Love For Sale is going to be an I Can’t Breathe situation where on paper it has zero cross-genre appeal but ends up getting votes from every genre because of the narrative. I saw a few non-pop/jazz voters on twitter say how impressed they were that Tony was still able to sing at 95. Billie is easily getting the most amount of rock votes but considering how the rock nominees are almost all legacy acts, I would not be surprised at all if Tony is able to collect a few votes from there.
I think the same thing about Drivers License in ROTY and SOTY the hit of the year narrative should always be taken into account, although you’re underestimating one of the most adopted narratives by Grammy’s successful young songwriter girl.
but I agree with you about Tony&Gaga they have the strength to have jazz, pop and producers along with them plus a few other voters from all genres.February 2, 2022 at 10:24 am #1204766381Adele 6/6
January 25, 2022 at 1:57 pm #1204748777a) We Are Young and Royals both lost ROTY so they clearly weren’t undeniable b) what the fuck is the comparison here? none of these songs were against a dying legend. c) If there is an Uptown Funk in this years lineup, it’s not drivers license. It’s, you know, THE BRUNO MARS SONG
very big songs that invaded the collective consciousness, won awards without a strong narrative behind a big name
Also, what respect did Bruno have at the academy before UF? a best pop vocal album? pls.. he was still not your “THE BRUNO MARS”
January 25, 2022 at 1:13 pm #1204748698I understand Tony’s bounty narrative, but I think Drivers License was big enough to pull that into it, it’s like Uptown Funk, This Is America, Somebody That I Used To Know, Need You Now, We Are Young, Royals etc.
January 25, 2022 at 2:26 am #1204747823“Easy On Me” could be one of the longest lasting number ones ever. I definitely think it’s not leaving that spot for awhile.
Adele could have the longest #1 solo in history, she just needs to promote a little more.
January 24, 2022 at 11:27 am #1204746921#EasyOnMe 10 weeks at #1:
• she will be the only female artist with 2 solo songs of 10 weeks or more at #1
• only overall artist with 1 song solo with 10 week at #1 for two decades
• Adele ties with Elton John as the British solo artists with the most weeks at #1 on the Hot100. 34 weeks at #1
Every artist in history with multiple 10-week No. 1 SOLO songs:
Boyz II Men (2) – 90s
Drake (2) – 10s
Adele (2) – 10s & 20s — #Adele is the first woman, first non-american to achieve this.January 24, 2022 at 9:42 am #1204746730Not people debating whether Kendrick or Beyoncé will be the black artist to win AOTY this decade when if it happens it’s probably going to be H.E.R.
if HER gets a strong radio hit maybe a #1 on an album, she’ll probably be sweeping.
January 24, 2022 at 9:39 am #1204746726There are better acts who never won AOTY (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, NWA, Queen, Nirvana…)
lemonade and kendrick’s 3 albums are better than anything the queen has ever thought of doing.
January 24, 2022 at 5:51 am #1204746382Olivia’s not a lock to win both Pop categories. The performance and album categories more than often split, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there are a bunch of splits in performance. I have “Right on Time” winning there. Olivia takes Pop Album.
21, 25 and Divide achieved this after merging the male and female categories. I don’t think it’s going to be difficult for SOUR considering it’s the biggest female pop album since 1989.
but i have ROT in 2nd too
January 23, 2022 at 7:52 am #1204745177I’ll leave something here. SOUR was a highly acclaimed album by critics, it was #4 on metacritic and #5 on AOTY. but the point I want to make is that Good 4 U was the #3 most acclaimed song of the year on AOTY, DL #15, and Deja Vu and Brutal entered the top 50 as well.ok but what i mean is that Good 4 U and Brutal have had a lot of acceptance by critics, Olivia’s pop-rock forays are being loved and this could bring in a lot more faithful rock support than you might be expecting.
January 23, 2022 at 7:15 am #1204745142@oliviarodrigo got SO many of my votes for the @RecordingAcad awards in the pop categories this year (spoiler). IMHO no other new artist has made a comparable impact this past year.

January 20, 2022 at 4:56 am #1204739836Billie will not win BPVA. She’s lost BPSP twice already, and in one of those occasions she sweeped her other noms so pop specifically isn’t feeling her. Plus how many people have managed to win BPVA twice? I genuinely can’t think of any right now except Adele and Adele is an outlier. It’s clearly very hard to pull that off and I don’t think Billie can do it with an album that’s considered a step down from her debut. Her best chance is in the general field.
only Adele and Kelly Clarkson. 21 & 25, Breakaway & Stronger.
January 5, 2022 at 7:31 pm #1204699436guys how do grammy rules work for re recordings? Taylor has said before that he wouldn’t submit Fearless’s re-records, but I believe that’s because
1. Fearless already has Grammys
2. It was Evermore’s year.
but now that she has no new albums and All Too Well was a cultural moment and original Red has no Grammys. how can Taylor submit re-records without breaking the rules?
I thought these might be your submissions. does it break rules?
SOTY: Nothing New
ROTY: All To Well 10 min
Pop Solo: All Too Well 10 min
Pop Duo: Nothing New
Country Solo: Better Man
Country Duo: IBYTAM
Music Video: All Too Well filmJanuary 3, 2022 at 7:39 pm #1204695398This. The only time I believe she was truly robbed was “California Gurls” losing Pop Collab to Herbie Hancock’s “Imagine” cover
