yup, it’s known theyre reserved the right of few write-ins, like 2 or 3. I think Deborah Dugan denounced it as well.
tha’s how Bon Iver got two nominations last year. NO WAY that album made the top 20 and ABSOLUTELY no way that HEY, MA made the top 20 for record of the year. And I say that as a huge fanOctober 23, 2020 at 4:03 pm #1203799303
Elvis Costello on FTBC:
Fiona Apple – Fetch The Bolt Cutters
I heard more original music in the first five or six songs of this extraordinary record than I had in the last five or six years.
maybe he’s talking about the BRP meeting when they heard the first five tracks of the album 😀😀😀October 22, 2020 at 1:23 pm #1203796884
I think they blocked divide for the same reason they blocked Reputation. They just didn’t think the album was good enough. Some users really overthink stuff.October 19, 2020 at 9:25 pm #1203790371
i mean, we actually had some pop albums that got nominated without relying on huge hits. there’s some that come to mind that failed to score a top 10 hit:
- norman fucking rockwell!
- the blessed unrest
- chaos and creation in the backyard
- come away with me
- you’re the one
- the rhythm of the saints
I’m Not sure I would call some of those “pop” albumsOctober 19, 2020 at 8:53 pm #1203790340
idk about that, but Vampire Weeknd really has been overdue for Grammy love
I mean they’ve won Alt. Album twice and been nommed for AOTY. But I do believe that Harmony Hall deserved a SOTY nomination…I would take BAD GUY out of contention and put them in.October 19, 2020 at 8:46 pm #1203790328
LOL. But seriously father of the bride was one of the best nominations to come from the Grammys in ages
ETA: much like FTBC, FOTB was an album that pushed its genre to the limit. And that’s why it deserved not only the nom, but also the win.
ETAno.2: now that I think about it, HAIM’s new album might fit the bill and get the spot that FOTB got last year. An alternative, pop/rock album produced by indie darlings.October 19, 2020 at 8:42 pm #1203790323
One or more of the following popular acts are being underestimated and may land the nomination(s): Bad Bunny, YHLQMDLG BTS, Map of the Soul: 7 The Chicks, Gaslighter Chloe x Halle, Ungodly Hour Dua Lipa, Future Nostalgia Harry Styles, Fine Line Lady Gaga, Chromatica Megan Thee Stallion, Suga Post Malone, Hollywood’s Bleeding I could see a case where some of these contenders miss their respective fields but still manage to sneak in AOTY.
sadly I think Chromatica might make itOctober 19, 2020 at 7:20 pm #1203790214
Last year Goldderby users only correctly predicted 4 AOTY nominees and Father of The Bride was a “Dark Horse” with 68/1 odds.
That’s why I think the only 4 albums the users are correctly predicting are:
After Hours, Folklore, PEMFBAS & Fetch. The rest are wildcards.
Not to toot my own horn, because I will, but I always knew Father of the Bride would be nommed.October 19, 2020 at 7:12 pm #1203790187
I see all the reasons why Bob won’t be nominated and I dismiss them.
I still think he will make it.October 19, 2020 at 5:51 pm #1203790002
I’m predicting Bob. If they go for a diverse year this year and have some “inspired” picks, they may feel they’ve done enough and can nominate him. If you get what I’m trying to say.
Yeah my money’s on Bob Dylan, too. I’d say my AOTY lineup is almost set in stone:
Rough and Rowdy Ways
Fetch the Bolt Cutters
Please Excuse me for Being Antisocial
The HighwomenOctober 19, 2020 at 5:41 pm #1203789956
<p style=”text-align: center;”> ohh okay. I was just wondering then who could possible be a surprise nominee this time. Ofcourse there might not be any.</p>
For me, the true (and welcome) surprises were Bon Iver’s i,i and Lana’s NFR!. Those albums were not being predicted that much around these circles. That’s why I think Albums from Bob Dylan, Brittany Howard or even Perfume Genius stand a chance.
Scratch that. Not Brittany, because she’s being heavily predicted.October 19, 2020 at 5:37 pm #1203789933
Me too, I like her music, I hope she repeats in SOTY and ROTY tbh her collab with Daniel Caesar is also great, they won a grammy for it
Yup. And after her performance at the Grammys she showed she’s not for show. She’s a damn talented artist. In a way I see her as the new Alicia Keys, just with a little bit more of an edge.October 19, 2020 at 5:35 pm #1203789921
Were father of the bride and 7 expected nominees based on discussions in the forum last year ?
Father of the Bride, yes. 7, no. That’s what I think. Even when it came to the question of a 5-nominee lineup, Father of the Bride was still included. Ezra just did a ton of promo and he is well connected in the industry ever since he coupled with Rashida Jones. That, on top of his great Grammy history (he already had won a grammy for Alt. Album) and the masterpiece that FOTB was, was enough to have at least a lot of users here convinced here that they would get the nom.
Father of the bride-expected nominee
7-sort of a surprise
