Respect looks like a chore to sit through. I just see Hudson and 0 Aretha in every clip that has been previewed.August 1, 2021 at 6:11 am #1204374821
630,000 likes and 4 million views for Gaga’s accent work. It’s been interesting to see the contrast in reactions of the same 50 AW posters to basically everyone else on the internet.
What will this need to be classified as a domestic box office hit in this climate? 75 million?July 31, 2021 at 8:19 am #1204373297
One to three seem like locks to me if the movies get decent reviews. Both Hudson and Gaga know how to campaign and I think their movies are enough to be kept in the conversation through nominations, even if they are middle of the road from critics. McDormand will always automatically get in the conversation. I would put Comer in the last spot if I had to, but I still am not sold on TLD as a movie and don’t think it will have the same lasting conversation that Respect or Gucci might have.July 29, 2021 at 6:52 pm #1204371029
Honestly, between Gaga and Comer’s performances in the trailers, I preferred Gaga and that isn’t something I thought I would be saying.July 6, 2021 at 4:17 pm #1204331775
I have said before that I think Annette is Adam’s best shot to oscars. Gucci has major flop risk and his character in TLD is too horrific to see it take him to a win (unless they reward Jodie as well). He’s surely the front runner for Cannes best actor (and given divisive nature of Carax the win there seems more likely than for the film or directing). And that could be the Antonio Banderas Pain and Glory path to a best actor Oscar nom. Potentially also the GG musical/comedy win.
If Annette is Driver’s best shot, then he is not getting nominated. It will be forgotten after this week.May 31, 2021 at 12:14 pm #1204280506
No I think it’s just someone who claims she had it sent to her. It’s not something we’ve seen from Scott before but it’s a great shout in terms of the story. Patrizia is a fantastically unreliable narrator, even now, and that could work really really well for this. Provided Gaga nails the accent!
Gaga has been given all the tools for a nom. Interesting story, good release date, good on screen partner, good production design, good costuming, apparently a good script, etc. Gaga’s accent will either seal or kill her chances.May 31, 2021 at 9:34 am #1204280264
Agree that Canterbury Glass is likely to come out this year. I’m surprised they were able to keep the Taylor Swift casting under wrap for so long, but I am assuming her role will be relatively minor.
In other news, apparently a version of the script for Gucci has been shared and the reader had a positive reaction to it and confirms Gaga’s character as a narrator who breaks the fourth wall. Gonna be quite a competitive year for best actor/actressMay 28, 2021 at 8:14 pm #1204277280
I must say, the costumes in Cruella are fantastic, definitely on my list for nominations for sure.
yes, but I have to laugh at myself for somehow thinking the Emmas could contend for acting nominations. Thankfully they save the movie from being razzie worthy.May 28, 2021 at 3:03 pm #1204276879
May We Start might have been able to get a nom in a filler year, but as someone already pointed out, song is already already very competitive.May 28, 2021 at 4:10 am #1204276119
I don’t see oscar voters, let alone the GP, wanting to sit through 2 hours of music like this / a movie entirely delivered in song.May 25, 2021 at 4:32 pm #1204272466
I would be shocked if Last Night in Soho had a 20 million opening weekend. I’m not convinced ATJ is that big of a box office draw.
