) or This is me trying (self reflecting, emotional release) would have worked so much better as a transition from emotional intense ballads to the dream sound of Mirrorball.
So, if the track order would have been
Exile-MTR-August-This is me trying-Seven- AND THEN Mirrorball, the song would have been beloved from the beggining.February 25, 2021 at 9:01 am #1204060888
When no one is around, my dear
You’ll find me on my tallest tiptoes
Spinning in my highest heels, love
Shining just for you
I know they said the end is near
But I’m still on my tallest tiptoes
Spinning in my highest heels, love
Shining just for you
Any mirrorball fans out there?
Im the biggest Mirrorball fan, you wont find a bigger Mirrorball fan here, specially cause i used to hate that song.
I skipped it. I thought “why such a good album includes such a bad song?”. One day i accidentally listened to it (I was playing the whole album while doing the dishes, couldnt skip it) and i was BLOWN AWAY! The dreamy sound, the layered vocals, the atmosphere, the lyrics, the bridge!!! Omg, how could i be so stupid? That song is a masterpiece!! Now is top 2 in folklore (if it wasnt for This is me trying, it would be my favourite)
Anyways, Mirrorball is a masterpiece! So underrated! I get it, i used to underrated it too. But now i dont understand why. That song is dream-pop perfection.February 24, 2021 at 2:24 pm #1204059464
I’ll give my predictions cause why not:
ROTY: Dont start now/Savage remix
BPVP: Dont start now
BNA: Megan Thee Stallion
Producer of the year: Jack AntonoffFebruary 24, 2021 at 2:06 pm #1204059446
I dont even like Lana and Lorde and even I know they have more talent than Justin Timberlake. They are much more acclaimed by music critics, too. This overestimation of mediocre white men is kind of tiring, though.
To each his own, anyone can like whoever they want, but in no universe JT is more acclaimed than Lorde and Lana. And, like I said, i dont even listen to their music.February 24, 2021 at 10:47 am #1204059012
He is also a huge mysogynistic and class A d*ckhead. I doubt musical legend Taylor Swift would wanna collab with such a person.February 24, 2021 at 10:44 am #1204058993
What I really wish Taylor would do is write a song for a decent movie which could win or at least get nominated at Oscars. She needs to co write with someone who have been getting oscar noms like John legend , justin Timberlake or others. She is too good of a songwriter to not even have an oscar nom.
Not jxstin txmberlake please🤮February 23, 2021 at 10:09 am #1204056845

My biggest wish is to be able to sing my favourite song “This is me trying”. Its actually a pretty easy song to sing, in kinda a middle register, not many register changes, easy to follow, great lyrics…then it comes the “At least im trying” part and i completely ruin it😆, impossible for me to sing that part (too high) i sound like a screaming dolphin.February 22, 2021 at 8:31 pm #1204055566
Yes!! I’m a soprano so I find it really difficult to sing most of Taylor’s songs tbh. They’re mostly in the lower range. Taylor’s singing is actually kinda underrated… her songs don’t sound good on everyone, even if they’re decent singers. Her lower register is impressive.
I can decently pull off Dorothea and gold rush maybe. It’s a shame my favourite song, Coney Island is in the lowest possible register. I can barely sing it.
I have a really low tone and can sing in tune to low register singers, but I cant with Taylor. Her lower songs are kinda impossible to sing (coney island, happiness, i cant even sing cardigan on key) and in many songs she goes low and then high and changes register a lot…thats super hard. Her voice is really versatile.
I wish i could find a Taylor song i can decently sing cause i tried all folklore/evermore and can only passably sing cowboy like me and maybe long story shortFebruary 22, 2021 at 2:18 pm #1204055120
Does anyone here like to sing? I have a karaoke app and today I tried singing Taylor songs: i think the one that was “easier” to sing and i kinda pulled it off was “Cowboy like me”, lovely track.
I tried to sing happiness cause i have a low tone (was a contralto when i was in a chorus) and it was a disaster😆, i completely ruined it. Then i tried to sang “Tolerate it” (it goes low-high-low-high) and omg, it was awful.
I kinda nailed “This is me trying” until the “At least im trying” part, i sounded like a choking puppy.
Anyways, Taylor’s voice is amazing and a lot of her songs are really hard to sing. Her low tone is impressive.
Does anyone like to sing and would like to join the karaoke app? We can sing Taylor songs and ruin them all😆February 22, 2021 at 8:29 am #1204054314
This is me trying is such an amazing song. It calms my anxiety like nothing else.
What a masterpiece Folklore is. Such a nostalgic vibe, dreamy sound, gorgeous storytelling. Self-reflecting, sad, elegant and nostalgic. This album is full of emotion and grace. A testament in how to found beauty in the most uncertain times.
