Aunt Peg replied to the topic Was Anne Baxter a lead in All About Eve and how did that effect Best Actress? in the forum Movies 5 hours, 2 minutes ago
Anne was co-lead but Bette deserved that Oscar.
I’ve never seen the series. I do have the complete series on Blu Ray but haven’t gotten around to viewing it.
Will viewers of the film need to have seen the series or can this be viewed ‘cold’ so to speak.
You could be on to something there.
I’ve seen the film twice and it never crossed my mind but there are so many metaphors within the film. A second viewing also outlined to me how many hints Bong gives about so many things that play out later but during a first viewing I was so engrossed in the unfolding events that I didn’t pick a lot of…[Read more]
Director and original screenplay appear to be the only two places outside International film where Parasite may pick up nomination. What gives Bong a boost, aside from the fact that his film is excellent is that he has worked with a number of members of the Hollywood community
Sacha Baron Cohen
Mary Kay Place
So true. She is a wonderful actress who has for 40 years been an enduring talent across a variety of genre films. She also deserved Oscar consideration for Freaky Friday, Trading Places & A Fish Called Wanda but alas the Academy rarely acknowledges comedy performances.
And speaking of Jamie Lee Curtis does anyone know why she has never appeared…[Read more]

Actually a strong line-up of winners. Hunt was good but not Oscar worthy. Paltrow was fine but not Oscar worthy.

Actress Valentina Cortese, Oscar nominated for Day for Night:
Actor Freddie Jones (The Elephant Man, etc) also father of Toby Jones: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freddie_Jones
Ethan Hawke, First Reformed
Sally Hawkins, Happy-Go-Lucky (though personally I loath her performance and the film she did win all three major film critics awards as well as a Golden Globe and she should have been nominated)
Paul Giamanti, Sideways
Liam Neeson, Kinsey
Naomi Watts, Mulholland Drive
Bill Murray, Rushmore
Amy Adams, Arrival
A couple of people have mentioned the absence of Yalitza Aparicio. I think the reason she hasn’t been invited is because the Academy usually invites people who have had a number of credits behind them. As Aparicio only has one she will probably have to wait until she gets another few under her belt.
Streisand was probably a rare exception when…[Read more]
Parasite is my favourite (as in the film I have enjoyed the most), though I think The Nightingale is the best (but only just) though its a trip to hell that took me a couple of days to shake off.

Aunt Peg replied to the topic Had Kathleen Turner been nominated for Romancing the Stone in 1984 in the forum Movies 2 months ago
I don’t mean to derail the thread but I’ll never understand how Mia Farrow got overlooked for Broadway Danny Rose, The Purple Rose of Cairo & Alice. She was excellent in all her films with Woody Allen but they were all top shelf Oscar bait. I get why the wrongly snubbed her as great and deserving as she was for Rosemary’s Baby (strong year,…[Read more]
