“A quick glance at the WGA ballot tells me MANK, NOMADLAND, MINARI, THE FATHER, PIECES OF A WOMAN and of course animated films like SOUL are not eligible this year.”January 24, 2021 at 3:57 pm #1203999547PGA, DGA and WGA have digital screeners for Judas and the Black Messiah (and them being digital only is another thing, but I digress), but not SAG.

July 16, 2020 at 5:06 pm #1203588486They can’t vote for it if it’s ineligible. Disney can push it if they want but they’d need a rule change first. The Playlist spoke to someone from The Academy who confirmed it’s ineligible. The rule states ‘works that are essentially promotional or instructional are not eligible, nor are works that are essentially unfiltered records of performances.’ So yeah it’s ineligible without a rule change whether Disney like it or not.
There's no point fighting it unless Disney really wants to, which i doubt they will, but even with that 1997 rule addition to the documentary category specifically, it seems a little absurd to just start enforcing that now.

March 31, 2020 at 12:23 pm #1203403189Maybe I’ll have to go back and rewatch it, but I remembered when I first watched it, I knew she and Nicholson were nominated, but not here category, so I just assumed she was up for Supporting Actress. Maybe she’s a lead, but I’m pretty sure that Nicholson was in every single scene, which she was most definitely not. If she’s a lead, then she’s very, very, very secondary to him.
