Solar Power for Best Recording Package omg who started this?
I’m all for it!
June 21, 2021 at 12:48 pm #1204311538Don’t exaggerate Olivia Rodrigo, she may get nominations and end-up empty handed, there are many questions marks when it comes to acts that are in their breakthrough year and their first round of Grammy noms.
Yeah the Grammys are unpredictable. At most, I think she’s going to get as many nominations as Billie Eilish, for WWAFA,WDWG.
June 21, 2021 at 12:37 pm #1204311503People are desperate to find an AOTY frontrunner. Silk Sonic feels like a logical choice. As much traction as Olivia has, I don’t see SOUR winning there. Billie isn’t really “it” right now either.
I hope Billie hasn’t reached the Best New Artist curse.
June 21, 2021 at 12:33 pm #1204311494I’m really interested in Polo G. His album just hit number one. I hope that he can get nominated for best new artist, best rap album, best rap performance, best rap song, and maybe record of the year. Savage (Remix) and Rockstar were both nominated for record of the year last year.
June 21, 2021 at 3:30 am #1204310768Honey, Celeste is NOT happening in any category. Too under-the-radar. Plus, no blue-ribbon and R&B committees.
I don’t know about this “blue-ribbon” bullshit they are doing. I feel like the Grammys could do whatever tf they want. If they wanted H.E.R. to win it all, they could. And I think they will cuz they got a hard-on for her.
But I agree with you. Celeste would be nominated at the BRIT awards fasho. But she didn’t achieve not much success in the USA. I don’t think they would nominate her for the Grammys for that reason. Rina Sawayama didn’t achieve much success in the USA despite her critically acclaimed album, and she wasn’t nominated. It usually takes time for the Grammys to open up to those people.June 21, 2021 at 3:13 am #1204310753My predictions, as of June 2021: Best Rap Album: 1. J. Cole – The Off-Season 2. DMX – Exodus 3. Tyler, The Creator – Call Me If You Get Lost 4. Kid Cudi – Man on the Moon III: The Chosen 5. Megan Thee Stallion – Good News 6. Big Sean – Detroit 2 Surprisingly, this category actually has a lot of competition already. I can definitely see J. Cole winning, although we have yet to hear Tyler’s album. Megan will be almost a lock for a nomination since she won 3 awards last year, but I can’t see Good News winning as the album itself wasn’t coherent enough. If Drake, Travis and Cardi drop their projects before the eligibility period ends, then that’ll really shake things up as I can’t imagine all 3 not being nominated. Plus if Kendrick does indeed drop before the eligibility period, then that’s a lock.
I agree with all of this except I think something like DJ Khaled’s album might score a nom over Kid Cudi
DJ Khaled’s album had bad acclaim, but with how weak this Grammy period is and how unpredictable the Grammys are, I wouldn’t be surprised if he got in.
Also I think a lot of Grammy voters are looking to Goldderby to help make their predictions, the more we could possibly say that J Cole could win, the more they might go for it.June 14, 2021 at 7:51 pm #1204300876Am I the only one who rooting for SAULT to be nominated especially in general field? Their two albums did extremely well on year-end lists, Untitled (Black Is) missed it but Untitled (Rise) eligible.
Look I agree with you. Maybe just get nominated for Best New Artist and Album of the Year.
They might pull an Esperanza Spalding.
SAULT might be the “Esperanza Spalding” of this year. I’m not really convinced that Olivia will win, but that’s my opinion. Maybe because her career is different from many others. Billie and Megan had a substantial career before their debut year. To me Olivia came out of nowhere… Singing on High School Musical.
June 11, 2021 at 6:47 pm #1204297107So no one’s going to mention how Marina just delivered her best written album yet? I know she’s not happening at the Grammys, but her new album is just incredibly well crafted.
That’s what the Grammy’s need to work on. Make another category for critically acclaimed, not so popular pop albums.
June 11, 2021 at 6:39 pm #1204297078Fantano is an asshole honestly. He knew Blue Weekend was a MASTERPIECE. He was just upset he got no pussy.
ReplyJune 11, 2021 at 6:36 pm #1204297071Thot Shit has to be nominated for music video and record of the year. The music video got sooo many meanings frfr. That WAP at the ending was the highlight. Period.
May 28, 2021 at 4:57 am #1204276152I’m not sure if this is a problem but they should’ve had eight nominations not only the general field but for every field.
ReplyMay 28, 2021 at 4:55 am #1204276150Depends. Last year was the exception, hasn’t been proven as a “rule” quite yet. J.Cole could reasonably be considered a “Vet” as he’s been mainstream for about 10 years now. Kendrick and Drake as well (though i’m not convinced Drake will submit his album this year) other than that, if there’s no Drake or Kendrick album by the cut off then what veteran could reasonably gain a nomination over Cardi B or Big Sean?
I agree… J. Cole hasn’t won rap album yet so I hope this album helps win it for him.
May 28, 2021 at 4:50 am #1204276143Giveon won’t be nominated. My predictions: 1. Olivia Rodrigo 2. Gabby Barrett 3. Saweetie 4. The Kid Laroi 5. Morgan Wallen 6. Arlo Parks 7. Polo G 8. Tate McRae
First of all, I would like to scratch Tate McRae out of my nominations because I don’t know her that well. And plus she only released an EP this year… If she released a full-blown album I would reconsider. Secondly, I know the Grammys will nominate someone in their mid-30s like they did with D Smoke and Yola. I don’t know who that will be. For me, the locks are Olivia Rodrigo, Morgan Wallen, The Kid Laroi (kind of like Post Malone and Lil Nas X, blurring lines of hip hop and other genres), Gabby Barrett (a young artist like they nominated for Noah Cyrus), and Polo G (his new album is coming out).
ReplyMay 28, 2021 at 4:42 am #1204276136Honey, as usual, Ariana Grande is being overestimated. Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album are NOT weak enough for her to win. She only wins against weak competition (see 2019 Best Pop Vocal Album nominees) or when collaborating with popular acts (see 2021 Best Pop Duo/Group Performance nominees).
What are your nominees for the Pop category then?
