Some of these are absolute reaches, but otherwise this is kinda disappointing of her.
This said, people need to realize once and for all that these type of things need to be blamed on the directors and creatives and not the popstars who most likely don’t even have an idea. Beyoncé is merely an actor on these videos. She was presented with a concept which she approved and I doubt she knew about the original video. If anything her mistake here was not being careful enough.
The biggest reach I’m seeing is people pretending or believing that Beyonce just shows up on set not knowing what’s about to happen. It’s especially funny (and a reach) when you consider this video was shot at the freaking Grand Canyon. Sure, she just came on set one day and said “wait, are we where we think we are?” Or “oh, what pretty red outfits you have there mr costume designer”.July 23, 2019 at 8:52 pm #1202993128
Well as always, these idiots and their click bait. And why are they doing this now? Anybody who is just as good as these people apparently are and had a movie released from August to December is not part of this decade?July 23, 2019 at 8:47 pm #1202993121
And that’s not shading Hunt and/or Paltrow. I like those wins.
Haven’t seen Lange.July 23, 2019 at 3:21 pm #1202992602
It looks like a good fun funny movie. The trailer makes it look like a Wes Anderson film.July 20, 2019 at 2:47 am #1202986286
A huge mess with amazing effects. A movie saving performance from Rogen and especially Eichner. Donald Glover sucked all the life out of Simba, you can’t even hear him in “Can You Feel…”. Beyonce submitted her list of demands. They surrendered. The end.July 20, 2019 at 1:41 am #1202986239
I need to pay full attention because right from the beginning Eliza Coupe shows up as basically, 100% Jane from Happy Endings. I turned it off and said “no, this needs to be saved for later. some other time.”July 19, 2019 at 6:27 am #1202984967
I’m very surprised they showed so much footage. I was pretty much convinced about what I wrote in my previous post. I suppose this is because of The Lion King? They just wanted to show as much as they could to one of the biggest audiences of the year?
I think I’ll just be optimistic and say the effects are not 100% done and they sort of rushed this out to be in front of the Lion King. The younger cats look, like others have said, The Cat in the Hat. It’s too much of that. Too much Garfield too. Or the Chipmunks. It looks like a joke sometimes. They look like Avatar characters but with really famous faces and questionable fur, so it doesn’t seem as “real” as one would like.
The older the cat, the better they look because of the hair/fur. Specially around the face (Dench and especially McKellen actually look good). The young cats look way too smooth and digital.
They’re either too skinny, not enough hair, breasts on the cats? Is this Batman and Robin? The eyes sometimes are way off. Sometimes they look like they’re floating (shadow issues?) instead of being actually there.
I’ve been watching Corridor Crew and their videos on Youtube about VFX and I can recognize some things they always talk about. So I’ll just assume the effects are not just there yet. I do hope they take on Cats on one of their videos.
One thing’s for sure. There’s a lot of passion and calmness and greatness in the way Betty Buckley and Barbra Streisand sing Memory. Hudson is OF COURSE, once again, screaming every line, and as usual just wants you to know she can hit high notes without really caring about how she’s hitting them. It’s classic Hudson. If they can hear you all the way in the back, then that’s enough.July 18, 2019 at 4:45 pm #1202984032
I need to take a minute. I don’t exactly know what to say.
Except: GET JENNIFER HUDSON IN THAT FUCKING STUDIO AGAIN! That sounded terrible.July 18, 2019 at 12:03 pm #1202983328
The thing about Lena Heady is that she is not undeniable. They could have reward her in the past, yet they didn’t. She’s not as iconic as Jon Hamm/Don Drapper, where they will feel so bad that she remains Emmyless. Cersei is more of a fan cult thing than TV critics. She can easily win just like she can easily lose. Christine Baranski kept getting snubbed for TGW, which was more acclaimed than Got as a prestige drama. They also did that to Christina Hendricks, Frances Conroy etc… this can’t be any different for Lena Heady.
While I do believe that GOT actually is a prestige drama (regardless of its other elements) and critics massively fell for it and Heady, there’s a lot of truth in the fact that the Emmys don’t really care about owing anybody anything. And people far more relevant and iconic went unrewarded. You mentioned very recent examples, but the Emmys are sooo like this that you can go back even further with Poehler, Carrel, Wilson, Moss, Hendricks, Bracco (with some amazing tapes). Or go way way way back to Newhart and some of his cast members, and others like Goodman, Alexander, Lansbury and many many more.
There’s more than enough precedent for Heady to lose. In fact, in a situation like this, I think the real easy bet is for her to lose, not win.July 17, 2019 at 7:30 pm #1202982189
Trailer? You know we’re gonna get a bunch of sets and title cards (they’re gonna take their time with the actors) while Jennifer Hudson sings Memory or maybe not even that, and before “Christmas 2019” comes up you get like a cat from behind or something and that’s it.
I saw the BTS video because I’m obsessed with this film and what the fuck it’s gonna look like. And I must say that the video did give me some hope.
It’s funny that the “trailer” debuts on the same day that other film with a questionable look comes out.July 16, 2019 at 12:39 pm #1202979140
So Emilia Clarke is the one person from Game of Thrones they decided to snub, while nominating everybody else? Okay.
Took me a while to realize what a flop Bodyguard was with the Academy.July 16, 2019 at 12:20 pm #1202979040
So somebody over at RuPaul made Michelle Visage a producer. I think that’s cool. I don’t really want the show to win for this terrible 11th season (and obviously it will, so will Ru as host), but I’ll be glad if it does to see Visage with her very much deserved Emmy. She was also made a producer of All Stars this past season.
This will be the first year after 16 consecutive nominations that “The Amazing Race” will not be nominated, as it is taking an extended hiatus and will not qualify for 2019 Emmy eligibility.
Even though the Goldderby article says May 22nd, apparently it debuted in April. With only 4 episodes airing after the cutoff date.
Wait a minute. Beyonce, from Destiny’s Child and Beyonce, actually, seriously, really, you’re not fucking kidding me right now with this, got a WRITING nomination BY HERSELF? Is this true? Did she finally write something on her own?
What the fuck is going on this year? How many more things am I gonna find on that nominations list?July 16, 2019 at 12:09 pm #1202978983
So wait, Abby and Ilana finally get a nomination for Broad City…wait, no. So, Broad City gets its first Emmy nominations ever and it’s because of a short or something they did? COME ON!
How many different people got nominated for Fleabag?
Fuck the Emmys for snubbing Tituss Burgess by the way. Fuck them.
I don’t think anybody should win top Emmys for this season of RuPaul, so imagine seeing Poehler and Offerman take this while the Academy lets Poehler know once again, that she will not win Emmys by herself.
Kristen Bell is never gonna get an Emmy nomination. Let’s just deal with that and get it over with. (Or is she at least a producer on The Good Place?)July 16, 2019 at 11:56 am #1202978933
I haven’t gone through the entire list, but come on, there are some AMAZING nominations there. According to the TV Academy I should just watch the same shows over and over again, it’s nice to see things like Fleebag, The Good Place, Russian Doll and especially Schitt’s Creek. What the fuck is up with those nominations? When did the Emmys decide to listen to everybody else? Schitt’s Creek, Levy and Ohara??? Did that seriously happen?
We knew the drama side was gonna get a huge shake up, but some of these comedy nominations are pretty great.
