I suppose that’s it. Other trilogies post the creation of the category: The second Hobbit didn’t get one, Spiderman 3 didn’t get one, neither did Transformers 2. Batman Begins only had cinematography. Matrix 2 didn’t get any nominations. And I think Revenge of the Sith was snubbed.February 17, 2020 at 11:58 am #1203349751
I think Netflix. They fucked up the Irishman’s campaign and allowed 1917 to come in and steal its place. Also, they gave Scorsese like 200 million dollars for this and couldn’t tell him “cut at least 30 minutes from this so we can also get what we want”, ‘cause you know a shorter Irishnan would’ve been better for everybody involved, including us.
I think Johansson being who she is and at the end of Avengers but before her own Black Widow movie but with JoJo and her second nom also on her side, she definitely could’ve won. But Netflix dropped the ball there or Hollywood told them “not her, not right now” and they obliged. Maybe they didn’t want to deal with whatever could’ve been written about Johansson and her previous comments had she been the frontrunner.
They also dropped Marriage Story hard and were happy with Laura Dern’s status doing all the work for them.
They were caught by surprise with the buzz/wins for Klaus and I Lost my Body near the end of the race.
They had 2 animated nominees and 2 or 3 documentaries on their platform and barely added a “Academy Award Nominee” banner to some (not all) of them. They didn’t promote then either before the nominations.
The Two Popes and Marriage Story disappeared from the lists and placements they had on the platform a few short weeks after they premiered. But those shitty Christmas films and To All the Boys style crap were always front and center.February 16, 2020 at 1:21 pm #1203348842
Roma could’ve been much better.February 15, 2020 at 7:25 pm #1203348146
Just finished the first part of season 6. Pretty good first half. You can tell they know the show is ending as the writing does seem tighter, like their planning something nice. Of course Wes is gonna show up, I don’t think that was ever in question. Whether it was a dream, hallucination, wishful thinking, flashforward, flashback, flashsideways or that crazy adult Christopher theory, Alfred Enoch was coming back this season and Wes being alive was always a possibility because this is that show.
I hope Asher is dead, only because somebody here has to die. But since this whole thing with Annalise dying and leaving is all a lie anyway, who knows.
But kudos on Wes “being alive”, they couldn’t have done anything better than that to bring people back for the final episodes.February 15, 2020 at 4:04 pm #1203348059
Very nice premiere episode. Very fun.
Although as I mentioned on the last page, it won’t be easy to get over the fact that people are so stupid Sandra and Rob are still on this show. At least they voted off Amber. But then they added the tokens or coins, that edge of extintion bullshit, more idols and all that crap. Why not make this a simple season?
As much as I like Natalie, she should’ve gone home to talk to her sister about how it feels to be voted off first. Not to some other “lonely” island where she can come back, give power, coins, tokens and who knows what other shitty plot they’re gonna try to pull off to make Sandra, Rob and Amber be on the show longer than they need to be.
The whole “shield” thing frustrates me. Everybody is a shield here anyway, so why save Rob and Sandra? I know they’re obviously the biggest shields, but they’re also great players and manipulators who can screw up the game for everybody. If I were playing I need them out immediately because I know one way or another I’m gonna regret it later when Sandra wins this show twice. Fastforward however many years later and now there’s 2 million dollars on the line, so this girl can’t end up with 4 million dollars and 3 wins. But she’ll try and people will let her.February 15, 2020 at 3:53 pm #1203348050
I can’t imagine any other scenario than Delvin being voted off for yet another old lady outfit, and this one didn’t even look like it was well made or fit her right. But yeah, Victoria made one of the worst things I’ve seen on the show. It was bad and very much avoidable. And then of course her attitude. But would’ve voted off Delvin too.
Geoffrey 100% deserved his win, everything looked perfect. I thought Nancy did a perfect job with the dye, she just needed a better top. Sergio, I don’t know. I liked it when I first saw it in the workroom and then on the runway, and the dye job was great, but when they made the model open the dress and the whole lemmon comment came up, it was like, yeah, this is Geoffrey’s win for sure, Sergio just made a simple dress that has some panels I can’t even see or care about, honestly.
Brittany did good, Marquise would’ve been on the bottom for the styling and look alone but other people did way worse, which is why they didn’t even consider him for the bottom because the other two were more than enough.
I also suppose Sergio, Brittany and Geoffrey are going to the final. With the final spot between Marquise and Victoria, ’cause no way in hell is anybody thinking Nancy’s going to the finale. We’ve seen this type of contestant many times before and we know they don’t make it.February 15, 2020 at 3:40 pm #1203348039
Is anyone watching Next in fashion ( its not that good and doesn’t warrant its own thread ) BUt i was wondering if anyone watched it , im on the lingerie episode , its fun but not as good as Project runway
Oh yes, Situation Workspace (Happy Endings joke). It’s…okay. I don’t get why this show decided to do the team/partner format when they must know how perfectly awful that turned out for Project Runway during Michelle’s season and it even went horrible for Drag Race, which might not have been popular back then, but it’s a running joke now, so a lot of people on this show must know how it went. What we get is a bunch of people compromising everything to please each other and lackluster outfits.
And then there’s the whole flowy, baggy situation which is the only style of design we got during many, many episodes. It’s like none of them has ever tailored a garment before. And sorry, but I can’t get over the whole deconstructing and constructing the set over and over again for no reason at all.
I do like Tan as a judge, don’t like Alexa that much. The designers don’t make quite a good cast either. I’m exactly on the episode where they’re separated. Let’s see how it goes after that.February 13, 2020 at 5:11 am #1203345336
Question: how many recent Oscar nominees and winners have also been up for Emmys at some point?
I’ll help you out with locked Olivia Colman. Then Patricia Arquette, Nicole Kidman, Sam Rockwell, Mahershala Ali, Laura Dern, Viola Davis and possibly Regina King. Wikipedia is your friend if you wanna search for more.February 12, 2020 at 9:45 pm #1203345070
Mortensen wins since voters cared so little about the others anyway by voting for Ali.
Then Ali obviously loses in lead.February 10, 2020 at 5:34 pm #1203342273
The good thing is that it’s up to her. Good or bad, she must be getting offers since Judy came out and the shock of “wait, what? she’s winning an Oscar too?” happened. My guess is that she’s firmly in control and will do whatever she wants whenever she wants. And that along with this Oscar win which we never would’ve imagined less than a year ago, is fucking cool.
Even something as horrible as What/If couldn’t fuck with her.February 10, 2020 at 1:06 pm #1203341973
For an awards show that had its 4 most important winners all locked up since October, they really did go all the way into making this an exciting ceremony until the end. I love when these presenters pause to say “Crash” “Parasite” or “why the fuck does this say Emma Stone – La La Land?”. Jane Fonda gave us all huge shock and it was so much fun to watch. We knew it could happen, but we’re not stupid enough to actually believe it until that envelope is opened. So happy for this and such a great result. I love stats and “rules” being broken. Although the SAG Ensemble rule actually made a huge comeback after they fucked with it the last 2 years.
That Editing loss for Parasite sealed the deal for me, it was just gonna get Foreign and Screenplay. I was so sure of it. Then Director happened and it was back to being excited.
It was a good show. Four of the five original songs were extremely boring and only Elton’s Elton-ness made his song seem entertaining. Don’t think it’s a good song by itself. That Into the Unknown number was as horrible as the song. And the random C listers presenting presenters was also ridiculous and looked forced in that certain area they were trying to cover.
Too bad the whole Kevin Hart thing seems to have hurt the Academy’s chances to get a yes from anybody to host. ‘Cause I know this whole no host thing is not their decision. The minute somebody says yes, we’ll get a host again. And you know that host will end up being Jimmy Kimmel again. Rudolph, Wiig (and Fey/Poehler) continue to show they can be the host we all need, even if their schticks can seem like they’re getting old sometimes.February 9, 2020 at 8:42 pm #1203340352
Insane. INSANE! This is amazing. Picture, Director, Screenplay, Roger, Eminem…my God.February 9, 2020 at 5:24 pm #1203337579
That was sweet. I would’ve voted for Pacino, but I did love Pitt (in a movie I didn’t like very much). And the speech was good, it was like Roberts, Bullock, Leo and people like that winning. It’s a superstars. Sometimes it’s just nice to see.
