if anyone from the edm world is making it through it’s fred again.. (if eligible). i can see kelela surprisingly getting nominated as well, got that cross-genre appeal yk.
Raven failed to chart in the Billboard 200. Kelela is not happening unfortunately.
ReplyJune 2, 2023 at 4:10 pm #1205450562Bob Dylan released today. Keep an eye out for him in American Roots and Rock.
ReplyJune 2, 2023 at 4:00 pm #1205450546Sabrina Carpenter is still eligible right? She’s having a quiet a good year, radio hit, big late night and televised slots, her own hit tour and now opening for one of the top tours of the year
She submitted her last two albums for consideration but didn’t submit herself in BNA on neither occasion. She probably hasn’t been eligible since her Disney Channel days.
ReplyJune 1, 2023 at 3:59 pm #1205449571It’s true Florence + The machine and Fiona Apple had two critically acclaimed albums with higher score and were snubbed
No shade at Florence, but I don’t really think their cases are comparable at all. lol
Fiona was blocked by the BRP in 2021 with one of the most universally acclaimed albums of the century. Like top 5 tier.
Florence’s most recent album couldn’t even get nominated in her own field. She likely placed 6th/7th, considering that she did manage to sneak into Alternative Performance. But Dance Fever just received mostly favorable reviews. Everyone gets 80+ on Metacritic these days.
And there’s also their ballot placements. Fiona Apple is one of the first names in any ballot. Her being snubbed was a shock, specially in a year where the 6th place for Best Alternative Music Album (HAIM) placed within the top 20 for AOTY. Brittany Howard was even more obviously blocked by the BRP too.
Florence was never competitive against the A-list fest that was AOTY in 2023.
ReplyJune 1, 2023 at 1:38 pm #1205449440Bailey Zimmerman missed BNA last year and his name is in the bottom of the ballot, just like Morgan Wallen, who certainly won’t happen in AOTY & ROTY. Maybe SOTY, but fortunately enough he’s not a credited songwriter in “Last Night”, so he would remain 0/0.
The demographic that votes at the Grammys despises that side of Nashville.
edit: I was at the other page I didn’t realize someone had already pointed that out. haha
but RE that topic, I wouldn’t be surprised if Last Night won Best Country Song. Last year, Til You Can’t won and Cody Johnson has never even been nominated. In 2017, a Tim McGraw song won even though he wasn’t nominated for Country Solo Performance that year.
With no one like Kacey Musgraves or Chris Stapleton to obliterate everyone else, the Country field is shaping up to be very weak. Morgan Wallen could finally sneak. He won’t win unless all the Country voters who were somewhere on Jan 6 2021 join forces just for him.
ReplyJune 1, 2023 at 2:26 am #1205448979Honey, while I think Foo Fighters are happening in Album of the Year, I can see them getting snubbed there. Metacritic scores do NOT mean a damn thing.
They certainly have more crossover appeal than all the vote-splitting popstars. If they even manage to be nominated, they’ll win.

ReplyMay 31, 2023 at 1:02 pm #1205446543Speaking of Tanya Tucker. In Hindsight, it’s funny how people immediately assumed that Bring My Flowers Now and Hard Place were the songs that replaced Beautiful People and thank u, next in SOTY.
Those were obviously Norman fucking Rockwell and Someone You Loved. Or maybe even Lover.
Anyways, Brandy Clark making it to AOTY & ROTY without a single win would be so funny. With a ballot placement identical to Brandi Carlile, she absolutely can. idk about SOTY though since she could submit a song placed in Y like her namesake.
ReplyMay 31, 2023 at 12:57 pm #1205446539bonnie’s case is different, it’s the fact that she has a meaningful song, and the only song that would’ve stolen the americana and country votes from “just like that” is “you and me on the rock” by carlile, which is placed at the very end of the soty ballot. therefore only the former got nominated and eventually, won. anyways, as gucci said, tanya isn’t getting an aoty nom, but she has the soty and roty nominations on lock.
if Tanya Tucker isn’t happening in AOTY, she isn’t happening in ROTY either. the ballot placement is the same. Bring My Flowers now was nominated because it begins with a B.
ReplyMay 25, 2023 at 4:49 pm #1205441459How are Soundtracks listed in the ballot? By title or under “Various Artists”?
Cause “Barbie The Album” would have a ballot position as good as “Black Panther”.
I’m not saying it’s going to be nominated, it’s a genuine question that may also explain why the “A Star is Born” OST was not nominated for AOTY despite being heavily predicted.
ReplyMay 24, 2023 at 1:11 pm #1205440022It all depends on how Karma Remix does this summer. If it’s a smash do you really think she’ll pass on submitting her collab with the biggest pop star in the world? Besides couldn’t they just move TBAL to Rap Sung?
Rap/Sung doesn’t exist anymore and Boy’s a Liar belongs in Pop. Ice Spice’s verse is too short and the production is 100% Pop field.
Back in the day the Rap screening committee allowed frauds and automatically placed any collaboration between a black popstar and a rapper in Rap/Sung Collaboration, but not anymore. Specially now that the category also rewards Melodic Rap recordings without any singers credited.
Plus, PinkPantheress’ label is not going to not submit that song just because of Taylor Swift also collaborating with Ice Spice.
And even Taylor will finally a new version of Snow at the Beach that won’t feel out of place in Pop Duo/Group Performance.
ReplyMay 23, 2023 at 11:23 am #1205438775Kylie Minogue’s “Padam Padam” could become a viral hit. I see it being submitted in Dance.
I’d be surprised if they still let Kylie into the Dance field after all these years. She used to pull those Dance nominations back when it was part of the Pop field.
I think the NARAS just made an exception for Beyoncé because her team worked hard behind the scenes and the screening committee dreaded the idea of David Guetta & Bebe Rexha’s song winning a Grammy.
ReplyMay 23, 2023 at 11:17 am #1205438763If Justin Bieber can win a Grammy, I really don’t see why Selena can’t.
Skrillex & Diplo and Dan + Shay won those Grammys in spite of Justin Bieber. His name is easy to name-check during the first voting round, but voters never passionately vote for him during the second voting round.
ReplyMay 23, 2023 at 11:12 am #1205438751The fact that “Anti-Hero” might be her first SOTY win (before y’all jump me I’m highlighting might because it is objectively top 3 at the moment and certainly big enough to win) is something so disgusting to me. It will literally be her worst song to be nominated for the award. I can’t.
Shake It Off included, because that one seemed like a deserving winner in that abysmal 2015 lineup
ReplyMay 19, 2023 at 7:54 pm #1205433500Beyoncé cannot submit since Renaissance already won Best Dance/Electronic Album.
AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM REMIX is not part of Renaissance. Therefore, it can be submitted. Just in Performance categories though.
